Okay, so instead of the power/RBI coming from LF, let's get it from CF. Not a big deal, right? Rowand has proved to us this season he will hit for average AND do some serious slugging. Gload thrives in RBI situations though, here are this year's stats to date.
That's the point of starting Gload. I thought as a team we were trying to stray away from the 'power' lineup. We want to form a team with a higher batting average that's speedier on the basepaths. Gload provides those and his miniscule salary allows us to go after our main offseason goal as stated by KW himself: pitching.
I'm just saying his numbers for a guy who gets sporadic playing time are impressive. They just make you wonder what he could do with regular playing time.
He has an identical average and better on-base percentage than Ben Davis in more at-bats but no one is willing to give him a chance at starting, while everybody would jump at the chance to make Davis the permanent starter.
Gload is the best option we have for an everyday RF. Unless we pick somebody up in the offseason (which I don't think we will), he should start there next year.
I'm not saying replace in the sense that he should put up similar numbers to Magglio. I'm saying since Magglio probably won't be here next year, Gload in RF would be a feasable replacement. Defensive skills can be taught.
This guy has contributed greatly this year. He has been a complete surprise offensively. He's had some mishaps in the outfield but that's not his natural position. He's even hit lefties well this year, albeit in only 16 at-bats.
He seems to hit very well in clutch situations, including 6 for 9 with the bases loaded. He's currently hitting .291 with an on-base percentage of .331. 27 RBI's in only 150 at-bats? Not bad.
If he works on his defensive game intensively in the offseason, he's got my vote as Maggs' replacement in right field. A unit of Lee, Rowand, and Gload is very respectable and balenced. Not to mention cheap.
He had control problems and walked three men in the first inning. They all scored. Other than the first, he pitched very well. No more walks after he settled down. I hope he gets another start after finishing strong yesterday.
My main concern is Vizquel's age. If we are to rebuild the offense that Ozzie wants, let's start with young players. Vizquel may get 15-20 more hits per year than Uribe does, but Uribe has shown us loads of talent and we need to let him harness it as an everyday player.
The same goes for Willie. Crede I'm still unsure about. Rowand, Gload, Burke, and Davis are also good young talents. These are all perfect candidates to build our new offense around. With the relative cheapness of these players, KW can (hopefully ) get us one more stellar starting pitcher which would give the White Sox an amazing rotation.
The offensive production numbers between a 38-year old Vizquel and a 26-year old Uribe are trivial. With our tight budget, we need to spend that 3 million elsewhere (gap in starting rotation).
