  1. I found this on ESPN and I was wondering if this was valid: Albert Belle was the first player in baseball history to make more than $10 million in a single season for his "services" thanks to the generosity of the Chicago White Sox. But he wouldn't sign on the dotted line until the White Sox agreed to two special requests. One, a giant container of Halloween candy was to be delivered to his front porch every afternoon, where it was to be lit with a spotlight so children all across the neighborhood could see it. And two, Belle wanted a high-powered BB gun with a scope.
  2. Sorry, I had to post it... I found it on Gorillamask.net yesterday and I couldnt resist. I had my whole office in tears.
  3. http://withleather.com/post.phtml?pk=1796 The link is so funny about the german boy who destroyed his keyboard put into a Cubs theme!
  4. Could this small move Kenny spoke about on the conference call possibly be Sandy obtaining a position with the ballclub on a coaching level?
  5. YASNY, I said that my gut feeling is that Crede is full of s***. You dont hire and agent like Boras to give a hometown discount, to not have him negotiate for you, to market you. Boras is the king of marketing his players and a hell of a negotiator. The A-Rod to Crede was just an example of how some players say things but do the exact opposite. Sorry that I referenced A-Rod but it was the first thing that came to mind. The fact of the matter is taking a player's words for what the are worth.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 15, 2006 -> 04:12 PM) You may be right, but what happened with ARod has no bearing whatsoever on what will happen with Crede. None. YASNY, I do realize that ARod and Crede has no bearing whatsoever but I used the example of things players say, ie Joe saying his agent will not get in the way of him signing, that are completely disregarded when a issue of money comes up... hence why i referenced A-Rod and his comments prior to his FA signing. There are some players that would do it for the love of the game (Konerko taking a home town discount to stay with the sox) and their are some that are more intent on the money (Arod negating his comments and going with the most bang for the buck). Only time will tell what column Crede falls into. The thing with Baseball these days is that outside of the season players at times forget about loyalty and those that gave them a chance. Those that are typically loyal to their teams become the face of that team for years to come... people like Damon who WAS the face of the BoSox lost all respect when his agent lied to the Sox about other offers on the table, he also stated he would never play for the Yanks... he's wearing the pinstripes now. All I am saying is in this day and age it is difficult to take any players words for face value!
  7. In regards to Boras and Joe's comments about how he wont let his agent get in the way of re-signing. A-Rod (I have to reference) stated in the off-season prior to the '01 season that he wanted to go to a younger competitive team and money was not the issue (I can not find the exact quote) he came from Seattle who had won the wild card in 2000 and ended up winning the division in 2001. He chose the Rangers: because they were younger? Somewhat, their average age for 01 was 29.8... Seattle's was 31.1 which was after A-Rod left. Texas was a competitor? Hardly 4th in 2000 and still 4th in 2001. So, what was the main reason for the signing with texas? They offered him THE largest contract in Baseball. Do you really think A-Rod wanted to go to a Texas team that was not even thought of to be a competitor? Nah, he wanted the money and they had the best on the table! So when Crede says he wont let his agent get in the way of re-signing? I am going to go with my gut feeling and say that Crede is full of s***! Money talks so Crede walks!
  8. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 08:59 PM) Is someone really going to argue that there is a chance any MLB would go out of business? That there is a difference in working for the Reds, Padres, or Pirates? Every free agent should be crying they didn't accept any contract that St. Louis offered them if winning a World Series ring would be the #1 criteria. At what point did i argue that a MLB team may go out of business??????
  9. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 08:45 PM) But did you tell them to offer you less? That's the point. The company made you an offer. Would you have told them to pay you less so they could increase marketshare? Hire more/better employees? Make more corporate profits? The point is not if he did/didnt ask them to pay him less... the point is that he went with a company that he feels is an overall better company, able to fit his long/short term goals and gives him and his family the stability and room for growth vs taking a company just based on the money they offer.(fyi, i dont know him just assuming). I have been in this position many times in my career and have been burnt before. I left a good stable company for another company who offered me more money, that company went bankrupt within 1 year of my employment.
  10. Dont know the truth to this but I am going to revert to the jackass, jagoff, or whatever else we may want to call Boras. http://thebrushback.com/Archives/scottboras_full.htm
  11. Hell, I never said i didnt admire him... hes still a jagoff. I guess I am just bitter since I dont make millions playing a game i love.
  12. Either way Boras is a jagoff! From what I have been reading he is the reason there is stalling in the BoSox contract talks. He is looking to assist Matsuzaka in buying out his option with the Japan leauge and bring him to free agency (which the league has now shot down). If you want to point fingers on the rising price of FAs and players in general... he would be a good start! They play a game many of us played when we were younger, god how much i would love to have the talent they do to play a game for 162 games a year!
  13. This report was published by Kenny Williams. Expect a trade for Wells straight up for BA... Kenny faxed this over to the Jays yesterday
  14. Do we seriously have to have a whole thread open to this alone? This was already discussed in the JR talks. Seriously, I want to see if there is a picture back in 2005 when Mack was at the world series. He is a huge sox fan and was playing for the Pirates back then.... what if he had a hat on???/ Its unbelievable the negativity for this when it is just a hat of his childhood fav team! he's still in a sox jersey and on our roster!
  15. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) Spin, spin, spin. If you think about a trade long enough, you can convince yourself that it was actually great for your team. I dont post much but after spending more time on Soxtalk I have noticed that you have to be the most negative fan I have ever seen.
  16. I thought he was already locked until 2009? He was only making $430,000 per year
  17. You all think JR is cheap... I just found this on Gorillamask.net: Sued him for having the same name The Tribune Co. of Chicago, Ill. The newspaper chain owns several newspapers, as well as the Chicago Cubs baseball team. One of its newspaper carriers was Mark Guthrie, 43, of Connecticut. One of its ball players was Mark Guthrie, 38, of Illinois. The company's payroll department mixed the two up, putting the ballplayer's paycheck into the paper carrier's bank account. The carrier allowed them to take back 90 percent of the improperly paid salary, and said they could have the rest after they gave him a full accounting to ensure he not only got his own pay, but wouldn't have any tax problems for being paid $300,000(!) extra. The Tribune Co., rather than provide that reasonable assurance, instead sued him for the rest of the money.
  18. Actually they did send me an autographed picture of Southpaw... its on ebay but I am willing to let you negotiate a price for it with me for $51.1... then we can talk about how much you can have it for!
  19. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 02:43 PM) But you should show some respect for your current employers. I don't think the CEO of McDonald's would wear a Burger King shirt out to the mall on a Saturday even if, as a kid, he was a huge fan of flame-broiled goodness. This Cardinals stuff has been going on for a while. OK two completely different situations! Come on now, we are talking about fans of a game. f***, the Sox and Cards arent even in the same league!!!! What the hell does it matter its a damn hat, a hat!!! Hell, i would be willing to bet that Mark also has a Card jersey at home in his closet... im a life long sox fan, I have multiple jerseys, but I also have a Griffey Seattle jersey because I think Griffey is and was a great player.. does that mean I have to by Seattle season tickets too??? Hell, i collect hats from every ballpark i have visited, and have worn them... am i a sell out to the sox? NO! Its called a life long love for the game! Mark was born in MO, he has a love for the Cards is nothing wrong with that at all!
  20. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 04:48 AM) If he wants to wear a freaking Cardinals cap around, go play for 'em. I was unaware of the dress code for players outside the season. During the season Mark gets to the park every f***in day and puts on his WHITE SOX uniform (including a SOX hat) what the f*** does it matter what he wears when he is not at the stadium??????? If you all are so up tight about what a pitcher wears outside of the stadium you all got some serious issues. HELL, i could have sworn Ryan Howard of the Phillies was wearing a Cleveland Indians Replica jersey on Monday Night Football awhile back... it happend to be Jackie Robinson. Does that mean he should be immediately traded to Cleveland just because Robinson is an idol????
  21. QUOTE(That funky motion @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:52 PM) Yes. It says on the box "Thank You Premium seat ticket holders" I take it you have full seasons?
  22. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:46 PM) Again, where are we changing any pitchers by using the 10M to upgrade the OF? Garcia deal is done....now what do we do? Go get Zito ......is that what you are saying????? Not at all. Upgrade with speed and hitting not power.
  23. QUOTE(Sox It To Em @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) Source? XBox 360 ... it was sweet... all he had to do was give up Uribe and the Yanks were all over it!
  24. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:36 PM) I bet you pitching and bombing will do the same thing. As would pitching and running, pitching and defense, pitching and standing around laughing at the crowd. Correct... i should have just said pitching and "Balta please fill in whatever you please here"
  25. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) But he could hit 40 HRs too at the Cell .... if we are not going to be a grinding team, might as well slug our way to the playoffs. "And there we have it folks, after 12 SOLO home runs from the White Sox 3-4-5-6 hitters, the Dodger's have just won the world series 13-12." Pitching and Grinding got us the first ring... pitching and grinding will be the only thing that gets us more!
