  1. Yes I know. I never liked that downward pointing arrow from the get go. Now they stick it on the mound pointing to where HRs go.
  2. When I see someone laughing at this makes me wonder if you dont give yourself a lot of your likes, laughs etc. somehow . Especially when you make a big deal out of "Winning the Day "to show how respected you are here.
  3. Did they seriously put a red arrow pointing out to the stands on the mound ?
  4. Or as us less refined working class people would say. Same shit, different day.
  5. Yep we're right back to the accountability issue. Do what you're paid to do or suffer the consequences And that isnt a hard line stance either. If you aren't performing up to expected performance then you get get your ass moved around.
  6. More and more I'm starting to think this group of player doesn't need a nice guy as manager. They need a task master, a drill sergeant , someone to demand the best from them. We all love Jimenez potential but he's getting a rep as this happy go lucky idiot. I'd love to see him get pissed off, show some competitive fire. Not an out of control fire but a slow intense flame that drives you , consumes your competitive soul. Maybe AJP is the guy for this team.
  7. They were the KC A's back then not the Royals. Then they moved to Oakland and kept the green uniforms.
  8. I always get confused why people get miffed about hitters who guess. Hitting is mostly guessing. We want good ABs. There is a thought process to good ABs. You cant always be 100 % right in that thought process so much of it is informed guesswork based on pitcher knowledge, pitch sequencing and of course knowing how pitchers attack you and game situation like how many on how many outs, the count ,who's batting behind you.Robert gets mpthrown fastballs low and in sliders low and away, curves in the dirt. Pitchers want to get ahead in the count . Usually that means 1st pitch fastball but Robert has a rep of swinging at 1st and second pitches a lot. So he gets the off the plate sliders often. All hitters also knows traditionally hitting 1st pitch fastball results in a high percentage of hits. You can go on and on about this stuff.Ted William's wrote a book on it. Hawk used to say hitting a baseball is the hardest thing to do in professional sports hitting a round baseball with a round bat squarely. Physical gifts can get you far but being a smart hitter gets you farther. Look at Mendick .A low draft pick , not a lot of physical gifts but he gives you some of the best ABs on the team. He seems to be one of the few who gets it.
  9. Oh man I would get so many likes if I could photoshop Ricky's salivating grinning face on Homer Simpson's body with a "Mmmm pie" thought bubble above his head. Edit : Ahh I see that thought has already been explored as I go back and read the whole thread.
  10. I've been suggesting Gennett since BC ( before Covid). But apparently he's a stubborn SOB who thinks he's worth more than he is.
  11. It makes plenty of sense. You are just keeping his name around. He doesn't have to win the poll. Look , I loved that you posted the long article from the Athletic regarding how Paddy approached Tatis Sr. and everything else in that article. I had stayed out of much discussion in the past on the trade because I felt uninformed . What you posted changed that. And you took heat for it so even more kudos . Just keep being you .Take the jabs in stride as typical stupid male bonding rituals of constantly poking each other with a stick. I ll apologize if you feel it's warranted.
  12. Sox lack of middle infield depth now pretty apparent. Do they even have another middle infielder in Schaumburg?
  13. Ha. Thank you. I saw the thread and just SMH. Caulfield gonna Caulfield being sooo deceptively clever .Not
  14. Yea and besides that Squirmin' always batted 9th when he wasnt carrying the bats around.
  15. So today's game is cancelled/postponed. Can we make the title reflect that ?
  16. This is the official Jump the Gun thread. We have no idea what's going to happen with our starters the rest of the year nor do we know how Covid will affect next season. Confirmation bias is settling in on Mazara despite warnings about SSS just about everywhere you look. 8 games and 20 AB for Marzara. He could go 3 for 4 tomorrow with a HR and a double and his OPS is around .850 and OBP is around .450.
  17. Worst trades in MLB history are always discussed .For years we've heard about the Cubs trading Lou Brock. It's baseball lore now or is on it's way there should Tatis continue on the same trajectory. .
  18. Ok yes we were all jumping to conclusions based on a single data point.Have it you way. If you dont want to deal with reality theres nothing else to discuss. You already made up your own history of events. Hahn had no power, Shield couldve been Cole Hamels or Randy Johnson, the Padres interest in Tatis was pure luck and Tatis was a one in 10,000 lotto ticket . IF the odds were that high for every player Marco Paddy ever signed he wouldn't have a job let alone be a highly respected talent evaluator. Do you really think so little of your Soxtalk brethren that in a long thread on the trade that not one person hating the trade made any kind of sense and you have nothing to learn ?
  19. People will always discuss controversial subjects involving things they are passionate about . It's not quite the JFK assassination but on a Sox forum it might as well be.
  20. Ok however many months before the season ends. BUT it will be difficult for teams to make offers while we're still in the pandemic so I do expect a slow market and not much happening in December. Players may also wait ,hoping for a vaccine if the offers they get due to the pandemic ,are low.
  21. Yes I do. First and foremost the season has to finish . Theres no way to know what we need yet. This thread is 5 months early.
  22. https://www.futuresox.com/2020/08/10/dane-dunning-critiqued-refined-his-stuff-now-waits-for-the-call/ Dunning seems like he has a lot on the ball. Good attitude.
  23. Players do the best they can. They have careers at stake, families to feed. No one loses on purpose. Even on a bad team guys are thinking they have opportunities to show that they are more than perceived . They all want to win. Most dont take losing silently. No matter how bad they are at the highest level most grew up as celebrated athletes and winners their whole lives.
