QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 08:24 PM) 1.) I hope you are ready for a long rebuild. Are you going to follow the Sox if they get rid of everybody and suck like the Royals for 5-6 years? Quentin is our second best hitter. 2.) This. CQ should be part of our future plans. Too bad our GM can't make creative trades or steal players of value once in a while. Trading Quentin leaves a gaping hole in the lineup for some time to come. I am with you on this

I was also thinking that 1964 was a battle with the Yankees and we finished with 99 wins but one game behind the Yankees

QUOTE (StatManDu @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 09:44 PM) Interesting you mention Peters ... Exactly a week prior, he hit a two-run homer in the 13th to lift the Sox to victory. A day prior to Fisher's heroics, Hoyt Wilhelm delivered a walkoff hit for the Sox. Ah the old days of baseball glory. Or was it kind of embarasssing when our pitchers hit better than our position guys?

Do you think after Jackson getting traded the team would keep its starters intact now? Especially if we are still "all in"
-
Dunn will hit again there is no doubt. Putting him back in the NL might not be all bad for him or the Sox. If he stays here that's fine with me, but I sure wouldn't gripe about a trade back to the NL for something in return. Maybe just salary dump

QUOTE (StatManDu @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 07:29 PM) In the wake of Atlanta's win over Pittsburgh the other night in which the pitcher recorded a walkoff hit, I HAVE found the last time that happened to the Sox. On July 26, 1964, reliever Eddie Fisher's RBI single in the 12th handed the Sox a 5-4 win over Minnesota in the first game of a doubleheader at Comiskey Park. Now you know I remember Eddie Fisher - the Sox pitcher. Good relief pitcher I always thought the best Sox pitcher with a bat was Gary Peters. I seem to remember the team batting Peters like 6th in the order becasue we had such a light hitting team in the 60's especially that 1967 pennant race

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 07:45 PM) I'm sure most people would think that. Especially since he is our hottest hitter. However, the AL Central is very winable regardless if we have TCQ or not. If "Tank" is ready for full time at the big league level and we get MLB ready pitching in return from ATL- then you never know! Yeah but the Tank may not be our salvation either. Not that I wouldn't like to see him at 3B or LF

I wrote up one great post on my thoughts against trading CQ and my computer froze up. All I can say is I hope we don't trade Quentin. Our weaknesses are no run production at 3B (but good defense), no produection in CF along with sluffing off (De Aza there right now though - one game judgement) and a dark hole at DH (but with some life showing in the last few games). Viciedo called up and replaces Pierre in LF or plays at 3B might be an option. The team traded for a releif pitcher and have up a starter and a sub for 3B and the OF. I felt beter getting Frasor when I heard he had a club option to stay next season. We know Jackson didn't and was most likely gone. I again have to emphasize my thoughts that you keep your better players and build around them. Don't drain your farm system in trades and start filling in with our own talent. We apparently must whittle down the payroll according to some cause we are darn near broke but the main bucks are goingn to RIOS, Peavy, Konerko and Dunn. Am I correct? Make sense to move the most expensive non-performer to a team with a GM with as big an ego as our guy. All we might hope for is a salary dump I don't know. Rios is the enigma here. A poor 2009 folowed by a great 2010 and now he is in the tank again. But, I think it is utterly crazy to ssay we have to keep this guy because he makes a lot on money. I kind of believe performance is the reason to keep or trade the guy.

QUOTE (Chisox88 @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 05:41 PM) For all the negativity of Soxtalk, I thought that was interesting. We can still win the division and maybe more

Bad trades and/or putting a team togeher is more an indictment of Kenny Williams then Ozzie Guillen. But, I would not be surprised at all if Ozzie does leave for the Miami Marlins next season. Phil Rogers blurbs that maybe Tony Larussa will be welcomes back to Chicago in 2012? But, you know what say what you will about Guillen we have an under producing team this season and he is still within 3 1/2 games of the top. I have often wondered about the aggressiveness of the Sox to pull off deals and use our farm system as the feeder for other teams. We have given up some pretty decent youngsters. Yes we won in 2005 but memories run short in baseball. If Ozzie and Kenny are both here in 2012 I have no problem with that either. I just hope for a better producing club

QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jul 28, 2011 -> 12:12 AM) There's no catch-all in trade winds, but another right handed outfielder- BJ Upton- isn't in the lineup tonight. And: SPTimesRays Marc Topkin Upton had Sunday off so it's definitely not a "day of rest." The rays are trying tio trade Upton. Reports are they are convinced he will never be a major league hitter. Lots of talent but low production

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 06:36 PM) Jayson Stark is saying that the Phillies offered up Jared Cosart, Jonathan Singleton, and another mid tier pitching prospect for Hunter Pence. Quentin is cheaper and has been more productive this year than Pence, but is worse defensively, but I would think a similar package could be had for CQ. Giving the Sox a solid bat in the system to replace PK and a starter for 2013. I hope we don't trade CQ. One of our better players but I have seen some bad moves over the course of the last few years

Cardinals Acquire Edwin Jackson in Multi-Player Deal July 27, 2011 – The Cardinals have acquired right-handed pitcher Edwin Jackson, right-handed reliever Octavio Dotel, left-handed reliever Marc Rzepczynski, outfielder Corey Patterson and three players to be named later or cash considerations. St. Louis sends outfielder Colby Rasmus, pitchers P.J. Walters, Trever Miller and Brian Tallet to Toronto. The Jays acquired Jackson earlier today in a deal with the Chicago White Sox.

Pitching change for the third out. I am always worried we are messing with success in these situations. But, I guess it has been succesful too -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) 1 hit and 3 BB today for Dunn. This last week is sorta what Dunn is supposed to look like, except with 1 or 2 of those Cleveland fly balls actually leaving the park. Yes sir on that. Maybe just maybe -

I must be missing something with the trade stuff. We have what 11 or 12 baserunners and the only offesne is by the guy we just brought up from AAA and that is only 2 runs. I think we need some offensive boost, but that's just me -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2011 -> 07:21 PM) Danks faces 5 batters, not one of them put the ball in play. Maybe he has a lot of movement on the ball today? I am only guessing but the pitches located on MLB game day all looked prety close even when called balls
