Sox @ Indians 7/22/11 Gamethread

Let's Win One! Sis Boom Dah Boom Dah Boom -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 11:50 PM) Send Lillibridge down. I wouldn't be sending Lilli down or trading him. He is needed in the role he plays and he has done well. You send down or trade non-performers

I predict that Dayan Viciedo will be up with the team sometime - I am going out on a limb here I know.

Anyone else avoid 90% of the topics started recently?

I just see too many repeat topics many of which are negative and simply phrased a different way. For the most part I enjoy this site and the conversations, but I don't have the time to read them all or reply. I think that is folks perogative though. Everyone has their opinion and sometimes two of them. I think at times we get a bit personal or take it personal -me included - and that isn't right. Bottom line is we are all Sox fans and want to win and preferably win 162 games. -
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) WE'VE BEEN DOING THAT ALL SEASON. Yeah, but they perform just well enough at times that we exhale and inhale again

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 10:58 PM) I don't get too excited about 27 year olds' stats in AAA although I agree, he can't be any worse than Rios. KW did say earlier this year he was a lot better player than most people thought. If Rios is slacking in Chicago becasue he isn't happy - I think we wer told he had an easily brusied ego - maybe the team should eat part of his salary to trade him to someone in DIRE need of an outfielder? Let them renegotiate his contarct or something. I have been waiting for him to turn things around, but consensus seems to be it ain't gonna happen. Morel might be in line to return to AAA or trade Teahan. Trading Teahan seems to be more the possibility though. Bring up Viciedo and De Aza. The way the offense has looked we need somebody to stir things up. I belieev we have options and they don't include sending down Lillibridge or trading Quentin or a pitcher. However, we know that might happen too

AJ rated #93 of 94 in overall C's defense

I prefer not to think about his failure to throw out runners or be a bad defender. Maybe it's partially becasue our pitchers generally do a poor job of holding runners on? -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 08:41 PM) I think what we're seeing this season is the end result of Lilli as a sub who plays a couple times a week...an incredible hot streak followed by a couple really down months. My issue is...when a guy like Lilli gets into a slump, he's not likely to get out of it while playing once per week. That's why I say I'm at least curious what he could do with more consistent PT. If a guy can hit a streak like the one we saw from him earlier this season, that tells me there's some legit ability there which could be harnessed...the next step in harnessing it is some level of consistency, which he can't establish from the bench. Being a bench player and expecting someone to come out and be a consistent hitter especially is a true concern. Maybe even not a consistently good fielder. Lilli has had those times when he is just plain lights out and who can forget those great outfield defensive plays. Maybe he needs to get a chance to start in CF? I still have a struggle with that though. The full-time position that is. He may not be up to the grind of starting everyday, but is an excellent role player.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 07:31 PM) I'm still not convinced of this at all. Your reply is interesting. I like Lillibridge a lot, but I think he is better suited for the super sub role and not playing everyday, but I could be wrong.

WGN-A on Saturday night is all I could find for us outside of the Chicago area. 6:00 PM CDT start and that is 5:00 PM in God's country

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 03:40 PM) I had seen the injury mentioned in another article and it basically said that he would be ready to play on Friday with 3 righties scheduled for the Indians. Let's hold our breath and hope for the best. Maybe this is the series he breaks out. We sure need every player to perform well in Cleveland

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 04:29 PM) DeAza .327/9/36 SB:21 Bring his MF'ing Aza up! AAA numbers don't always translate into a succesful major league career, but I am almost ready to try anything. De Aza certainly gives his all from what I picked up from Spring Training. Viciedo too. Maybe the infusion of those two fellows would jump start the team offesne, but heaven forbid if they struggled for a couple weeks getting their feet wet in the bigs. Who goes down or who gets released or traded? Morel down and maybe our non-existent DH to the injury list?

At thias point in time I think the only one that can fix Dunn is Dunn. Might not happen this year.

Cooper hangs up on show after Dayan question

I am guessing the pressure is getting to all of them. Tired of the same old stuff day after day. Just like us fans. -
Dunn

Same old stuff about who to trade. I see some issues with people not performing, but I don't see the need to retool the whole team. 3B is an issue, DH is an issue and LF and CF are issues. Pitching is not the issue so much, but that's who you always hear is our trade bait. We trade our strength and keep playing with our weaknesses? Read Phil Rogers today and our only trading partner is the Cubs apparently. What we need is more of Ozzie Guillen kicking some people in the seat of the pants and motivating them to be team players with the bats. How many of us here really thought Adam Dunn would be such a dismal failure at DH? I am not sure he would have been any better with the bat playing in the OF full time. I would like to see Viciedo up too, but is this the second coming? I don't know, but Kenny has to do something to get this offense motivated. Omar Vizquel getting caught off second base again and ruining a possible rally? A wild pitch to lose the game! Ozzie Guillen getting socked by a foul ball, which is all the TV highlights show! What more indignities will visit this team? How much more will thse guys suffer through and still give you the old tired lines of "You got to hand it to that (Insert here) that rookie, that crafty old veteran, that soft tossing junk ball pitcher, etc, etc? I still think we can win, but at this point not becasue of the drive of our players, but because the Tigers and Indian are letting us stay close.

7-20: Sox (47-50) vs. Royals (39-58); 7:10; CSN

QUOTE (kapzk @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 01:06 AM) How many ppl here want Dunn to retire? I do, sadly. There have been rumours swirling that if his struggles continue he will walk away from baseball. So that does mean we dont owe him the money on his remaining years of the contract. We can certainly somehow retool the roster with that money, especially 3B or sumthing To retire? NO! But, I do want him to hit the ball out of the park. I too think he should have a minimum of 20 homers and 50 some RBI's right now. Maybe he would be trade bait? Some NL team might want him knowing he hit good in that league. I don't want to give up hope for the guy, but he is almost an automatic out -
