  1. How does Dunn feel about the Tribe giving Paulie IBB to get to him when he hits lefty against righty?
  2. Our offense has to do more than score in one inning every game
  3. Rios likes those high hard ones. Can't lay off
  4. Did I mention at any time how Dunn had two hits Friday? Good for a week now. Whole offense kind of in a funk
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) Fair enough, but I like Santiago's arm, and i'm ready to see what he can do the rest of the season, win or lose. I sure can understand that too. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. To be very honest I knew nothing about Santiago prior to his being called up.
  6. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 05:59 PM) Sounds like the Cards are trying to rape the Sox. Jackson & Thornton PLUS a prospect/cost controlled player for an underperforming/attitude problem Rasmus? I hope not. I'd give them Jackson + Thornton for Rasmus + one of their prospects. I have similar thoughts, but not both pitchers for Rasmus. That is unless that prospect is a darn good one
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) Once they moved Thornton back to setup, he pretty much has been himself. Still, with the remaining years on his contract, I'd dump that in the right deal and look to fill the lefty setup role in-house with Santiago. It's too bad Leesman hasn't developed into that role by now. My concern with that scenario is we annoit a minor league player our set up man after seeing him for 2 games. Many were convinced Josh Field was the new Joe Crede too
  8. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 05:52 PM) Remember, we do have 6 starting pitchers this year. And Thornton really hasn't been Thornton this year anyways. No argument, but Matt has been a lot better. He is a set up man and you need that just like we had Cliff Politte in 2005. And the Sox have seemed to do fine with 6 starters and may want to continue. I am just saying there are other considerations to take into account. It is an interesting scenario to say the least and I am sure we all would like to see some kind of move
  9. QUOTE (FlySox87 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 04:41 PM) Are we gonna play this one today? I'm gonna be pissed if my weekend doesn't have any White Sox baseball. Me too. I was sitting in front of the TV last night expecting to see the Sox game on WGN and instead had to watch another Boston game
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 04:13 PM) So Humber's getting his start skipped. Doesn't sound like he's too happy about it. Too bad we don't skip our worst pitcher instead of the guy who's been our best this year. I am sure Phil wants to be doing battle, but it seems he understands what the Sox are doing and said he is fine with it. Or at least that's the story I read
  11. I wonder what team needs to make such a trade more? If you agree that pitching is a cornerstone of a winnnig team we seem willing to admit we aren't in it and trade two pitchers for an outfielder, who may have talent mind you, but has been criticized for the same type of play we attribute to Rios. I don't like players with negative attitudes. I can see making trades that improve both teams, but to do afire sale is simply admitting you can't win your division. Kind of like we give up cause we aren't in frst place. Only six teams are in 1st so 24 should be sellers. If we have no intyention of trying to keep our starting staff intact then by all measn try and make such a trade using Jackson. But, not both Thornton and Jackson. Maybe the Sox are looking for more young talent in return so trading both makes sense then. Regardless, you make trades to help your team fill a need not open more up.
  12. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 04:23 PM) I only like trading pitching for pitching, not to re-debate this, but look at the Swisher trade, same premise, two young pitchers for an underachieving outfielder. Here we go again. The old adage in baseball was never to trade a pitcher for a hitter.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 04:19 PM) The good news is that as long as it's not Viciedo, I really don't care which of our minor leaguers we trade. I wouldn't think the Sox would trade Viciedo anyway would you? All the hype KW and Ozzie have given this guy to suddenly trade him away for Rasmus, who isn't performing at any high rate from what the stats seem to show. Where does Viciedo now firt in unless we see a remake of our OF. I guess Dayan could end up at 3B after all
  14. Edwin Jackson for Rasmus maybe. Get Rasmus and that means Rios and or Pierre are gone. We still need the spot for Viciedo, if they keep him in the OF that is. Maybe he goes to third anyway?
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 11:52 PM) They're expecting another big front to hit Cleveland soon. My uneducated prediction is an 8:45 CST first pitch. You are probably close. The Ole Hawkero said around 9 PM
  16. Tigers lost and the Sox have a chance to build on last nioght, get a winm and move up a game in the standings. Now we may get rained out. DH's are never good
  17. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) I love it when Lillibridge is the subject of a debate. Kinda like our politicians talking about the price of a stamp when the govt might get shut down. He is not going to make a big difference, but, since you commented, just let me say that Lilli does not play much SS or 3B any more, he is almost strictly an OF; I haven't seen any pop in his bat recently; I still remember his sleepwalking play in CF (which I promised not to mention again). Now, if Kenny releases Omar, it changes everything. We need to find some offensive contribution in CF without sacrificing too much defense, and DeAza fills that bill and Lilli does not. I think if you look back at the games played so far you will find that Lilibridge has made a positive difference. My only criticism comes when we take a player that is well suited for the role player assignment and gets put in as an everyday starter and can't keep up the good level of play he had been performing. Kind of like setting him up for failure
  18. OMG - I just checked back in and Dunn has two hits!!!!!! Resurrection time
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 02:05 AM) Just raisin that trade value. Please don't say that or even think it
  20. I folowed the first three innings and we had 7 runners on and nothing to show for it. Pretty impressive. The optimist in me says we are ready to break out of this slump
