QUOTE (quickman @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) I am very sorry you don't believe that. They do come in the summer months. They do own a house here for the summer. They live in scottsdale as there primary residence. Your choice on what you believe. On the flip side of that?...staying in Arizona in the summer is not great shake. It's friggin brutal actually. That's why I'm ready to pack up and move since I can't afford to be a snowbird.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 09:47 PM) My buddy sent me a text quoting KW as saying: "I'm more optimistic about everything then you are about us. And it doesn't matter what answer I give you, you're going to take the worst, most pessimistic road, so again, I'm not going to waste my time on you." you go Kenny....

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 11:36 PM) It depends on what you mean by good. If I thought I had a playoff contending baseball team, no, I would hate that rotation. However, if I was looking to develop a few starting pitchers and develop and offense and was in the beginning phases of turning the organization around, I'd have no problem with a rotation of Kennedy, Saunders, Hudson, Duke, and Enright. I also don't think Reynolds and LaRoche's production from last year is going to be that difficult to replace. Reynolds was f***ing awful, and LaRoche was merely solid. I'd also forgotten that they got David Hernandez in that deal for Reynolds today...I haven't seen him pitch, but I've only heard good things about him as a potential bullpen arm with control being the biggest concern. I think he is probably going to end up being their setup man this year and doing a fine job of it. I'm not suggesting that they are going to win the division, but finishing around .500 is not outside the realm of possibility. You may be right...and stranger things have happened. Still...I see them to losing 90 games this year. And I guess that was the point of the DBags...why would Putz go there if he was looking to hook up with a contender.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:50 PM) I don't quite understand why everyone assumes the DBacks are going to be bad. They had a good offense, they had a good defense, and their rotation was pretty solid...the main thing that was awful for them was their bullpen, and it was historically bad. Putz is part of that solution, and Towers has made a couple other moves (and will continue to make moves) to shore it up. I'm not suggesting they're going to be great by any stretch, but I could certainly see them being around .500. Beyond that, he gets quite a bit of money, and the Phoenix area is generally pretty relaxing. I wish JJ the best of luck. He had a hell of a season on the South Side, and we'll be thankful. Hopefully he tears the NL apart. Well...they lost 59 dingers getting rid of LaRoche and Reynolds. Their such and up and down team and I really don't see a whole lot more upside than we've already seen. I agree they have some decent young talent like Upton and Kelly Johnson (if you wanna call him young at 28). Could they (the young guys) put it together this year? Maybe...but I wouldn't hold my breath. You seem more optimistic than 99% of DBag fans out here... Would you feel good going into the season with a rotation of: Ian Kennedy Joe Saunders Hudson Duke ?

QUOTE (beckham15 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:31 PM) Adam Dunn is a career NL guy.... true...I thought about that as I typed. But I think Dunn is just a different bird than Lee. Just sayin...I'm probably way off on this.
-
DLee sounds nice and all...but I don't know if I'm a big fan of bringing over a career national league guy and expect him to produce immediately not knowing a majority of the pitchers in the AL. If it came down to choice I'd rather have Pena. Hope it's all a moot point and PK just give hancock on the paper soon.

have fun as a cellar dweller JJ...

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) That would be a terrible deal for the Brewers and a fireable offense for Melvin. One would think more would be involved than just Loney and Broxton....
-
QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) Dodgers willing to listen to offers for Broxton after all... I wonder what they'd be looking for? per ESPN: The Los Angeles Dodgers are actively involved in discussions on a possible three-player deal with the Milwaukee Brewers that would bring slugging first baseman Prince Fielder to Los Angeles in exchange for Dodgers first baseman James Loney and embattled closer Jonathan Broxton, according to multiple sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:44 PM) Be smart though, if the D-Backs offer him the best money, and they fall out of the race next year, they're very likely to just trade him mid-season to a contender They're out of it before it even started...

QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) Damn...missed it. Anyone feel like recapping it for me? I would but I only understood maybe half of what he said...

wtf...is MLB Network on endless loop right now. I've seen/heard the same crap for the last hour and a half.

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:28 PM) Watch KW get Ichiro this week. This kind of latent blather needs to stop! I'm too old to pop wood before noon!

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 06:56 PM) Anyone think that Boston might offer to Konerko? He did grow up early on in Rhode Island. They can offer him...but I think it would be a waste of their time.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 05:07 PM) Dunn @ 4/56M looks like an absolute steal by comparison. It really does...
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) Now either LAA or Bos or NYY is going to lose out on the OF help they need. With the AGon revelations...boston busts their ass on getting a crawford deal done I think.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) To some extent, possibly. He's probably been a wild, free swinger since he was in middle school. If "cutting down on strikeouts" was an easy thing for a coach to accomplish, there'd be a lot more really good major league hitters. Maybe a different coach overhauls everything and suddenly he's the guy everyone thinks he could be...but there's a reason why it hasn't happened so far. I almost think one of the worst things that happened to him was his huge power surge in the playoffs a few years back...ever since then it's been a down town swing all the time. Like I said...I think he's one of those prime players that needs a change of scenery desperately...and definitely worth the risk. As much as I'd love to see CQ succeed...I just have more reservations about him being a completely hopeless headcase than I do Upton's upside. With Upton at least you'll get the solid D with about the same avg. Tough call though IMO...
-
They had to do something to keep the fanbase interest. Overpay...absolutely. I think Werth made a smart move staying in the NL too...
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) The problem with Upton is in his stats. He's Adam Dunn-like in his strikeouts, but he's not Dunn-like in his power. He's going to strike out 150+ times a year. IF you hit 1 out of every 10 balls you touch out of the ballpark, you'll still put up overall decent numbers, but if you can't do that, you're going to run into that BABIP wall. If you're striking out that much you clearly don't have great bat control, and so there's only so much you can do unless you can knock down the strikeouts. Literally, this is the kind of player his is always going to be, unless either you can push him up to 35+ HR power, or you totally rework his swing to cut him down to 120 or fewer strikeouts. So you're saying it's a coaching problem?

Really wouldn't be surprised to see Texas step into the mix for AGon....

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) CQ/Tank would be an overpay. Upton's defense appears to have fallen off. He has been below-average on defense, according to UZR/150 that suggests Upton was better than average in 2008-09. Even though his strikeout and walk rates are similar to his career averages, Pitch f/x data shows that Upton is swinging at more pitches than ever, especially ones out of the strike zone. I don't know...seems to me Upton is one of those guys that SORELY needs a change of scenery much like Rios did. He's pretty young and I think his best years would be ahead of him.

Going All In Then It's Time to Try Beckham in 3 Spot
Wanne replied to Marty34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) Really, he's not even close? The numbers in the thread description are a pretty decent argument. Becksy's problem is these mental slumps. He's had 2 of them now; 1 for the first 30-40 at bats of his career, and 1 for the first couple months of last year. Outside of those, he's been an exceptional hitter. I think those numbers are a little deceiving Balta IMO. He has moments of breaking out...but don't you think a lot of it was due to the pitches he was seeing and the fact he was hitting in the 9-hole. How many times is it lamented "giving up a hit or a walk to somebody in the 9-hole." They're just pitched to differently than 1-6 hitters. Becksy...wth did this come from? Mr Horse says, "No sir...I don't like it!" -
Going All In Then It's Time to Try Beckham in 3 Spot

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) I want to squash the usage of "Becksy" right here and right now, dammit. Yeah...gonna have to second that. Ghey1 I'm really dumbfounded people even talk about Beckham in the 3 hole. In a perfect world...sure...but he's not even close to being anywhere near that spot in the order. I'm just hoping for a bounce back year from him for cryin' out loud.
