Paul Konerko Re-Signs with White Sox

SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that competing executives believe Paul Konerko "will surely stay" with the White Sox.

The White Sox want Konerko back, and he doesn't want to go anywhere, so it's probably only a matter of time before something gets done. Heyman speculates that Paulie would get $13 million per season. Adam Dunn is now in the fold, but he's better off as a DH, anyway, with Konerko spending most of the time at first base. Dec. 3 - 11:57 pm et

Is there even such a thing as midget porn?

Well, with both Konerko and Dunn, there's no place for Viciedo, unless he plays RF and Quentin is dealt.

I suppose there's a chance he goes back to 3B again if Morel's bat fails.

We really don't want to see Teahen at 3B or RF, so it seems that KW has no choice but to do another Linebrink-esque deal to get him off the roster and away from the playing field.

I don't want to see Teahen on the team at all. Many say his main asset is that he can "play all over" making him a super-sub. The truth is he can't really play well defensively anywhere. Sure he can put on a glove and be stationed at 3B, 2B, 1b, LF, or RF but he is a negative defender at any of those positions.

But the main reason I don't want him on the team is Ozzie. Most other managers would use Teahen as a LH pinch hitter, backup 1B, and maybe once in a while at DH. I could live with that. But with Ozzie, I guarantee he will be this year's Kotsay, getting way too much playing time at the expense of Morel, and probably even Paulie, Dunn and whoever the RFer is. The fans will grow to hate him, not because of the player he is but because of the way Ozzie will over use and abuse him ala Duane Wise, Mark Kotsay, Mackowiak, Erstad, Timo, etc.

Like all other GMs, KW has to put together a bench but he also has the added burden of "Ozzie proofing" the roster. Please KW, get rid of Teahen before his presence on Ozzie's squad comes back to bite us.

Do we think it's going to be a 3 or 4 year deal? I love Konerko, but his age (34) really concerns me. His 2009 season was great, but is it more likely that we regret giving him 3 years at $13 million per season or do we think we'll be happy with the production that we got out of this deal?

There is NO WAY the White Sox do 4 years. And I highly doubt PK gets $13 per either but who knows....one thing I would bet on is he doesn't get more than 3 yrs, if there is a 4th it will be a team option with a really low buyout.

Realistically who are the other teams that will be in on this? Heyman reported yesterday via twitter that D'Backs are out... I've heard the O's, but I imagine it would have to be a Godfather offer for him to go to the east coast and get his brains beat in by that division for the last stretch of his career. Also heard Cubs, but also believe all the reports they realistically can't add significant payroll and nobody is taking a significant chunk of one of their bad deals to free it up. If A's made a play for Dunn I would guess they would go after PK. What other teams are rumored at this point?

I don't think 3/$13M would be regrettable, but I doubt PK will be worth 39 million dollars over the next three seasons. 2010 is clearly offensively abnormally high for PK. His offensive runs generated above replacement level in 2010 is greater than that of the previous three seasons, COMBINED. His 2010 BABIP, 41 points above career average. I'm wary to commit for three years to a guy exiting his prime. I'd rather do a short-term incentive-laden deal for Lee and possibly Berkman who have a good chance to be just as productive as PK in 2011. This will also grant us the two extra draft picks we need to replenish our horribly barren farm system.

This is funny, and unfortunately rather truthful.

Why not two years and an option that vests at 500 PAs in 2012 for PK? PK was making noise even at the end of last year about "retiring." I don't think he wants to hang on if he's hurting or not productive. But I do think he'd love to make another run at a championship, and with the Sox.

Because it sounds like Baltimore has already offered him the guaranteed 3rd year.

If they are "all in" like Williams states I really do not see a place for Viciedo on this team. In fact I think Viciedo will eventually be traded to get bullpen help. Morel will be the only "chance" player we take. Morel has true defensive skills he will stick. If Konerko doesn't resign, Lee might be the next target as you get a veteran, decent defensive player who is a good locker room guy. I do like the beltre Idea but I have no idea how this guy is in the locker room.

If Paulie says no, how about going after Beltre to play 3B and making Viciedo the firstbaseman. Its a longshot all things considered, but may be even a better answer than Paulie if Viciedo is legit.

I love Beltre. But his agent is Boras and he's looking for I believe 5 years.
