I think the way he gets the ball from his glove and throws it back to the pitcher is really weird (always, not just this inning). Looks like some kind of weird routine that a guy uses to overcome the yips.

Korey is hitting at about a park-adjusted league average clip in AAA, a tick below that on the Statcast expected metrics. Reasonable to think he would out-hit Romo (it's a very, very low bar). Most signs point to Lee being a pretty brutal defensive catcher, besides his throwing arm being so strong. Last I looked, he was among the worst framers in AAA which is the biggest contributor to defensive value for catchers. And he has a bad track record for blocking in MLB, which is the next biggest contributor to defensive value. You get the impression that the Sox think he's bad at calling games, but I don't know how to evaluate that very easily from the outside. Eric Haase is right there though. He's also not really a very good defender, but his bat is a little more proven (albeit unexceptional to say the least) and he's managed to have a MLB job a long time so I assume the intangibles must not be too bad.

Looks like the rule as revised a couple years ago is that if he's touching the infield grass at the wrong moment, he's out. I can't roll it back right now but I'm assuming he was indeed on the grass.

AJ was right initially. What's the letter of the law there? Chase was in line with the base, he didn't need to move towards foul territory to touch the base. What are his obligations?

I've really marveled at the way Colson has been fouling balls off his legs. That's just a crazy amount of pull tendency. Back in high school, I had never done that before as a hitter — more of a liner up the middle guy because I hadn't partaken in the sabermetrics kool-aid yet. First time I got a varsity at-bat, I was totally amped up and worried I'd look overwhelmed by the higher velocity so I wanted to try to catch something out in front more than I normally would. First pitch I see is in the zone about waist high and BOOM I ripped that thing off my own knee and could barely finish the at bat from the pain. Anyway, I just think about how out of sorts I had to be in order to make that happen and yet Colson seems like he could do it on command.

Miguel isn't feeling the heat because he is merely not getting good results rather than looking really bad along the way. Maybe the plate discipline and stuff isn't all the way to its best level, I'm not sure, but he's not going up there having horrible at bats.

Well those are two separate systems. There's 1 challenge for safe/out/fair/foul that you get to use before the 7th inning (I only think I'm right about the use it or lose it before the 7th thing), and the two challenges for ball/strikes that you use over the 9 innings. One doesn't affect the other

Those are still on the 2 missed challenges per game system until extras

Hicks doesn't need to feel too bad about anything until he gives up the Adell double. That's too weak of a hitter to get beat by with platoon advantage. Especially given that you gave him a very easy pitch to hit.

We're getting close to where Meidroth outhits Antonacci despite not being protected from his weak platoon side while also playing very strong defense.

That from Chase reminds me of the old school guys saying walks are overrated because sometimes you need to get a hit in this AB and that might mean swinging at a pitch outside the zone
