Game Thread: White Sox vs. those pesky Astros
Jake replied to BigEdWalsh's topic in 2013 Season in Review
At least Flowers' bat has started to show some life and his throwing has really become excellent as of late. He has a little time to get his head on straight when it comes to blocking balls. -

Dunn's BABIP has been so low that there is no explanation for it but bad luck. He'll bat over .200 for the season. Beyond that, I dare not prognosticate too much on the enigma that is Adam Dunn -

Dunn's BABIP trending upward some more. -
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 01:27 PM) Does the new CBA still allow a team to pay for college costs for high school signees? If so does that count against a teams bonus allotment? Someone will have to look this up, but my understanding is that that is an MLB program available to everyone. I could be way off base, though.

Hector dropping down against lefties. If he can begin to get lefties out....watch out. -
I don't know that he's pretending it's cricket so much as he's never seen a baseball game and is pretending to understand the action. Imagine if you watched a game of cricket, for instance, and had to describe what was happening -- you'd probably inadvertently start using terms from other sports. EDIT: nothing got me more than Ichiro = Joseph Gordon Levitt. Also, I knew his mind would be blown by the pickoff move...I remember having to explain that to my girlfriend

Do you want Ventura back as manager next year?
Jake replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Voted yes. He's a fine manager and should get better. I hope we aggressively reload in the next year or two and he's still here when we're ready to make a run. Bad franchises change managers. I'm not a fan of changing managers just for s***s and giggles. I don't like "generals," that isn't how baseball works. I think Robin does a good job with young players because he doesn't jump down their throats and the players know that a single failure won't result in a benching. -
Color me nervous about this series now.

I thought it was pretty funny

I'll be real, I don't love our chances right now. Things can change quickly, though

Here we go again... 3rd period didn't end all that well. Game has become very sloppy...we need to control the pace again like we did in the first
-
Neither team looks much like they'll score right now.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 15, 2013 -> 03:35 PM) @WojYahooNBA: If Celtics and Clippers can finalize a deal that includes Doc Rivers, Kevin Garnett will waive his no-trade clause, league sources tell Y! Sounds like it would be Deandre Jordan and two 1st-rounders for Garnett, Rivers. That's a win for Celts, if you ask me. They were going to lose Doc anyway and KG has to be close to retirement.

Men's vs Women's Athletic Ability

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 03:05 PM) Why does softball exist? Why can't women play baseball? No clue. Seems like an arbitrary thing, to me. You'd think with some of the unexceptional athletes that can make it in baseball, you'd be able to find a woman here or there that could cut it. I mean, you'd think if David Eckstein can be an All-Star caliber player that the top woman baseballers could probably cut it if there was a system in place to train young girls in baseball instead of softball. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 11:31 AM) My favorite part about the first article is George Lucas's beard chin. Without the beard, he'd look like Jabba the Hut. People have been whining about the poor quality of popular cinema and its imminent downfall since motion pictures were first played in a cafe in Paris. I'll believe it when I see it.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) Go to Dick's or Triple Threat Sports in Orland, although their stuff has really tailed off. Get a Shaw, Saad, Keith, Kane, or Toews. Hjalmarsson wouldn't be a bad option either. All of those guys will be Hawks for awhile. I'm pretty set on Keith unless there happens to be a deal on another specific player that I think will be around for a while. I'll check out TTS

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 09:03 PM) The top of the line Roku? Jesus, man. You're smarter than that. 13 cents a day for an incredibly better service? The humanity! Incredibly better how? Specifically, other than at playing video games. I can play video games on a PS4 with better specs without paying for its streaming services. I can pay for Roku, have no subscriptions, and stream my brains out. What am I missing?

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) How am I a fanboy? As I've said, Microsoft has great ideas, but I wouldn't put it past them to f*** it up. I think it's ridiculous in 2013 to have a cable box, a Roku box, a console, s***ty apps on a Smart TV and a laptop HDMI'd into a TV when you can solve it all in 1 machine. XBox has HBO, NFL and probably the Premier League. XBox has a better network, service and interface. That's worth 13 cents a day to me. DDR5 is completely unnecessary. The Xbox games at E3 looked better. I am interested to see how Kinect integrates with everything. As I've said, I probably won't buy a console for a long time. I no longer game enough to justify it, but if I do, it'll be an Xbox because I want a $400-500 console do more than just play games. If I was just interested in gaming, I'd get a Steam Box. Not paying the subscription buys me the top-of-the-line Roku in 18 months. Don't pretend that it isn't a huge knock on the XBOX that I have to pay for services that every other device like it doesn't charge for. Also, the Kinect is creepy as f***. Holy s*** man.

QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 07:21 PM) Probably not gonna happen. I'm looking into this for my parents, and my mother would not accept being without a TV in one of the several rooms she has TVs. Old people, you know. hmm...we could just get basic cable for those rooms since we already get internet from our cable provider...

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 07:15 PM) I just asked for a deal and get HBO and Showtime for 17.99 bundled. As for extra tvs, you can have 5 hooked up. I think it's time you got rid of some tubes. Probably not gonna happen. I'm looking into this for my parents, and my mother would not accept being without a TV in one of the several rooms she has TVs. Old people, you know.
