  1. Just thought I'd point out that it's no cinch that Rizzo will be a better player than Cashner when all is said and done. Not that the Cubs would ever need pitching, of course
  2. I don't think Greg is a troll
  3. Side note: since when was "freeze on a liner" extended to line drives that are clearly going to the outfield?
  4. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 09:00 PM) When you see that ball off the bat, you have two options a) go back to third -- you will not score on if it hits the ground because he'll throw you out. The one exception is if he dives and misses and the ball goes by him (on a trap play, you're still not scoring) b) go halfway, score if it hits the ground, go back and not score if there is a catch (which would require a web gem type play) He chose the wrong one. Let's not act like it was a play where it was clear a catch was being made, though There's honestly some chance he gets thrown out if he tagged up -- I don't recall how quickly Lough got to his feet but that was a shallow fly
  5. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:56 PM) I don't know what you're arguing here... he did dive? There is simple rule in baserunning "freeze on a liner" I would argue if you're tagging at third that would be the exception. Even if he just froze there he may have still have had a chance. Much better than running 30-45 feet down the line for nothing. 6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:54 PM) In the 7th, not all that often I would suggest but I have no stats to prove it. Now, if the Sox were winning at that point, I would absolutely agree with the move. The problem was that it was unclear if we were going to get any more baserunners and with that situation, it looked like it might be our best chance to score in that game.

    Marcus Semien walks.
  8. QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:52 PM) You're assuming Lough would have fielded it cleanly on a hop which is very unlikely considering he went all out for it. You don't know he's going to dive while the ball is on the way to him.
  9. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) I could probably think of 50 if we limit it to worst contributors . But wow really Rios ? Playing baseball your whole life, you know you can walk home on a hit and you run down the line with a ball in the air ??? Let's be fair. He can't walk home on that hit if he's standing on third when it hits the ground. Juan Pierre could throw him out with the way that was hit right to the outfielder.
  10. That play was a little tougher than we're making it seem. If he stays at third and the ball hits the ground (especially with no dive), he can't score. He basically had to decide in mid-air if it was more likely to be caught or not caught. He thought it wouldn't be caught, because of course it shouldn't have been.
  11. Ventura has already disciplined this player, I don't know what else he's supposed to do
  12. Rios would fit in very well on my old high school baseball team
  13. This is where you want a bunt

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:25 PM) Wilkins in the game now. Wise was pulled. Interesting. Wise traded for Adam Eaton?
  15. This has been discussed at length already. There is a belief in MLB that elite starters should be stretched to around 120 pitches. This is what we are doing with Chris.
  16. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:22 PM) Reach arounds. "Rios was beloved in the clubhouse"
  17. Yeah but did he hug his teammates?
  18. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:19 PM) Someone texted me...he still out there? Should be on deck as we speak, but I can't verify that
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:18 PM) Where you see that? I don't see it

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 27, 2013 -> 08:15 PM) Phegley is hitting somewhere in the low .200s now. That shouldn't have surprised anybody. Sample size is small though, he's a 2-for-3 performance away from having nice looking numbers. IMHO, Semien was and is a better prospect though.

Call that son of a b**** up!
  22. Jake replied to flavum's topic in FutureSox Board
Does Micah Johnson ever not get 2 hits in a game?
  23. Phegley runs like catcher
  24. Dayan hit that remarkably well for a ball that nearly hit the ground
