I'd rather pay handsomely for a third baseman than a starting pitcher. How many aces do you need? A Greinke-type trade gives you three plus Danks who is a damn solid 2, plus Floyd who has pitched like a nice 2 before and could certainly make himself into the best 5 in baseball. And I'm not even mentioning lights out Quintana. We have lots of starting pitchers and several more starting pitchers I'd try out from the MiLB before I'd say we have a legit problem there. Trading for a long term option at 3B would make more sense since 1. Brent Morel was never going to be a star even if healthy and meeting potential and 2. We may never see Brent Morel again and have no real 3B in the MiLB Or we can stand pat/make a minor move and not rid ourselves of the few young players of value that we have. Try to let the talented players on the MLB roster play well.

We need a win here Kyle. If you don't get us this win, I'm going to spam your facebook so that you know Soxtalk is serious business.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:51 AM) I'd target Greinke too since it's likely the biggest spenders won't. A top 3 of Sale, Greinke, and Danks pitching at or near their potential just about guarantees contention in the AL Central at the very least. I watched Greinke's post game interview last name and he reminds me of a socially awkward 13 year old. But then he pitches and he reminds you of [insert Cy Young award winner here, oh wait he already is one] Does anyone worry about those emotional issues he had a long time ago? To some extent I'm sympathetic to these things and I know you can walk away from those situations stronger than before, but I can't help but wonder especially since this would be his first big market experience.

QUOTE (Wedge @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:05 AM) Too soon LOL I remember the last years with Bobby. He wasn't terrible, but he just wasn't reliable. He started trying to pitch like a starting pitcher, throwing a slower fastball, screwing around with a bunch of different pitches and it all just blew up in his face. I remember how it became a legitimate topic on the news and post game shows about why he hadn't seen his curveball and why his fastball had gotten slower. He was my AAP so I love him

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 09:23 AM) If Danks comes back healthy, and Humber returns healthy and his struggles were related to his elbow, the rotation is easily good enough to win the Central. Without these 2 and Floyd pitching like he belongs in A ball most of the year, they are 1/2 game out. This. The last thing I want us to do is gut our franchise for a starting pitcher right now.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 23, 2012 -> 12:57 AM) Taking on at least some of his contract or give up quality potential which Kenny does NOT want to do. I'm still confused on whether we're taking on the whole contract and sending a bogus prospect over or whether we're sending a slightly better player over to get salary relief.
-
QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 11:14 PM) FWIW, Hearing Youk may be coming for prospect and cash. Could go down this weekend. We're sending out EXTRA cash to bring in Youk? Or am I reading that wrong.
-
I'm guessing it's a partial truth. I'd say it's something that may have cleared up on its own, but was just kind of nagging and with the way he's been pitching it isn't worth it to push anything. They probably felt this way about Danks until he really didn't heal up.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 10:02 PM) Im starting to get the feeling that Simon Castro is his guy. He got promoted today and seems to be on the fast track to the Major Leagues. I believe you have mentioned this earlier as well. I like that at least several publications thought very highly of Simon at one point and it seems that he only lost favor due to a loss of control, which appears to be back. It would be really nice to see him have a more dominant run than he's really had so far this year, just to see that ceiling of his show through.
-
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) It could be that as well. Your taking your training in stride. Glad to see your finally learning. you're*
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 10:04 PM) And again, why don't you use context? The quote you're using was clearly one made in jest in response to you ripping on Hudson. He's a sports writer

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2012 -> 09:59 AM) With the signing of Campbell he had no chance of making the team. Yeah I consider our team about as deep as they come at QB. Maybe we can keep Nathan on in the practice squad if he clears?

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 03:44 PM) I think we could do something like RealGM right here. http://forums.realgm.com/boards/index.php?...b8ec7c889b6a05d The first layer of the forum should be the sport of the forum, like SoxTalk, General Baseball Talk, Basketball Talk, Football Talk, etc, then move the Soxtalk sub forums into the Baseball Talk section, and then create sub forums for each sport forum. The front layer of the website would just be link to each sports forum. Since I think we still want Soxtalk as the flagship forum of the website, we could still leave the domain name of the home page as soxtalk.com, then and put Soxtalk forum in the first section on its own, and the subsequent sports forum in one section beneath it. Is this possible? I think this was deemed not possible, it was something I wanted to see as well but the guys that run Soxtalk (and created TalkBulls and TalkBears, among some other forums that no longer exist) don't have as much time to dedicate to the stuff since they're living in the real world now TalkBears also has a pretty active and independent user base and I don't think it is possible to migrate those members over to a unified board.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) It was interpreted as you stating PK doesn't know the rules because you posted PK doesn't know the rules. Wondering why he didn't step on the bag is not the same as saying that if you asked PK what the rule is that he wouldn't know. It's like saying that I think Paulie doesn't know how to work an at bat because I criticized his poor at bats lately.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) It's be $7-$8 million to take him on right now. It is definitely worth considering. I really don't think Kenny is eager to trade away the few trade pieces we have to get a starting pitcher, either.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) They showed the stat line of him hitting .316 with 2 HR over the previous 10 games. You can see how he's been smacking the occasional soft hit on early count mistakes, kind of like he's trying very hard to not get to two strike counts. The HR against the Cubs was just a medium depth fly ball any other day, but he certainly earned the other HR. I was hoping the other one meant he was back. It becomes abundantly clear that he's not whenever he gets up in a pressure situation.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) I never actually said he doesn't know the rules of baseball. I questioned why he didn't just step on the bag. He clearly had a brain fart. All I was pointing out was that his mental gaffe was more disturbing to me than Orlando's. DA and yourself are the posters who interpreted that as me stating PK doesn't know the rules. And in that instance, please tell me why he didn't just step on the bag? quit assuming bro PK knows the rules, he just doesn't like taking the easy way out
-
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 09:42 PM) Agreed. The current players on the team have to play better before the Sox bring in outside "help". If the "only" cost is the contract and a non-factor player, would it not be worth a crack over Hudson (assuming we only make the deal if we have the money to burn)
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 08:03 PM) Who is Euclides Leyer? I think he discovered mathematics or something
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 09:40 PM) We've got plenty of other pressing needs. I'll be happy when he goes elsewhere. I'm open to giving it a shot if the cost is miniscule. Shouldn't affect our ability to make any other moves...but seriously, I don't want this team paying out the ass for a starting pitcher right now.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 22, 2012 -> 04:51 PM) Youk's trade value just diminishes by the hour Good news for us.
-
Greinke pitched great today and honestly better than Sale, but Paul Konerko hasn't contributed s*** lately. Every time he comes up in a key at bat he takes a bad swing at a bad pitch in a hitter's count and gets doubled up. He needs to figure it out, get healthy, or sit out if he's hurting.
-
That's a terrible at bat PK. Pathetic. Don't take a half swing at a low first pitch breaking ball. What the hell is wrong with you?
-
I'd love to have you back Paulie
-
Umpire worked hard to keep Dunn from winning that at bat
