  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 06:23 PM) I'm not trying to bait anybody. Ozzie is terrible at his profession. I don't care about '05 anymore. One team wins it all every year. That doesn't mean the manager of that team is great overall. I like being a Sox fan again. This wouldn't be the case with Ozzie still managing. But what do you think of the Filibuster?
  2. Valverde likes to make things interesting, so hopefully tonight is interesting

    http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?p...&pid=621217 great name
  4. QUOTE (RZZZA @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 08:58 PM) Because thats the way some people express themselves, why do you not realize this? Don't let it bother you so much. One of these days I'll probably have to quit posting here
  5. A good splitter is among the most mind blowing things you can see as a hitter
  6. I wasn't too mad about Thornton v Prince. He was the absolute worst guy to have pitch to Delmon Young, though.
  7. Lucky for us, Detroit sucks. This one ain't over.
  8. Thornton was not a good matchup for these guys. They're all fastball hitters.
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 01:00 AM) I'll take #56 in black and white later today thank you very much. It's mostly the kid in me, but I really want it
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 08:13 AM) AP exams said otherwise. AP exams can be an interesting test for teachers, really. It takes a lot of different things having been done right to have students score well. I've had teachers that I consider very good at teaching not have students be successful on AP exams. Previous teachers may have been a factor, but in some cases I know for sure that it had some to do with their ability to plan the course. If the class learns everything you teach but doesn't succeed on the test, perhaps more or different things needed to be taught. I will say, though, now that I'm in college I wish I could have had more non-AP courses. In many subjects the AP curriculum is not very useful once you get into college.
  11. I think teaching is something that can (at times, at least) come somewhat easily to those that are able to do it. For those that are less equipped, it would be damn near impossible to do the job well.
  12. I haven't read the entire thread, but it shocks me that I haven't seen anyone posit the argument that perhaps teachers' jobs should have more "perks" because they are one of, if not the most important profession for the maintenance of American society. Good educators are the key to social mobility, ie the American Dream. We can't really control if kids are born into ideal situations, but we do have some control over their educational experience -- it should be a huge priority that children should have every opportunity to utilize their public education to move up the socioeconomic ladder if they wish. It starts with teachers. Pay them more, give them more protection if that's what it takes to attract the truly talented people to the profession. I can't even begin to tell you all the people I know who consider their dream job to teach, but they can't fathom taking on all the debt to become college educated (post-graduate experience needed in some states, even MORE debt) and then receive what is often not nearly enough to live a decent lifestyle and make meaningful progress on paying down loans. I realize there are exceptions to this based on where you teach, where you went to school, if you were able to get financial assistance in college, etc.
  13. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Gratuity "I still want Buehrle" post.
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 05:27 PM) You obviously don't like the shoulder shrug. It doesn't bother me. He's a big, slow as an ox. No need to run hard every time. Now DeAza? He has to sprint. we need him back in the lineup BTW. Badly. I have to say D-Wise has filled in better than I could have possibly imagined.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 02:08 PM) Times like this I wish we had that one power bat on the bench. T Flow!!! Jose Lopez several years ago!!!
  16. Let's watch those curveballs a little longer before swinging
  17. This AB has not started well
  18. There is a little you can learn from 15 games' numbers. There is a lot more you can learn by watching the games and I assume our scouts did that. If he looked like he could clearly compete at that level, 5 worse games or not, then he must be have looked like he could hit AAA pitching. If a guy had to put up good numbers and a valid sample size at every level, lots of players would be wasting times at too low of levels. You just have to trust the guys getting paid to do this.
  19. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 12:45 PM) What a play by gordo Those were my favorite kinds of plays to make as a second baseman. If you are fast enough, it is actually a pretty easy play -- but you look awesome doing it
  20. Watch a batting practice. Hitters get themselves out half the time. Five extra base hits in a row is at least in part good luck for Baltimore, no matter how bad the pitcher was
  21. Britton isn't throwing strikes
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 12:34 PM) Well, Quintana absolutely s*** down his leg in the past 5 minutes. I don't like to think of it that way. s***ting down your leg usually entails a ton of walks, wild pitches, etc. Getting hit hard just means you were dumb, usually
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 12:32 PM) He was just cruising along and then BAM. The plight of the pitcher
  24. QUOTE (Reddy @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 10:27 AM) wow. long time. i've only been here for..... 8? 8 years though. that means I was 17 when i started posting here. that's a little crazy really. i was still doing Showchoir in high school at that point. I was embarrassingly even younger than that. And reading even younger than that, then my PARENTS finally let me sign up
  25. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 05:43 AM) You want KW to trade for Justin Smoak?
