Zach Stewart!
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 02:43 PM) I, unlike most, actually think Zach can succeed as a MLB starter. So I am not disappointed with the notion at all. It's pretty clear pushing him into the mop-up role is not one he is going to flourish in right now, so try him in a different role. If he fails at that, then they can put him in Charlotte as a starter. I think Kenny reads my posts. I was suggesting Zach start in the game thread last night.

Hindsight is 20/20
You can't argue with how often he's been able to take the hill. I consider that durable and reliable. I don't expect him to compete for any Cy Young awards, but I think by the end of this deal we'll believe we did the right thing. And Mark Buehrle was my favorite White Sox.

Sox have a change in rotation for Cubs series.
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 11:00 AM) They need to throw in Castro to make that a fair deal Fidel?

Excited to see Zach get a chance. Someone let him know that the Cubs f***ing suck. Maybe the Cubs want Stewart? Stewart for Dempster, fair deal

Big test for Addison here. Game and season situation make this a very difficult yet important save.

In what situation does Zach Stewart pitch? If we score 4 runs this inning?

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 12:04 AM) There's already a minor leaguer that's 80/96 stealing bases this year. That seems like a lot. link or it didn't happen QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 12:08 AM) The more salary they eat they will want one. He's a FA at end of season right? Money can't be a big limiting factor for anyone looking to pick him up

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 12:01 AM) No thanks with regards to trading him I don't WANT to, but it may be the lesser of evils if you say that we must acquire a somewhat big ticket player

QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 17, 2012 -> 12:00 AM) Clearly no to trading Viciedo. I actually dont mind exploring deals with Mitchell and Nate Jones. Nate Jones may be our most expendable piece that actually has a fairly high value

Very close call. I think we got him, but I can't be too pissed since it's a 50/50 call

QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 11:56 PM) Kenny shouldnt care what we say now or in 30 years when he is long gone from the White Sox. He got to be GM of a baseball team that won the World Series. He should be able to laugh off our critisms of him. Problem with those young ones in the minor leagues right now is there really isnt anyone we should be afraid of getting rid of. Maybe Castro. As far as the major league roster I agree except for Nate Jones. Be interesting to see what we could get for him. I don't mean so much that he should care what I say, but JR will certainly be upset if he sees the Cubs or whomever is trading a starting pitcher winning with Dayan Viciedo, Jared Mitchell, Nate Jones, etc. while we have trouble filling those or other positions without spending a good deal of money

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 11:56 PM) Sitting on the bench for better part of a week has to be hard on someone as streaky as he is. Certainly. Hard to read what's up, but looking bad on fastballs has been a common thread even throughout much of his hot streak

Dayan's all out of sorts lately. Getting jammed by pitches ahead in the count, yanking pitches late in the count

I include young players on the MLB roster when I'm making these statements because I'm sure a lot of people are going to be asking DV-Quintana-Jones for a star player

QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 11:48 PM) I think he would trade those prospects away depending on the player. But you can almost feel Kenny itching to make a deal right now. To be honest Kenny shouldnt give 2 cents what anybody on here or the media thinks about his deal. At least thats what a GM should do. It's more about what we're going to say in three years if we trade away an MLB star or two for a half season of Dempster or something like that while we're itching for more young talent. Kenny certainly wants to make a deal, he doesn't like having a flawed team in a pennant race -- but I'm sure last season is fresh in his mind and you don't want to get caught in the same mindset that sets you up for spectacular failure in the future. Some BS trying to replace struggling players this season is acceptable if the stockpile of young players eventually makes this kind of thing not an issue (either having capable replacements in the minors or at least having a deep enough minor league talent to trade away without ruining the system)

I also think it has to be very difficult for KW to make a move until he has more information on the injury status of John Danks.

GT: Chicago White Sox @ LA Dodgers
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 11:42 PM) I think its only a matter of time now before Kenny goes and gets someone. My question is, of course, how does he do that? It will not reflect well upon KW if he trades away one/some of our few promising young players to get a shot at winning a division that will likely require 90 wins or less to make the playoffs. Mortgaging the future is no longer an option, we're not trying to buy into a 1-3 year window anymore.

Something has to be done to improve the rotation
QUOTE (mataipaepae @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 11:10 PM) ??? Ummmmm no! I like de aza. I was saying that to the person that said axelrod is only a AAAA player. The same was said by a few here about de aza too. Axelrod is like de Aza in that neither had been proven to be non-MLB players, but hadn't earned a shot in the MLB without some kind of catastrophe (injury, etc). ADA got his and Axelrod has had a cup of coffee and has put himself in position to be the favorite if we have to have an MLB starter. Not the type of player that pushes a veteran out of the rotation very easily though, just based on his prospect status. If he gets here and produces, no one will talk down about him

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 11:33 PM) Humber had a great 1st half of the year last year. An ERA over 5 after the ASB raised some red flags. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 11:34 PM) He hasnt been able to do that for some time now. I'm all for benching him, but there's no replacement. He lucked out by having Robin trust him and show he could come back and hold them down a couple of innings tonight. He's even luckier that a guy like Axelrod is his only competition at the moment (this is due to Stewart and Santiago being in the bullpen, they were by far our best rotation depth last season). When the competition becomes Quintana, we've got something cooking. It's not for right now. Cooper is going to have to do a little coaching with these right handers and hopefully both can turn it around...but we may only need one to do so. Floyd certainly gets the nod if they keep having similar outings
-
GT: Chicago White Sox @ LA Dodgers
QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 16, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) He shouldnt get another. But I have a feeling he will. At this point I rather see Axelrod. You have to realize that Humber is extremely valuable to the White Sox if he can command his pitches at all. Humber has NOTHING has an outing like this where Axelrod will have everything working and have similar stat lines. Phil had a great year last year and had mystified many by not succeeding sooner. While we John is still hurt and there are no actual prospects in waiting to replace him I don't mind trying one more start to catch lightning in a bottle. It took some real mettle to settle down after that third inning.
