Guys seem to be inspired by the acquisition of Rios.
-
The middle of our lineup sucks right now. That's about all there is to say. They may be coming through once a week when other team's middles are doing s*** every day or every other day
-
Signing Iguchi, it's the deal that I thought really put us 'over the top' for 05, and in fact brought me to this site in December of 04 (when it was just far off rumors that we would sign him)

Oh well. Maybe Alex Rios with his .267/.315/.427 can come save us from our offensive druthers. -

Becks 3 for his last 22. oh no! -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:15 PM) Aubrey Huff doesn't have a .917 OPS. Try .725. He's worse than Rios. Aubrey Huff is also old and slow. Yeah, that was 2 yrs ago. That was my bad for not reading correctly.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 07:11 PM) I think it means at least one of Dye/Thome is gone and that Jenks will be traded in the off-season. No way will the Sox be paying a closer massive bucks, imo. I don't see anyway in which we can trade Jenks. We need more bullpen arms, not less (thought I understand your sentiment). We have nobody in our bullpen that we can really trust for this year or next right now other than Jenks or Thornton.

QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:56 PM) We've tried and failed to get an adequate replacement for Rowand for FOUR seasons now. What part of heavy or lifting don't you understand? Who were we going to get in the offseason that would be better? Center Field is an important defense position. This is a great day for the Sox. You'll come around - trust me. I hope so. I like Rios and I think he plays great defense and its something that we obviously need badly, but we have a ton of holes that need filling this offseason, and I don't know how in hell KW is gonna get any money from JR after spending more than 100 mil this month.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:52 PM) Rios is an elite defensive RF with an elite arm and the 500 innings he spent in CF last year were also among the best in the game. I suspect he'll be a bit better than 'solid' out there for us. Even if I replaced solid with super exceptional sensational it wouldn't change my opinion (and that's fine, I'll give you that). We have too many holes we needed to fill this offseason to being paying a decent hitting, great CF 12 million a year. I can't imagine that he'll save enough runs in CF to make up for the fact that we won't have the cash to get another OF (and leadoff man, hopefully we can afford Pods), 1 or 2 middle relievers, a fifth starter, and what I hoped to be a 2nd baseman.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:50 PM) You remind me of myself and the Pena/B.Allen debacle. Unfortunately, or fortunately I suppose, that didn't cripple our spending for the next several years.
-
QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 10, 2009 -> 06:43 PM) I have also loved nearly all of KW's moves, except the two Swisher moves. I love this move. He gets the offseason heavy lifting done before the offseason. We now have a real CF! I'm lovin' it. What lifting did he get done? Usually we would be bidding for FAs that are coming off of a good year. We're giving 12 million dollars a year to a guy we HOPE and PRAY can get his OPS back to 860 or so. He hasn't been over 800 in a year and a half. I mean, f***, Aubrey Huff has a f***ing .917 OPS this year. Defense is nice and all, but we're talking 12 mil a year for a 830-860 OPS (hopefully) and solid CF defense. I'm sorry but that makes absolutely zero sense to me.
-
I have loved just about every deal that KW has ever done. I hate this move.

How many more starts does Jose get?
jphat007 replied to Kenny Hates Prospects's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There aren't many options unfortunately. Since Kenny made the trade, John, Burly and Jose have all s*** the bed. Not a good formula for winning the division. -
QUOTE (rockren @ Aug 9, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) I'm not throwing in the towel on this game, yet...but I'm extremely disappointed in our staff this week+ *. Fixed
-
I think we've had 1 quality start on this homestand. We're lucky as s*** to go 6-4. If the starting pitching and offense doenst improve a lot very soon, we're gonna have a tough time catching up.
-
He's sucked his last few games. Hopefully he and John pick it up or we'll slowly fade away down the stretch.

Confirmed: White Sox claim on Alex Rios on waivers

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) I think Pods would see plenty of playing time. CQ, Dye, Thome can all sit for a game a week and if Rios sits for 1, thats already for games starting for Pods... Why would you want to sit any of them for a guy hitting 261 with a 315 OBP? We're acting like this guy is a good hitt right now. He's not, not even close. -

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 7, 2009 -> 09:50 PM) f*** Pods. He's the odd man out unless Dead is traded. Sorry, he has been productive; but he's not in the long term plans of this club. And who bats leadoff the rest of this year and next year? Pods has been one of our better f***ing hitters this year. The only reason we are even f***ing sniffing first place. To just throw him out would be the dumbest thing this organization could do after lookin for a leadoff hitter. -

Well, if Mark and John pitch like this down the stretch we've got no shot to hang around. They've just been brutal the last few starts. -
Ah well. If you would've told me we'd be 2 games out tomorrow right at the start of the Tigers series, I think I would've been ok with that.
