  1. Street's velocity was down at times last year. If he's throwing at 88-90 he's not good. If his velocity is back up, I wouldn't mind having him in the pen. As long as his slider that he throws 99.999999% of the time has some umfff on it, he can be effective.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 05:14 PM) Man, I really dont want to trade Jenks at all, but that is a pretty decent haul. That it is. I would be very happy with that.
  3. On the other site, someone posted the Ben Maller was on XM Radio and said that he heard Javy & Jenks were going to the Mets for F.Martinez, Pelfrey, and Murphy.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 04:21 PM) I agree with who said that Pelfrey won't be in the deal. I just can't see the Mets trading a 24 year old SP who posted a 3.8 ERA last year. Plus, he's a Boras client. If that happens, we'd have to get Heilmann, Murphy, and someone else, but the Mets would be robbing us then. I don't understand why Pelfrey being a Boras client would make the Sox not want him. He's not a FA for a while, and the Sox have dealt with pre-FA Boras clients before.
  5. QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 02:38 PM) Because we dumped him. If he showed the same loyalty, and left on his own, we'd be talking Maggs level hate. /just sayin' Perhaps, though Dye has been the classiest of players while with the Sox. There's not one negative thing he's done while here. And I'm sure he would go out with that same class. Maggs on the other hand, left much to be desired with his departure.
  6. I have no problem with Heilman as a RP. Mid 90's FB w/ a tremendous CH. He lacks a 3rd pick to be a SP.
  7. I could see Jennings being a target. If KW can't get Jackson and Davis in the same deal, I could see him asking for one of them and Jennings.
  8. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:27 AM) So explain how acquiring Edwin Jackson selling JD "high" It's not. It would depend on the other piece or two.
  9. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 11:08 AM) Jackson's had MUCH more time to figure things out than Floyd had had at the time. In the Majors, but neither had figured it out. Floyd could have struggled in the majors just the same. He just didn't play for the Devil Rays.
  10. A package of Davis and Jackson seems eerily similar to Floyd and Gio...
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:58 AM) Why has everyone fallen in love with W. Aybar? Didn't we just get Betemit? He's a nice role player to have on a team, but I don't ever envision either Betemit or Aybar getting 300 at-bats with the Sox unless there are major injuries. You're right. If the Sox are trading with the Rays, I don't want to waste value getting Aybar. You take from their glut of pitching, and you run away fast.
  12. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Nov 21, 2008 -> 10:33 AM) Yeah. They want Jermaine Dye and are dangling Carl Crawford to get him. When, Lord? When will people stop ALWAYS bringing up Carl Crawford!?!??! It doesn't make much sense to me either.
  13. If we don't get Wade Davis, I'll be very disappointed.
  14. QUOTE (joeynach @ Nov 20, 2008 -> 06:00 PM) I wouldn't trade fields unless I know im signing Casey Blake or a legit 3B. Wilson Betemit does not do it for me. Whats the point of getting Roberts for 1 year to leave a huge hole at 3B that could be the sox Achilles heel in 09. Well some, like myself, would argue that 2B is a bigger hole than 3B. Betemit > Getz, imo. So if you had to start one, I'd rather it be Betemit. Plus, what Roberts would do to this lineup would be well worth the chance. Not to mention the 2 draft picks at the end of the year.
  15. If the Sox continue to have the same dynamics when Beckham comes up, he'll most likely bat second. However, once Pauly, Jermaine, and Jim are gone, wasting Beckham's power in the 2 spot won't be ideal. And if Kenny constructs the team I think he wants, we'll already have our 1-2 hitters.
  16. There are better pitchers still waiting to get in.
  17. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Nov 19, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) No way we try to get Halladay. It's probably take Danks or Floyd then a couple other guys, and he's a FA after the 2009 year. '09: $14.25 mil '10: $15.75 mil
  18. I've been there the past 2 years. I'll be there this year as well. Trust me, you'll know where to loiter. Last year in Nashville, both MLB.com's tv setup and Baseball Tonight's setup were in the main lobby right outside the room where the press conferences were held. That lobby was fair game. Also, check out the hotel bar around 9-10ish.
  19. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 07:59 PM) Morneau had so many RBI's because he had a ton of opportunities. I believe he was in the top of the league in leaving RISP as well. He had so many RBI's because he was a man child during those opportunities... RISP Morneau: .348/.443/.602 Pedroia: .307/.365/.466 RISP w/2 outs Morneau: .329/.461/.573 Pedroia: .231/.355/.359 Runners On Morneau: .330/.418/.574 Pedroia: .310/.367/.453
  20. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Nov 18, 2008 -> 06:45 PM) Mauer handled the young pitching staff, won a gold glove and a silver slugger. He's more valuable. Where would the Sox have finished without Quentin? Behind the Tigers? First, Mauer does not play GG defense. His ability to block balls in the dirt is poor. I don't need to point out how much of a joke the GG is. Morneau carried that offense. To be able to put up .300-23-129 on a bad offensive team is ridiculous, and shows you exactly just how great Morneau was last season. Also, one of the 5 criteria on the MVP ballot is number of games played, and Morneau appeared in all 163 games. None of the other candidates did that. He's a rock. The AL vote was very crowded, though. You could point out reasons why any of these players should have won. And yes, the Sox would have finished below the Tigers without Quentin, but you don't win the MVP missing a month. I would have definitely put Quentin ahead of Morneau had he played a full season.
  21. Without Morneau, god knows where the Twins would have ended up. Probably behind the Tigers. He's the AL MVP in my mind.
  22. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 04:17 PM) Well, duh. Just like all trades, their effects should be analyzed with hindsight. Well, yes and no. Say we trade Poreda for Ronny Cedeno. Then 5 years from now Poreda is out of baseball, does that make it a good trade? You've got to look at the value given up/gotten at the time of the trade as well.
  23. QUOTE (KevinM @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 12:29 PM) Marquez is a prospect in that he plays minor league baseball, but it'd be foolish to consider him in the same mold as our other famous "failed top prospects" on the roster: Floyd, Danks (to a much lesser extent, though he had his fair share of skeptics), Quentin (who really was more undervalued than anything). He doesn't have that type of talent, and his ceiling at this point is probably that of a swingman. That's true on Marquez. He's no where near the talent of those 3. People look at this trade and expect Marquez to be the "reclamation project" and the key to the deal in KW eyes. I don't think that's the case. I believe Betemit is. Marquez might turn out to be a back end SP, but I think KW is gambling for Betemit and not Marquez.
  24. I'm baffled how David Wright could be so low in any ranking system.
