  1. QUOTE(JuiceCruz16 @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 08:38 PM) His ball handleing looks to be hampered by his hand injury, which has slowed his penetration game down. EJ is probably the best player in the big 11, but I agree DJ is probably the player of the year at this point. Gordon was turning the ball over even before his hand injury. He's the most talented in the conference, but he's not the best player. It's clear that he's still got a lot of learning to do. DJ White is the best player in the conference. He's all around solid.
  2. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) Over Eric Gordon? Mmm, not sure about that. Absolutely. DJ White has been an absolute beast. The Bulls could use him...
  3. QUOTE(JFields27 @ Feb 10, 2008 -> 10:23 AM) If the Dodgers trade Either, LaRoche, and a spect to get Blanton from the A's their interest in Crede would skyrocket They have Nomar who has one year left on his contract as well. Not sure they'd be that interested in Crede.
  4. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 08:48 AM) Get me Crisp, start him in CF and leadoff... put Swish at 1st, Quentin in left, and move pauly for spects. bam bing, this looks better (and assuming Fields eventually hits 6 not 7) CF Crisp SS Cabrera 1B Swisher DH Thome RF Dye C Pierzynski 3B Fields LF Quentin 2B Richar/Uribe/Ramirez than this does SS Cabrera CF Swisher DH Thome RF Dye 1B Konerko C Pierzynski 3B Fields LF Quentin 2B Richar/Uribe/Ramirez I'm confused how switching out Konerko in favor of Crisp makes us better.
  5. I'm in. Countless years. Roto or H2H is fine. I was in leagues 3 and 6 last season. Doesn't matter which league I'm in. Would like to get in a keeper league if available. I'm open to commishing.
  6. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 04:01 PM) So do all of you who think Smith should have been kicked off the team not believe in second chances? You're all a bunch of hypocrites. I will promise you that all of you have been given 2nd chances in your life for messing up. Forget all of you for saying s*** like Smith should be kicked out of school. A 20-year-old kid made a huge mistake, but from what I've gathered he has been a model citizen since it happened. I guarantee you he'd be kicked off the team if so much as a peep is heard from him. He's going to end up doing good by sharing his incident with younger kids for years to come, and helping them stray from drunk driving. I feel very strongly about this, and I can't stand seeing people post all this s*** about Smith like they've never done wrong in their life... Let those throw the first stone who have never sinned. Oh wait, that's none of you. I'm not very familiar with this situation. Did Jamar Smith commit whatever felony while on the team or while being recruited?
  7. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) Which probably could have easily happened considering he was 14 years old. Jamar Smith has absolutely no other record on him. By all other accounts outside of this situation, he has been a good person in his life. But while we are all on our high horses here, and I can't say this for sure, Weber seems like the type of guy to let him back on the team because he knew Jamar Smith well enough to know it was a terrible mistake to make. Keyword being mistake. That's at least the perception I get from Weber. He isn't the slimy type. Whoops. I'm sure Weber planted those people to throw those beads. IU fans threatened UI fans last night as well, some even taken out by security. That's obviously Sampson's fault, right? Pat Forde did mention that on the telecast last night, but this was while he was explaining how the UI fans were throwing stuff at the IU fan section.
  8. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:43 PM) Lying to the national media about death threats is wrong IMO. Probably worse than getting a bead thrown at you. It's not like any of this was a surprise. They knew what they were doing by showing up. I'm curious. I never heard that he lied about them. Link?
  9. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:30 PM) There were IU fans trying to instigate fights too, and had to be taken out by security(and I'm using message board hearsay here, which seems to be the new trend). Gordon Senior or at least his family should not have been there. However I doubt he could help himself being the attention whore that he seemingly is. And again, who cares anymore? It was a wild atmosphere and stuff is being blown way, way, way, way, way out of proportion. He chest bumped the kid! Oh the humanity! It was one game and we'll all likely never see something quite like it. Let's not talk like it's the Gordon family's fault that this stuff happened. They didn't do anything wrong.
  10. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:21 PM) Oh well definitely, but I wonder if the stuff is even thrown in that direction if the Gordon's aren't there, and weren't saying in the paper they'd be there the day before the game. Beads were hitting the fans before Mrs. Gordon got hit with the cup of ice, so it probably was going to happen either way. The IU fans chanting back and wearing the Got Gordon? We do. T-shirts probably wasn't taken in too much jest for the drunk idiots that were throwing crap.
  11. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) I don't really see the point of Gordon Sr. bringing his wife and family with and wearing all black. I usually agree that you can't assume crazy stuff like people throwing things would happen, but it was obvious for a while the crowd last night would have at least some people out of hand, so in this case, I think the Gordons would have been best staying home, their son will have plenty of games for them to go to the next 15 years where they won't have to worry about their own safety due to stupid, crazy college fans in a foul mood. Was he a convicted felon who nearly killed somebody else? (not to mention, that somebody else was his own teammate). Perhaps, but I mean the same stuff was thrown at the IU fan section sitting down there. It wasn't just the Gordon family being hit with stuff.
  12. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 03:06 PM) That was going to happen. Idiot college kids are going to get liquored up and it was just bound to happen. It's obviously not right but a few bad apples(and every freakin fan base has them) shouldn't ruin it for everyone. Sorry, but if you're going to base an entire fan base because some drunk ass holes acted out of line then you should be doing the same for every fan base in the country. I don't agree with the assumption that that was going to happen. Lots of times rivalries occur, but rarely do you ever see stuff thrown at the FAMILY of a player. I agree theyre bad apples, and I don't cast judgment on the entire Illinois fan base, but you don't assume the family of a player is going to be in physical danger by flying objects.
  13. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 02:56 PM) Link? Did you watch the game? ESPN had their cameras on the Gordon family for like 2 minutes straight with security all around them while Jay Bilas and Pat Forde mentioned fans had hit Mrs. Gordon with a cup of ice as well as crumpled up paper cups.
  14. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 02:28 PM) I can and will not ever let it go, a convicted felon should not be on scholarship at a land grant public state university to represent it on a national stage for something like basketball. Ever. I still would like somebody to come up with another convicted felon to play in the Big 10, because it's never happened and is a burden of embarssment Illinois will have to live with forever starting this fall. Yes, Gordon and especially Sampson acted poorly in the whole saga, but that is nothing compared to a school supporting felons to play on it's team. And I find it funny that everybody is so sure Sampson will be gone just because Loren Tate and a few insiders (people full of crap on the illini fan boards) say it is potentially true. Sampson is indeed a scumbag, but the Illini fans made him look like a saint last night. I do agree with you doctor that Indiana would have b****ed over the fan behavior last night though no matter what (although I give credit to the Indiana fans here, only one of them showed up and b****ed like a baby), but the Illini fans lame actions last night gave them reason to do so. I agree with you. To further that, Indiana dropped one of their commits for next season because he was convicted of possession (perhaps selling as well, not sure) of cocaine. Bud Mackey is his name and Rivals rates him as the 35th best overall player in the 2008 class. He was deciding on Kentucky or Indiana, and chose Indiana. Now, it appears he's headed to lowly Cincinnati. I commend Sampson for pulling his scholarship. It would have been easy to just say, he deserves a second chance, and netted the #35 best player in the country, but he didn't.
  15. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 11:59 AM) Are you serious? If you don't think this is a historically bad Big 10, your not watching the games. I won't even argue this point because it's a waste of time and not even close. And the reason 4 teams can win the league is a point to my argument, since (a) there isn't one or two clubs that are really good and (B) There are 7 teams that completely suck and can barely win games behind the top 4. I mean, I've seen you make some asinine arguments but this is right up there. I'd have to agree with this. The bottom teams in the conference are horrendous. Iowa, Michigan, NW, PSU, Illinois all suck. That's what makes the Big Ten down this season. Then you have Purdue, Minnesota, OSU, and IU who are young teams. Perhaps near the end of the season when these teams age and gain experience the Big Ten will be up, but right now, it's just not very good overall.
  16. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Feb 8, 2008 -> 10:06 AM) Maybe, but Forde's article also didn't let the Indiana fans off the hook talking about when Sean May came back to Bloomington. I see nothing wrong with what the fans did until they started throwing things at the Gordons and the Hoosier fans. That's overboard. But chanting? Come on...these guys hear worse on the playgrounds then "Liar" and "Cheater." In fact, they say worse to each other when talking smack. I think it was the "f*** you Gordon" chants.
  17. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:59 PM) Exactly. Glad to see there's a logical fan out there, even if he is a Wisconsin fan But seriously, Illinois is in a hell of a down year, but they'll be back on top in a couple years like you said. The future is bright, Illini fans. Don't be so upset. Oh, and as for this being the "super bowl" for Illinois. I agree that it was for the fans b/c of the Gordon saga, but as for the players, I don't think they see it that way. I don't know. From Chester's pre-game chest bump to the tall whitey C saying the Gordon situation angered him to the Weber/Sampson hatred to the pushing and shoving, the Illinois players wanted this game baaaaaaaad. Not sure you can point to another game on the schedule that they would want more.
  18. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:31 PM) Agreed, but he's still a top 10 lock pick, and the odds say more than likely, almost for sure, he will go pro. But I think he needs another year too, he's proven at times this year to be a bit mentally weak, not a good thing to be saddled with heading into the league. Keep in mind though he's playing with a hairline fracture in his left wrist that Indiana won't admit exists, so that is hidering his play (he may be a bit mentally weak, but not at all physically). I don't think he's mentally weak. He's just doesn't have the highest basketball IQ. He still plays like this is high school where he can take it to the hole anytime he wants. His TO are way up because of it, and he take a bunch of bad shots. If he were to stay another year, there's not doubt he could be the top college player in the nation. A smarter, more under control Gordon would be scary good.
  19. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 11:05 PM) You didn't think you'd beat a bad team? I know it was the Illini's Super Bowl, but their still bad. The problem tonight is Indiana really isn't that great a team, their just a decent team with 2 great players taking advantage of a horrid league. If the Illini played the way they do against Indiana, every game out, they certainly would be much better than their record shows. Illinois always plays up against Indiana. It's one of those throw the records out the window, match ups. You don't get a more hostile atmosphere than tonight. It's anything but easy to play in. Indiana actually played very well in the 2nd half, and so did Illinois. These weren't two bad teams hacking their way through the game. If UI doesn't get 35 pts or whatever he had, this game is a blow out. Illinois certainly played very well today. Nothing indicative of their record. And it wasn't anything IU could do about it. Illinois was just shooting lights out.
  20. This is UI's Superbowl. This shouldn't be a surprise that it's a good game. To bad they can't play up against every team like they do IU.
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 7, 2008 -> 12:58 AM) Well then the players that are drafted within the next 3 years come into play; it's not like KW went out and added ten 35 year olds to the roster. He's put together a very good core of players that will hopefully be around for a while and will produce quite well. Which makes this year's draft extremely important for the direction this organization goes in a few seasons.
  22. QUOTE(Vance Law @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) This I don't get at all. I like that Hawk is a unique original character who has his own voice, lingo, and manner of speaking. I don't hear that anywhere else. Every other announcer I hear is a generic, flavorless broadcasTOR dronebot with broadcasTOR voice. Also, John Miller on ESPN screaming "ssaaaafe!!" on a close play, using that fake umpire voice is the worst thing in baseball since Vince Coleman got caught by the tarp machine. It's like listening to Shaq talk. It's unique, but there's just not much energy in his voice. He's not the most colorful guy and DJ is certainly not the most colorful guy either. It's just flat. Very very flat.
  23. Hawk makes the games less exciting. Zzzzz...As far as tone, personality, and commentary DJ and Hawk have to be one of the most boring duos in baseball. I pity those fans who has worse. Hawk might be Sox baseball, but he also detracts people from watching or listening. I mean, look how many die hard Sox fans here dislike him. I can't imagine common viewers would like him. At least Hughes keeps Santo in check. DJ is not capable of this, and at times the broadcast is just unbearable. Hawk is fine in small bits, but listening to him for 3 hours is painful at times. Why Stone is not in the Sox booth is beyond me. He is far more interesting and far more objective. At least to me...
  24. QUOTE(beck72 @ Feb 6, 2008 -> 06:03 AM) Adding Lowry at the cost of Crede, IMO would be a decent upgrade to the pitching staff-both the bullpen and starting staff. It would give the sox another legit starter to compete with Danks and Floyd. At worst Lowry may be a bullpen guy, if Floyd and Danks throw well in Spring. And the odd man out could throw from the pen--though Danks would be in AAA to get innings in. But I'm not convinced the sox are set at SP with Broadway and Egbert the top options in AAA in case either Floyd or Danks do poorly. That's pretty much my thinking. I'd rather give Floyd and Danks the experience, but I think it's unlikely that we'll see them make more than 25-26 starts each. Basically, we'll have roughly 15 starts (DL time included) come from someone outside of the rotation, and I would feel much better if that was coming from an experienced SP rather than one of our fringy prospects. If we want to make a run at the playoffs, I think that's a necessity.
