Is Noah Schultz really not on the BP 101?

I would like to see their breakdown of position players to pitchers in their top 101, but my guess is they have probably aligned hard against especially younger pitching prospects.

  2. Because I am a man of the people and I am hiding in this thread because the white sox are too painful

    Dane Bruglers mock is out.

The painful? AFter the bears take Caleb Williams 1.1, Marvin Harrison, Malik Nabers, Brock Bowers and Rome Odunze go 3, 4, 5, 6.

He has the bears taking Dallas Turner at 9. I think this will be a popular pick in mock drafters. I personally believe there is zero chance it happens at 9.

If this is the board, either we take Fashanu/Alt (Fashanu is available in this case), or we trade back and get more capital. I don't see much of a difference between Turner/Latu/Verse in draft grades. I'd rather take Fashanu or trade back and take Brian Thomas (he is taken 17th).

Other things of note: Jer'Zhan newton goes 28th, so he may be not the top ten rumor people had of him.

Penix went 44th, McCarthy top 20.

    Ladd McConkey went mid-2nd.

Personally, I'd be ok if we somehow got a 2nd, found that Tee Higgins became available, and drafted McConkey.

Having 2 vet wideouts with a route master like McConkey as a slot would be perfect for a vet QB.

  3. I wonder if we are about to enter a new trend for hiring in the NFL. The overwhelming strength of this coaching cycle is defensive coaches. Belicheck, Vrabel, Quinn, Flores all are guys with previous HC experience and successful at that. Add to that Mike McDonald may be the hottest DC candidate in a while. Raheem Morris has been extremely deserving of another stint for years.

Meanwhile, this year we see a whole lot more creativity in defensive fronts stifling offenses. Whereas we had a 5 year run of "get an offensive mind and have them run a 2-high shell defense", Flores and McDonald have shown much more adaptability in schemes that offenses have failed to counter.

Defensive coaches in  Demeco Ryans, Bowles and Gannon all were successful in finding strong OC candidates, to the point that maybe there has been enough training under Shanahan and McVay systems proliferating, that maybe the set-up of "grab one of these strong defensive minds and have them run a version of the shanahan WCO" will work much better than when the Reid/Shanahan/McVay offenses were destroying the league and defensive coaches were struggling to find personnel to run modern offenses.

I mean look where you can grab from now. Zac Taylor looked like he was all fluff until this year behind a backup QB they were still dominating on offense. Now his OC is getting HC looks. Tampa has a hot offense under Dave Canales. Baltimore has a hot offense with Todd Monken. Seattle has built out a strong offense that has disciples flourishing. San Fran and LA obviously. Buffalo has a strong offense with offensive minds to pull from.

There is now more than one way to bake this cake, and a heck of a lot more experience from defensive coaches than the offensive ones.

The speculation about the severity of Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield’s injured shoulder just amped up to another level. FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer reports that Mayfield has a fractured humerus bone in his left arm in addition to the torn labrum on the left (non-throwing) shoulder.

Last season they finished so sharp, they were just scoring at will and the defense was swarming.  This season every time I saw highlights in the last 6 games all I saw was Hurts looking unsure of himself and the defense getting lit up

Not sure I've ever seen a coach more propped up by their coordinators, absolutely wild.

Would be extremely funny to see Brian Johnson still get the Panthers job lol.

What an embarrassing performance from Philly.

I shared the experience of others asking for examples of a collapse this strong before...and what I found funny was responses of just how many similar examples there were that I completely forgot. Boy...did I not really remember the cardinals being 10-1 and finishing 11-6 and losing first round. Turns out it was...3 years ago ha.

Not me. Just read the reports out of Pittsburgh. Did you see the press conference with Tomlin?

I think it would be extremely interesting to see what a Tomlin staff looks like outside of Pit. The nice thing about the pittsburgh job is they are probably 1.1 (maybe just ahead of the packers) of the entire org creating an environment for the coaches and players to succeed. They don't ask for a herculean job of one person creating the whole football operation like the bears often do.

But it has also meant being very conservative with coaching changes and he inherited a lot. He's been super loyal. If he starts fresh...does he get pick of the litter of coordinators who are that tier of very good coordinators but unlikely HC material going to probably one of the most stable HCs around?

I still think he's a great coach. I don't know how many other coaches could get a winning team out of 2023 Mitch/Pickett and Rudolph, and add to that their oline just has not found the answers in years.

If Atlanta believes Williams/Maye/Daniels will all be off the board by their pick (which is likely), and their sights are on QB maybe it’s worth it to them to weigh the options. Especially if they know other teams may be interested in Fields later in the 1st round

Still…it seems far fetched. Their GM passed on Fields once. Their coach is not yet hired. Pittsburgh I could see.

  9. 1, 8, 9 would be dreaming. Among other things, it may allow you to take a top 3 receiver, but at 11, 12, 13 are the Vikings, Broncos and Raiders. All would be prime trade up candidates to get QB3 or QB4.

Trade back, get additional picks, and get what is still possibly strong edge territory or beef up that oline with a JC latham.

BUT, I don't think it happens. I think pittsburgh is much more likely to give up a first than the falcons.

If Caleb’s dad was as bad as described something would have come out from legit USC sources. His dad pushed him and has pushed him and clearly is involved but so far he isn’t Lavar. That isn’t to say he can’t be - but he wasn’t a pain around USC and if he was it was swept under the rug.

People have all been very angry about things that I haven’t even seen actual clips or original articles for. Lavar ball was on tv every damn day in front of a microphone.

  11. I had been looking forward to the playoffs as I thought it would throw some cold water over the romanticism over building “complete teams” with average QBs. The Tennessee titans of yore looked amazing in regular season.

But unless you have created an all time defense or all time whatever shanahan / lynch have done, the other team you’ll face is also super talented and the QB will always be the wild card.

Its why you should be bullish on AFC teams in the Super Bowl.

  12. I do agree with Parkins that if you are a fan in the 300 level, the idea that you knew his widow was there is kinda ridiculous. Should you boo? No. Personally I’m a Krause fan and yes, it was all JRs fault because of his sick view of management v labor.

But how you can work for the bulls putting this together and NOT realize there would be boos is ridiculous. Last dance didn’t create this animosity, the idea that Krause broke up the bulls because he thought he was smarter than everyone was absolute canon.

Ok so if we can agree that the pool is all unemployed, non-playcalling OCs, and positions underneath OCs, I think, I think my ranking would be :
    1. Shane Waldron (comes from McVay, should be fine with Chris Morgan, excellent work at Seattle)
    2. Eric Bienemy (Downside is he if he is like Nagy, he runs inside zone and Nagy preferred Beef. Not sure what Bienemy did, but he was the one who really started to create a run game post-Nagy)
    3. Ken Dorsey - just extremely like the bills offense that he had put together. THey had no run game under Daboll, he put a lot of work together that saw fruition this year despite the turnovers. Yes...that team is mostly Allen though.

    4. Liem Cohen - Playcaller at UK who has twice worked under McVay as QB coach and passing coordinator. Worked with Levis in his best year.
    5. Zac Robinson - McVay QB coach and Passing Game Coordinator, worked under both Cohen and Mike LaFleur
    6. Mike LaFleur - docked for his time in NYJ...but that may make him the perfect get. He also is probably most likely to take this to jumpstart his career again. While work with Wilson wasn't inspiring...Zach Wilson sucks.
    7. Brian Callahan - Skeptical he'd take this, but I gained a lot of respect for Bengals this year. Crazy SoS, and the thought was always that Zac Taylor was a weak coach and burrow transformed them. That offense was humming with Browning still.
    8. Darrell Bevell - HC era seems to have passed him by, but 2 years under McDaniel and extensive career seems perfect. Honestly seems like a Daboll situation.
    9. Chris Foerster - OL/Run Game Coordinator for 49ers. Could likely bring a strong QB coach/passing game coordinator, but a pairing of OL coaches could be great option.
    10. Arthur Smith - I just remembered again late that he is here but probably top 4. Didn't have it as HC but prior to this year had a very efficient offense. How he gets his hand in choosing a top QB which he lacked in ATL.
    10. Greg Olson (discussed)
    11. Kliff Kingsbury - Didn't like his air raid nfl offense, but a year under Riley may bring some exciting wrinkles. Paired with a good Run Game coordinator could be interesting.
    12. Klint Kubiak - didn't love his offense at all in MN, but now he's seasoned under shanahan. If you can tell, I prefer the McVay tree to the shanahan tree

The good news here, though I don't think 1-2 , 7 or 10 are feasible, is these are actually damn good hires. Anyone on this list I'd say...we got better. Olson probably most controversial.

One thing that sucks is I really want to put Byron Leftwich. I love that Arians offense. Maybe you interview him and he has a good discussion on why it didn't work. While last year with Brady was disappointing, this year showed that the offense still had lots of skill talent and the oline was in shambles the year prior. Hope he gets another shot, makes me nervous here.

Totally ok with Jerrod Johnson but makes me nervous as he only has 2 years really in coaching.

Pep Hamilton is an ok candidate, just outside my fringe. Like Olson - really never had great talent.

Also still intrigued on Mike Kafka. Doesn't have playcalling. This year was a mess but ...rebounded. That OL regressed and clearly had a bad OL coach which is never a good look on the OC but when Daboll is running it, who knows.

Waldron, Coen, and Kibiak so far
