QUOTE(DePloderer @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 08:39 PM) Currently I am engrossed in the world of Tom Waits. Just replaced all my old vinyl stuff for CD (took a job lot of a mate). This led me to buy some stuff I hadn't heard before; I listened to Bone Machine while running today, I don't know where the time went, this album has to be one of his best, absolutely overpowering. oooh god i love tom waits. Swordfishtrombones or rain dogs is probably my favorite. He's been so remarkably consistent it's ridiculous. I'd love to have vinyls of his stuff.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 04:44 AM) Speaking of which, at my Poker Game last Thursday Night we were listening to What's the Story Morning Glory by Oasis? Still gotta be one of the best albums of its time. it wasn't even as good as their debut... but oh man, get a british guy started on the britpop era and their heart melts... in response to mr. genius, i want to see melt banana badly, and boris, and acid mothers temple...and damo suzuki's band, but they aren't comin to columbia...
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 19, 2006 -> 03:10 AM) angel dust and king for a day are excellent albums. also, i like the track patton did with melt banana. you know melt banana?!!?!?

i just finished watching requiem for a dream and now i'm shaking. I've yet to finish and Aranofski film without being shaken at the end. That said he sets up his shots soo f***ing beautifully. Contrasts colors so wonderfully from the beginning of the film to the end. ANd forces you to take in the reality of the situation. The mother was brilliant. Everyone did a brilliant job.

do we have any criterion collection nerds here? Usually every criterion i pick up is awesome...its quite amazing how good they are at picking which movies get the treatment.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 10:14 PM) I have never understood the obssesion with Faith No More or Patton. People still talk about both like the record dropped just yesterday. i find people have a pretty strong sentimentality with most of the bands of the late 80's early 90's that said i was never a big faith no more fan but some of pattons later stuff has been really good. Especially tomahawk.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 18, 2006 -> 07:19 PM) Ween's stuff ever is painfully bad. Local H is 1000x better than Ween can dream of being. Opinion, of course. Well, actually, this one is fact.... i quite enjoy some of their midnineties stuff...

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 11:55 PM) 11 people killed along with a high number of injuries during a protest at an Italian embassy in Lybia. the bottomest, rightest made me die laughing.
-
ween's recent stuff...like past 7 years actually is painfully bad.
-
QUOTE(mr_genius @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 11:33 PM) did he give up on Tomahawk already? no their 3rd is coming... this is the article from tinymixtapes.com
-
anyway...so mike patton's solo is going to be pretty epic, eh?

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 09:18 PM) confession: I like the last The Strokes disc. i don't believe you. I loved the strokes but first impressions of earth is the biggest tripe i've ever heard! i can stand the first 3 tracks and it gets exponentially worse its quite astounding how conistently bad it got from track to track.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 04:52 PM) Are we still b****ing and moaning, people? :headshake Dukenukem ain't even involved this time, but people are trying to fill his void. "Street Fighting Man" is the suck? Ooooookay. Either get your ears examined, or keep such bulls*** to yourself. This is all personal preference anyways, and it's supposed to be fun. I can't stand Rod Stewart, but was I talking s*** about The Faces? No, of course not. I'm a huge Bob Dylan fan, but do you see me uttering some elitist nonsense? Nope. street fighting man is the suck though.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 09:21 AM) The original All Along the Watchtower? ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
-
QUOTE(knightni @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 07:08 AM) Well... it certainly shouldn't include the folk icon that you use as a SN here. Like a rolling stone had electric guitars and WHEN WE ASKED what "classic rock" meant whoever started this thread said any song between 1950-1980...so we took the best somewhat "rock" songs from that era and voila...the best pop songs ever. Damn shame god only knows didn't make it as it is clearly the greatest song ever people are just silly and not willing to recognise it as such. YOU CAN'T REFUSE THAT MELODY.
-
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 04:47 AM) Over. Don't forget we'll still have the commentary after Whittington is released from the hospital, as well as the stories which include some variation of "his life will never be the same," or "activites such as hunting will no longer be possible with his heart condition." and the fact that i still laugh when i hear "cheney shot a man in the face"

QUOTE(Yoda @ Feb 17, 2006 -> 12:26 AM) After this round, as you can probably tell, there will be 3 winners, an odd number. So, to make things even, a losing song with the highest votes will be back for the semifinals. Section 1. While My Guitar Gently Weeps - The Beatles vs. Like A Rolling Stone - Bob Dylan All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix vs. Baba O'Reilly - The Who Section 2. Street Fighting Man - The Rolling Stones vs. A Day in the Life - The Beatles street fightin man is pretty suck... i was a straight ticket voter. Like a rolling stone is very worthy.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) You quoted the article, not Hillary. Newsday is a tabloid paper. yeah, that was my point...that the article's first sentence sets the tone that it is bulls***.
-
QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 10:20 PM) Only problem with that is that in your twisted little world the US is the root of all evil in the world and you use any opportunity you can grasp to try and make that point. i think the reality is it is your twisted little world that because we criticise the administration we think the US is the root of all evil.
-
i'm so pissed. i should have done a Wire song just for cool points.

QUOTE(mreye @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) It said "Vast West Wing Conspiracy" and she wasn't quoted in the article. Reading the article, I didn't actually think she said those words, nor did the author say she did. Am I missing something? you are correct on the west... however quote " Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton thinks White House delays in disclosing Dick Cheney's shotgun mishap are evidence of a vast West Wing conspiracy to stonewall journalists and voters. " Sen Hillary Rodham clinton THINKS...ARE EVIDENCE OF A VAST WEST WING CONSPIRACY and for the record...what she said is right. This has been the most secretive administration in my lifetime.
-
that seemed like a real objective article. that was so ridiculous it seems fake. IF they are gonna claim she says it was part of the vast right wing conspiracy, quote her. It seemed like she said what the media, citizens and fellow politicians have been saying...why was there so much delay. This article seemed like utter bulls***.
