QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 07:04 PM) Very good swing by PK. The ball is absolutely flying out of the park. As my mlb.tv continues to hate me I have to watch this through gameday. Nice to see Pauly go yard to right center though. -

QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 11:47 AM) Didn't he do the AL Division series? He did the NLCS for sure. He's Much better then Buck and friends.

There isn't a show on the score that I like. They all suck imo.

Flash, it seems that you'd rather be in the Twins situation then ours which I just don't understand at all.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 10:20 AM) Do the Twins have any plans of moving him to the rotation this year? I thought it was quite odd that they have him in the pen and Baker in the rotation. I've got him stashed on my fantasy team and hoping he'll be in the rotation soon. I think he'll be in the rotation before the all start break. The plan was to nurse him along like they did with Johan but Liriano is just too darn good and he's ready to go. I'd be pretty surprised if he's not in the rotation pretty soon.

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 07:47 AM) Guys, a pitcher with that low a K/9 total over an entire season/career is not going to be able to sustain an elite ERA or WHIP. Really, this is elementary statistical analysis. He was 37th in qualified pitchers in the AL in K/9 in 2005, yet he had one of the lowest ERAs. That, my friends, is a fluke. A greater percentage of balls he throws are put into play than other pitchers. It's not about the defense doing things for you. It's about the fact that when balls are put into play, things like hits and runs tend to happen slightly more often than when a pitcher strikes a hitter out. When things like hits and runs happen slightly more, your ERA and WHIP tends to suffer. Jon is and always will be a very serviceable 4/5 starter, occasionally when he's really on (like last year) he's a 3. He will probably end up this season with 14-16 wins and an era between 4.2 and 4.4. Those are extremely realistic projections based on his career numbers. They are also just fine for what this team needs from him. Garland is a sinkerballer, he wants guys to put the ball in play. The end.

QUOTE(qwerty @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) Well at least i have never changed my opinion... Ha, I'd knew you'd chime in. I have no problem with people like you who have never liked him(though I obviously disagree) but all the sudden it seems like everyone here hates the guy. Whatever though, each to his own.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 11:35 PM) http://www.kcrg.com F3 is the rating I saw on the NWS site, could be wrong, but the campus got hit. Town looks f***ed up. Bah, s***. I got a ton of friends at Iowa, hopefully everyone is ok.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 11:09 PM) It works, even though it's wrong. Name me 1 thing Pods can do that Freel can't? It doesn't exist, although Freel can play 6 different positions better than Pods can play 1, draws more walks, and steals at just as high a percentage as Pods. The Pods love here is pretty fun, he did a great job as the leadoff man for us last year, but he's a really fast guy (when healthy anyways) who creates havoc when he gets on base. That's all. Pods love?? He has become one of the more hated guys on this site. The funny thing is how hated he has become among most people on here.
-
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 09:17 PM) I guarantee you we would not have gone all the way last year without Pods, anyway, shape, or form. Bingo, the end.

QUOTE(Shingotime!! @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 10:37 PM) I believe Lilly pitched today. He did. Burnett is pitching on saturday not Lilly.
-
QUOTE(Sam @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) Exactly, he choked with the Knights. It's not that he choked, he's just not good at that level of competition. It's really that simple.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan99 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:33 PM) He stated in his post that he would have traded Garland to bolster the bullpen. How does that result in our bullpen being shot? To be honest, I don't think we could have got a better bullpen arm than what Brandon is going to do for us.

And all the sudden we're only one game out of first place.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) I really dont think they made a bad call with Howry, I dont its possible for him to do what he did last year, but it doesnt change how important he was to them last year. Riske was also pretty underrated as well. They are going to need to mash, because there staff isnt looking that strong right now. I think if Big mouth stays healthy he's going to be the same guy as last year to be honest. I've seen him pitch a few times this year and he's still just nailing that outside corner like it's nothing with his heater.

This guy coming in for the Tribe Maybe the best picture ever.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 08:22 PM) I know this Cabrerra is supposed to be the closer of the future, but he has NOT been impressive so far. Already has two walks in the ninth. Their bpen hasn't been very impressive as of yet. Mota impressed the hell out of me that game against us but hasn't looked that good since. Their bpen is what helped them go nuts last year, I just don't see it being very good this year.

5 inning, 0 runs, 4 hits, 0 walks, 2 k's for lummy today.

A Diamond in the Rough? The Thornton Thread
Rowand44 replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I didn't get to see him pitch but from the sounds of it he looked very good. I said this in the gamethread but one of the better stats of the day is he threw 22 pitches and 19 of them were strikes. I did see that breaking ball he threw to end the game(sportscenter) and I hope he uses that pitch more often, it wasn't a huge breaker but it was a quick-sharp breaker. If he can mix that in with his fastball he might just be pretty effective.
