QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) if you remember following the 04 World Series, the ESPN panel was given a quick oppurtunity to say who they thought would win the World Series in 05 and Peter Gammons called on the White Sox as the favorites. He more or less said that as a joke but I do remember what you're talking about.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) Yup -- my fall from basketball greatness is almost like Sammy Sosa's... Well...no one can take away the fact that you will always be the intercontinental champion. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) And held my hand up running down the court. Probably looked like an idiot, as we were down by 20, but I didn't care -- it's all about me, baby. I wouldn't expect anything less from you. -

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 10:10 PM) I had the "honor" of playing against McNeal (twice), as Hillcrest was in the SICA, the conference my high school (Oak Forest) is in. They played this 1-3-1 trap that absolutely ate teams alive. They also had another D1 player, Maurice Acker (Ball State). Those two were amazing... The only thing I can say about McNeal is that he isn't a great shooter. He's quick as hell, however, on the one-two dribble move to the basket, and he can also pull up and hit the jumper. And, as you guys have already seen, he's quite the defender. I don't know if he'll ever be able to shoot well enough to be like Mr. Wade, but I'm rooting for him. He was a really nice guy, on top of being the second best high school player I've ever seen live (Julian Wright gets the #1 honor). Shouldn't playing be in quotations as well considering you were on the bench. -

QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 10:01 PM) Speaking of Marquette, I'm in love with their freshmen backcourt, those guys are going to be something very special. I'm watching McNeal especially closely, as he's reminding me of a young certain somebody that used to play for Marquette. Travis Diener? -

Marquette with a big, big W and they've all but punched their ticket to the tourny. -

Marquette up 7 in Milwaukee against gtown with around 9 to go. This win might be the W that puts Marquette in the tourny. They have a very solid rpi and with wins over UCONN and gtown they should have no problem getting in, barring a collapse of course. -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Feb 14, 2006 -> 03:43 PM) They gave out the Loaiza bobblehead after they had traded him for Contreras, right? Haha. Ya they did, it was one hell of a nice bobblehead too. To bad he was gone.

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:48 PM) You know what I meant. Actually, I don't. Ozzie has always spoke his mind, it's not like he just started after we won the series. -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) Thats beside the point, and I completely understand what your saying about Alex Rodriguez in your previous post, on top of the fact that I agree with what Ozzie is saying here. It's just interesting that these remarks weren't made in the past, or i suppose its possible that he did make them, and nobody gave him the light of day prior to winning the Series... Considering his comments had to do with arod's involvement in the wbc it might have been hard for him to make. -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:40 PM) He's taking full advantage of his new celebrity status; i just can't imagine anybody caring if Timo Perez said this, two similar players in terms of how terrible they are/were at the sport. Ok, but you basically said that Ozzie has no right to call out arod cause arod was a much better player. -

QUOTE(redandwhite @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) Well said. I don't quite understand how Ozzie Guillen, a career '.264-.287-.338' player, has the right to say these things, regardless of how much i dislike Rodriguez. I have no clue how their playing careers have any thing to do with what Ozzie said. -
QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 04:16 PM) I would say 5 Dye 6 AJP 7 Iguchi And you got a winner. The L-R-L scheme is a little overrated, but I personally am a fan of it. Doing so will put the other manager to a tougher decision of whether to use a LH reliever for just 1 lefty, or for multiple lefties. In using a RHP out of the pen, he then has to worry about the lefty whenever he comes up, thus having a good balance of lefties and righties in the lineup is a nice thing to have. Therefore, I like AJP splitting up our right handed bats in the middle of the order and creating a nice change of pace hitter, if you will. I like Iguchi hitting 7th because he is a pretty good hitter period, and his average from last year really doesn't do him justice. Hitting behind Podsednik did a damper on his average and OBP, what with the sac bunts and hitting behind the runner to get him over, along with cutting down on his swing a lot more than he would like to. Given that he can swing a bit more freely now, along with a year under his belt having seen MLB pitching, I think he's in line for a big year. And Dye is a straight up good 5 hitter...solid hitter for average, good slugging, and an increased homer production due to the wind out to LF. I'd like Gooch to hit in front of aj just cause it'd give us more options. That's a pretty damn good hit and run combo with aj being a good contact hitter and tad with some decent speed.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 03:24 PM) Well said Zoom, G'Town's backcourt IMO is the only reason they won't make the final 4. If they were more consistent, I'd say definite Final 4 material. As for WVU, I just don't trust a team that reliant on perimeter shooting. Ha, we've had this gtown convo before. Yes, as of now their guards are their achilles heel but a team that plays the type of defense they do, along with not turning the ball over much and having a stud in Brandon Bowman has one hell of a shot to make it to Indy. Obviously jmo. -

These comments always come at interesting times to say the least. Instead of the media putting the pressure back on us by talking up how we have to repeat, making us favorites or whatever, they're now talking about Ozzie. Maybe I'm giving Ozzie to much credit but it really wouldn't surprise me at all if he does this stuff to get the spotlight off the team. -
QUOTE(Felix @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 03:19 PM) IIRC, either Ozzie or Kenny said at SoxFest that Brian would bat 8th and Crede would bat 9th. Incorrect. There was an article that claimed that but ozzie said the exact opposite.
-
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 12:05 PM) Assuming Anderson is in the lineup...he's supposedly hitting 8th. According to? Ozzie has said plenty of times that Brian will bat 9th.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 16, 2006 -> 02:51 PM) I think UConn and Villanova will definitely be there, but it would take a hell of a favorable bracket for any other Big East teams to get there. But hey, you never know this year. Gtown has a very good shot imo. -
