  1. Honestly, I have no idea........ all of the moves with Winston lately have confused the heck out of me. I know how it works in Birmingham and if it is the same, then the math isn't adding up... NO wild goose chase, I promise......
  2. Yep, Bmac will start Wednesday night in Mobile..... he chose not to throw an inning or two this weekend, preferring to go into the playoffs completely fresh. That is not an exact quote, but basically what Juan Nieves said on the broadcast the other night.

Isn't it obvious that Pedro is an exception? It is as simple as the numbers. If you had a high number of #1 starters (starters period) built like Pedro then he wouldn't be an exception, now would he?
  4. I said you guys could have til tomorrow........ noon at the latest, but tomorrow nonetheless.....

what sucked about an infield hit, a ball chopped into the ground that went over the 1B head and a simple single to right??
  6. Wilson Valdez was called up today....... it will change soon enough.

let's talk modern day and slight........ Gio is what, 5'9" 170??? With Hudson I was saying that at 6'1" he doesn't really qualify in my mind as being real small. Pedro is the obvious exception, but I doubt you will find many others..
  8. You're halfway there!
  9. Let's put it this way.......... regardless of who the starter is (let's assume it is not Jose Valentin), I think the Sox would be a better club and more able to compete for a playoff spot with Uribe as a utility guy. I might be wrong, but that is my gut feeling.
  10. still all guesswork......... rosters on milb.com are iffy. Brice will be on Birmingham's roster tomorrow. If you guys are good, you'll find out what the roster limits are and what moves have been and will be made. Let's see what you got!
  11. Yes and no......... it is mostly that he has no strength and can barely get the ball out of the infield.
  12. He started the year in Winston........ his first appearance was on July 15...... he has had only 10 appearances the whole year...... i gotta think they are going to deactivate him or even Shaffer........ again, I'd like to hear the details from Winston on what they can and cannot do with the roster for the playoffs........
  13. I, for one, am not convinced Uribe is an everyday player...... I think the club would be stronger if Uribe played the utility role and got extensive time playing all three infield positions.
  14. How long has he been there?
  15. That's my point........... W-S has added Nanita, Hernandez and at least one other guy, just this weekend....... and who the hell is Garcia?? Is he new also?
  16. dan or jason, can you get with your contacts in Winston and find out what the hell is going on with their roster? how many players can they carry in the playoffs? They added at least 3 players this weekend, and I didn't see any corresponding moves...... Can you find out what all moves have been made in the last week or two?
  17. a mere formality

Funny you mentioned him........ Parque is the pitcher Gonzalez was compared to as far as stuff. Size probably had something to do with it, but Parque is the comparison I was given.

How many little guys do you see as #1's in the big leagues?? Hudson is the only one I can think of, and he is 6'1" and athletic enough that he was a CF in college.

Frame/size mostly...... I know there are exceptions, but I am not willing to bet my house on it....

no one said there was any shame in it.......... just stating the facts. From what I have told, Gio does not have #1 potential...... likely scenario, #3-#5.... best case, #2.....
  22. You may be right in that Ozzie may not want Harris around next year........ if that is the case, then I think they are giving up on him too soon, but I am not there everyday, so I can't say for sure....... But if they are giving up on him right away, it is a shame they traded Miles instead of Willie. I do believe Miles would have helped this year. I am not saying he is the solution for the next 5 years, but despite not having the sexiest stats, Miles is the kind of player a manager loves to have on his team. He plays hard and does the little things a manager loves.

and what is Mark?? a true #1? don't think so...... is he even a #2 on a WS team? perhaps not...... still a very solid pither, but not your true ace by any means......
  24. How can you say with a straight face that Jose is better than Omar defensively??

There are very few #1's or #2's coming up through the minors. Each organization would be lucky to have more than one in their system at any time. Even with a guy like McCarthy who has done very well to this point, it is too early to determine where he will end up. Keep in mind that most every #3, 4 and 5 in the big leagues were very good minor leaguers. Just because a pitcher is the best in the system or has a good year or two doesn't make him a #1 or #2. My guess is the Sox have no #1's at this point and only McCarthy is potentially a #2.
