  1. First of all, the NY Post is considered more of a tabloid than a respected newspaper so consider the source. That said, I see nothing wrong with this article. It is nothing different than 75% of the threads started on this board. Why can the majority of people on this board bash the Sox, their lack of offseason moves and say we are going to suck, yet an article can't write a line like this? Ordonez is due $14 million in the final year of his contract, and with the White Sox not expected to be a strong team in 2004, he could very well be on the block this season.
  2. The problem is, Koch was brought in to give the Sox a shot at the WS last year. Even if he bounces back this year, if the Sox don't make the playoffs, this trade has to be seen as a failure based on its original intention, regardless of what Cotts does.
  3. If that trade were made, KW could get arrested for the steal of the century. It would be (again IT WONT HAPPEN) so one-sided that it's not funny, in FAVOR of the Sox.
  4. Jeremy is simply " a baseball player". Call him a grinder, dirtbag, or whatever because they all are true. He goes about his business professionally and does all the little things you want in ballplayer. But his tools and athletic ability aren't over the top. He'll get things done, but I just hope Sox fans aren't expecting too much.
  5. Of course you would love the trade, because it would be hiway f***ing robbery!
  6. I can see it now...... (not necessarily from you) After Jeremy Reed goes 1-12 in his first 4 spring games, the Jeremy Reed is overrated thread goes up. This guy is slow, has no power and will be completely overmatched against MLB pitching. The Sox farm is all hype and no substance. How can Sox fans ever trust management to get us good players when they won't spend money to get free agents and they won't spend money on scouts to get us good players, not overrated crap like Jeremy Reed! Anyone wanna take wagers that some idiot will start a thread at least similar to that??
  7. This is the same exact thread as "If you can tolerate one more rumor" people. All that has been done is added Encarnacion, Konerko and cash to the equation. It's NOT going to happen. Unless the Sox are sending a boatload of cash, there is no way this is even realistic. And I gurantee you that the Dodgers will not give up Jackson AND Miller, IF they give up either one. All this rumor is, is the combination of two rumors. Can we not move on or at least keep it to one thread??
  8. He was a pitcher and have never played in AA, let alone AAA.
  9. Pudge could blow out a knee in April? Could never come back and be as effective as he once was. His performance could simply start to decline. He is a catcher and in his mid-30's. It's not too far-fetched that this deal could blow up in the faces of said Tigers.
  10. Not so sure about that Yas....... I think Detroit is just trying so hard to get back to respectability that they are throwing money around. I get the feeling that this deal, if completed, will come back to haunt them.
  11. Where were you past?? You are correct that certain parts of Alabama are beautiful. I was very surprised when I moved here. The terrain is full of trees and rolling hills and everything is very well landscaped. When you get very far south of Birmingham, things change until you get to the beach at the Gulf. But Birmingham and Huntsville are both very nice areas.
  12. Gusy, I hope no one is disappointed, because I don't think Jeremy will excite you when first watching him. Jeremy is a baseball player, but he is not flashy and there is not a lot of sizzle with him other than his ability to make some pretty amazing catches in the field. Jeremy is the type of player that you don't notice that much until you look at the end of the game and realize he was on base three times. He will hit more singles than anything else and many of those will be ground calls through the infield or just line drives over the infield. He doesn't have blinding speed. He is an aggressive baserunner, but his speed will not wow you at first glance. Don't set yourselves up for disappointment. Reed is a true baseball player and although that doesn't sound too exciting, it is a huge compliment. He is the kind of player you will enjoy watching everyday, but catching him in 3 or 4 ST games may not allow you to really appreciate his abilities. Make sense?
  13. Critic, I think part of the lack of optimism for Danny Wright is that no one knows what role he will play. He was so bad last year, that it is hard to envision him regaining a starting role and his sample size is so small, it is impossible to predict how he would do out of the bullpen for a full season. I do think Danny can bounce back. To what level is really hard to say.
  14. That was all part of the rumored trade that our friend Otis posted on WSI. Speculation by Boston fans was that the Red Sox want to make that trade with the Sox so they could revisit the ARod trade. Not sure to what level all of that is true, but it sounds like there was at least a little smoke which led up to the rumors. Otis did say that the proposed deal between the two Sox is dead at least for now. The only way it could be revisited is if the Sox move Koch or Konerko to clear payroll room for Damon. He said the REd Sox balked at giving up Nixon.
  15. That is nothing more than someone combining two trade rumors. I wouldn't even give it a seconds thought.
  16. Didn't I say that already?
  17. Using Mark Buehrle for example......... That signing Mark to a 3-year deal was a bad move, IF the amount they gave him was not significantly less than what he would likely get at market value if they went year to year with him. The concept of locking up young players (ones not yet eligible for free agency) in long-term contracts the way the Twins did with Mays, Milton, Guzman, etc. and the way the Indians did with Lofton, Thome, etc. is only good if the team realizes a savings over year-to-year market value due to the risk of young players not living up to expectations.
  18. Baggs, you just made my point......... How possible is it that ALL of those disappointments will re-occur? I submit that likelihood is very small. The very same reasons for optimism last year should not be a reason to predict doom and gloom this year.
  19. Good fine, uns....... didn't know the player could waive that.
  20. Oops, that would fall under a mistake. Obviously, it should have said more fun when you win.
  21. I find it strange that the only major difference in this year's team at this point and last years at this point is Colon. At this time last year, everyone was extremely excited and thought the Sox would have one of the best offenses in baseball. Unfortunately, many guys underachieved last year, especially early in the season. If the players perform closer to the expectations everyone thought were reasonable last year, then this team won't be bad at all. Sure, without Colon, they may have to win more games 8-6 and 10-9, but the potential for the offense is there and not cause for panic, in my opinion. I do think the success of this team will be determined early in the season. This year's team could gel with early success and surprise or it could self-destruct with early failures. I would keep a close eye on things in April. To answer your first question of why someone should buy tickets..... Because this team could be very exciting. Not too many people are baseball purists and love 1-0 games. Second, the ballpark experience is worth going, win or lose. Sure it is more fun when you win, but having a dog and a beer at the ballpark with friends or your family is a time to be treasured.
  22. Actually there is a Jan. 31 deadline that both McCourt and Fox agreed to for the sale. That could always be extended, but allowing it to go too long without some assurance the sale will go through and an agreement on what can and cannot be spent, I have a hard time seeing it drag on.
  23. Old news, winninugly, where ya been? LOL
  24. I really feel Mondesi is the last thing this team needs. KW wants grinders, guys who will go all out everyday. Mondesi hasn't necessarily been known as that kind of guy. Everett cannot be traded before June 15.
  25. Actually Josh they are asking for four players. The offer is Perez, Mota, Jackson or Miller and another prospect (who remains nameless at this point). First of all, thank you for valuing my opinion. I do think they Sox are asking way too much and here is why I feel that way... To fairly view this trade you have to look at the sum total of the trade and it's possible spin-off effects. The Sox are asking for a starting pitcher, an established highly regarded reliever, one of the top pitching prospects in baseball, both of which have a huge upside, another prospect AND asking the Dodgers to take on $8-$10 million in payroll. The Sox then could use at least some of that money to fill another hole or two on their roster, be it an OF to replace Maggs, a couple of utility players or another pitcher. The Dodgers get a huge bat which they desparately need. However, there is no guarantee how Maggs will hit in Dodger Stadium since it is decidedly a pitcher's park. Could Maggs .300-.320 average drop to .280? Could his 30-35 HR and 100-120 RBI drop to 25-30 and 90-100? Maggs is a great hitter, but those are real possibilities. They also have no guarantee that Maggs will be in LA for more than one year. The part of this proposed trade that confuses me is what the sticking point actually is. There have been too many varied reports about who the Dodgers are balking at. It is unclear whether the Dodgers still want to give up Perez after trading Kevin Brown. There have been reports that Evans doesn't want to give up Mota. Many reports have debated whether Miller or Jackson are even touchable. It could simply be the total number of players involved. Perhaps the Dodgers make the trade if it is for only 2 or 3 of the players, depending on which ones they are? Everyone seems to have an opinion and think they know, but there are too many conflicting reports. I firmly belive that if the Sox are to move Magglio, they are going to have to live with a balance of the players they get in return and the amount of payroll they are asking the other team to take on. They will either need to back off on the players they asking for, or substitute a player that makes more $$ to balance the payroll inequities. All of that is just one man's opinion, nothing more, nothing less.
