Something funny at USCF
They're probably having sex....... Anyone see the old video that circulated a few years ago of a girl pulling up her skirt and hopping her man's lap in the upper deck of some stadium??

Minor League Boxes for Sunday
I think that is a fair word for Rogowski. Some basic info on Rogo...... He's 22 and is a 6-4 230lb lefty first baseman. He has never really showed the power some expected (only 29 career HR), but has always walked a good bit and stolen double-digits which is impressive for a guy his size. He skipped over Bristol and played in low A his first full season, but then repeated low A the following year. In that repeat year, he hit .287 with 14HR and 69 RBI. Last year, he was hurt most of the year and only played 55 games in high A. His numbers dropped off considerably to .255 3 HR and 23 RBI, which could easily be attributed to a late start due to the injury. In a perfect world, he would have had a great year last year and been in Birmingham this year. Instead, he is repeating high A respectably, although not tearing it up. He is hitting .269 with 4 HR and 21 RBI with 33 BB, 32 K and 11 SB. I think his walk rate, size and athleticism made many people he was primed to breakout. At 22, it is not too late, but he needs to have a solid second half and then have the breakout year in AA next year or he will get lost in the shuffle.

Ginter and Adkins have been very good recently. Diaz has been consistently decent. Nothing overpowering, but no real bad outings either. Adkins recent successes were documented in another thread.

SOx sign Valido, Hummel on rise
My guess is they see him as a utility guy. If he keeps hitting, they may change their minds, however. His ability to play all three helps the Sox either way. It gives them flexibility. That is just a guess. KW hasn't called me lately to give me his official word. LOL
-
Just finished Beane's book.
The Durham deal was as much abou freeing up room to see if Jiminez was capable of starting this year and freeing up some cash (yes, some of Ray's salary was picked up) as it was about the prospect (Adkins) we received. From a current column on ESPN.com.. "There are three types of prospect deals," Cleveland's Mark Shapiro said. "The first is one in which you take back most of the salary, and in that case you should get one very good prospect and one good one. The second is where you take some of the contract, and there you should expect a good, but not great, prospect. The third is where the team trading for the player has to take all the contract, and in that case you probably won't get even a good prospect. That's the law of the land right now." So it will take awhile for the Mets to make up their minds whether they want to just shed the contracts -- and use the money on other players -- or whether they want to pay a chunk of Benitez's contract and get a prospect. Since right now there is no Robby Alomar market, when and if interim GM Jim Duquette goes to move him at the deadline, the Mets will likely have to take back some of his money to get one or two names off another team's "B" list.

SOx sign Valido, Hummel on rise
Reed is already in Birmingham. Valido signed 2 weeks ago and has already played in 4 or 5 games. He is considered a slick fielding SS with suspect hitting(so he goes 2-4 with 2 RBI and 2 errors in his first game - go figure!) You are accurate on Hummel. Miles has been solid. Brumbaugh was released last week so he can play in Korea. Wing and Honel have been very good in W-S. Yan has cooled big time, only hitting .200 (approx) for the month of June. Still has 41 SB however. Mike Spidale has come back from an early injury and is hitting .302 with 15 SB. Pacheco has been very good. Cotts has been on the DL and has fought control problems despite great success. Doubt he will move up this year, or at least probably not soon.

good thing everyone ripped manuel
He said that Goodwin had the green light to run on his own. Basically that is a steal sign, without telling him to steal on a certain pitch. Why is that so hard to believe?
-
Jerry Manuel.....
Get over it man. Colon just gave up two hits the inning before (albeit not rockets). If Manuel leaves him in and the Cubs score two, you are making this same argument from the other side. Or if you aren't, someone else is.
-
Umpires
The umpires aren't screwing the Sox....... get over it! Lee did everything right..... his relay wasn't slow. The ivy on the wall slowed the ball down and cut down the ricochet back to him.
-
Scott Rolen
The problem with head first slides is that guys aren't selective in when they do it. They get into the habit of doing it all the time. It can be dangerous and unless the slide is VERY wide, it should never be done at home plate. Jim, to answer your question, I have no idea how the Sox teach sliding, or if they do at all. I would think that to get to a point of being drafted, you better know how to already.

Anderson and King
Very few college players get close to a full ride because of scholarship limits. They usually try and ocmbine athletic funds with other types of grants and aid (financial or academic). College baseball only has 11.7 scholarships to give for the program. If a team carries 28-30 players, that doesn't leave much left if a couple of guys are on a full ride. If he signs with the Sox, part of that contract will include money for school if he doesn't make it. If he wants to go right away in the offseason, he'll just negotiate that extra $$ in his signing bonus.

My experience today
They have a few on the Kentucky side don't they? Yep, just none in Cincy.
