QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Feb 4, 2009 -> 08:50 AM) Predictions for Michigan on Signing Day: 4* OL Quinton Washington (SC) - committed yesterday over South Carolina, Miami -LOI SENT TO UM THIS AM 4* WR Je'Ron Stokes (PA) - should go Blue over Tennessee and Illinois - 2:30 - 3:30 ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY 4* QB Denard Robinson (FL) - should go Blue over Florida and UCF. He wants PT so Tebow coming back hurt Florida's chances. UCF is local and making a big last minute push using PT as the bait. ANNOUNCED FOR MICHIGAN THIS AM 2* CB Adrian Witty (FL) - should go Blue. Teammate of Robinson above. Missed Jr. year and summer camps before Sr. year due to injury, so flew under the radar. High ceiling, but high risk due to the injury. ANNOUNCED FOR MICHIGAN THIS AM Michigan will hopefully get one of the following two DT's (getting both would be a surprise)... 4* Pearlie Graves (OK) - also looking at Texas Tech. Oklahoma flirted with him late. Also visited Tennessee. He committed to Michigan but has been very soft for a long time. CHOSE TEXAS TECH 4* DaQunita Jones (MS) - another soft Michigan verbal. Also visited Tennessee, Arkansas and Auburn. Late word has it he is leaning toward Arkansas, but like Graves, the word seems to change daily. LOOKING MORE AND MORE LIKE ARKANSAS - Tennessee & Auburn reportedly eliminated The longest of long shots... 4* DE Sam Montgomery (SC) - North Carolina seems to lead here, but he also is looking at LSU and Tennessee. Michigan is the only school Sam's mother did not join him on the visit. I think Momma wants him to stay closer to home. CHOSE LSU See updates in the quote box

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 31, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) Big 10 officials are completely incompetent. I love that this play gets an ejection but the Krabbenhoft elbow to Lewis Jackson didn't even get a foul. I'm thinking what happened today was a reaction to Krabbenhoft and other such fouls recently. Big Ten officials and supervisors of officials evaluate games on tape. They likely told them to tighten things down to make sure things get out of hand so you get the call today coming from that. Just some speculation.......

I'd say there is very little chance USC lands either Kirkpatrick or Jenkins. I also agree that Carroll poorly handled the press conference with Sanchez. Even if he disagreed with his decision, he basically showed up his own player, which in my mind doesn't send a good message to the rest of his team. I think what he may have lost sight of is draft position. Sanchez's position this year relative to other QB's is much better than what it might be next year. It seems to me he felt like with McCoy and Bradford staying in school this year, this was his opening and I tend to agree with him. You can argue that draft position is more relative to his talent than how many other players are at his position, but I don't believe that's completely true. I can't argue with his choice at all.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 08:39 PM) Jelani Jenkins (2nd best LB), Manti Te'O (3rd best LB), and Dre Kirkpatrick (best DB) are all between USC and 2+ schools. They also have gotten committments already from Matt Barkley (best QB), Vontaze Burfict (best LB), Devon Kennard (the best DE), and Patrick Hall (2nd best "ATH"). Kennard picked USC this morning, per sportingnews.com. All the parentheses stuff is from rivals.com. And this is different from any other year how?

Stokes isn't going to Illinois and I would be shocked if he sticks with Tennessee. Expect him to end up in Ann Arbor. Unless, Zooker can keep filling his head about he'll never get the ball at Michigan. I hope they do. Makes no sense to me that a kid like that would want to come in right behind Pryor, but I'm good with that because that just increases the chances for Michigan getting Devin Gardner in 2010.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 26, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) Alot of those schools literally will offer a ton of players scholarships because they know that 10-15 of them wont qualify academically. Exactly. Auburn had 30 signees in 2007 and 29 last year. At least 7 or 8 didn't qualify. So they send them to prep schools hoping the kid will remember who stood behind them when they didn't make it and sign with them after a year of prep school. Alabama had 32 signees last year.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 02:18 AM) Well technically he hasn't signed yet, high school players can't sign until February 4th. Not sure if that is what he was talking about or not though. Technically they can, if they enroll in January. Michigan has 7 players already enrolled in school and all have signed letters of intent. Your point was correct, however.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 22, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) BOSTON MARKET! That's an excellent eat-out place for those watching or trying to lose weight (and the prices are more than reasonable). Last week for dinner I got some sliced roasted turkey, Garlic dill potatoes, steamed veggies and some cornbread. All together it was about 440 calories, 13 grams of fat. And most importantly I was full afterwards. That's a really underrated aspect when it comes to losing or maintaining a certain weight. It makes no sense to eat so little at a time that you're always hungry. All that does is lead to you going crazy and eating foods you're trying to avoid. Another good eat-out place is actually Old Country Buffet. Yes, they have a ton of fattening stuff. But they have a really good selection of healthy things you can eat, too. Last time I went I had some baked fish (which was really good), mashed potatoes (light gravy) veggies (I really like green beans), with a wheat roll. I had a salad as well. They also for dinner usually serve roasted jerk chicken. The s*** is delicious and very good for you. Healthy dressings for salad? Go with low-cal/low fat or non-fat Italian Vinegarette (I think I spelled that wrong). It's really good and much better for you than those thick/fatty ranch or 1000 island dressings. Use no-fat croutons as well. Besides that, when in doubt, just pm Rex. lol. This guy knows his stuff. I can't believe how much weight this dude lost. I saw some before and after pics. You ever see a hot-air balloon before and then after it's deflated? That's Rex. lol. Sorry, Rex. Just givin' you props. Thanks, I think lol As far as eating out, I'm not much help. In general I'd say stick to fish (not fried), chicken & turkey. I don't eat salads so it is especially difficult for me. The best advice I have is to eat more frequently (small things every two hours or so) which will help keep you from overdoing it when you do go out. Take the kinds of snacks to work and eat between meals. I honestly graze all day long, but I eat the right things. The next best piece of advice I have on the matter is this.... Indulge on occasion. Balance out your meals. If you have a lunch higher in fat than you would like, compensate for it with the rest of the foods you eat that day. If you want to go out to dinner at night and have your favorite dish, adjust the foods you eat during the day. See first recommendation above to help keep you from eating too much in one sitting, but do not deprive yourself of the foods you love. Just the frequency you have them. Also, I've mentioned this before, but I recommend weighing yourself once a week and once a week only. Do so at the same time each week. Friday morning when I first wake up works best for me. It keeps me disciplined during the week and I am good with indulgine a bit on the weekend.

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jan 20, 2009 -> 11:01 PM) So I'm hardcore in workout mode right now. Breakfast: NutriGrain bar Lunch: PB&J Sandwich Dinner: Subway Footlong, Chicken/Mixed Veggies, etc. Drink LOTS of water all day. I'm working out 5-6 times a day, each day with at least 45 minutes of cardio (bike, treadmill, elliptical) and then about 15-30 minutes of lifting. Current weight: 234 I don't really have a goal weight, more so a goal "image" so to speak. I'm putting it at 210 number wise, but I just want to look a bit more fit than I am. I'm 6'6, so I'm not some tub of lard, but I'm not as defined as I was in high school when I was playing baseball. You need more calories than that. Going to low on your calorie intake will cause you problems down the road. Vary your calories daily. Get plenty of fiber if you don't eat many veggies, like me. I HIGHLY recommend Fiber One bars. There are 4-5 flavors and they give you 9g of fiber in one bar and they taste great. I like Oats and Chocolate and Oats and Caramel. Jordan likes Oats and Peanut Butter. If you are lifting you will DEFINITELY need more calories. Make sure you are getting enough protein. If you need to add supplements, do so. But the weight lifting will do you no good if you aren't getting enough protein to support building of lean muscle tissue. If you focus on protein and getting enough fiber and make sure you are getting enough calories to give your body the energy it needs to make your workouts effective, you should be okay. You don't need to count carbs, but be aware of what you are eating. Eat your Subway on wheat, not white. Try and limit white flour products and sugars. Lastly, when you are having a craving, indulge. Just limit those episodes to once or twice a week. And by indulge, I mean pig the hell out once a week if you want. Pick a food you really miss and plan to eat it on the weekend. Enjoy the hell out of it, then get back to your healthy habits. "Cheating" will actually help you lose weight. For other suggestions, check this thread abouto 5-10 pages back. I got much more long winded than this. Hope this helps. One more lastly............ did I mention to get more calories and get enough protein??

HAROLD AND THE HALL ... Put em in
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) There are a couple of pet peeves I have about how people qualify others for the Hall of Fame. The biggest one is by taking the numbers of a player, and comparing them to a player from another era. Comparing Harold's numbers to a guy who played 100 years ago tells you nothing about how good he was during his own era of play. Baseball really has very distinctive eras, where one group dominaties over another group. Looking at the 60's and 70's pitchers were in charge. Looking at the 90's and 21st century, its the offenses. 384 homers during Harold's era, is not the same as 384 homers when Ron Santo or Johnny Evers was playing. While the same statistic, it doesn't mean the samething. A pitcher with Greg Maddux's 3.16 career era during the 1960's or pre-1930 would have probably been the last man in the rotation, if not in the pen. When I look at Hall of Famers, I look at the very best players within a era. I want to see someone who either defined, or redefined something about the game of baseball. Realistically, what did Harold Baines really stand out from the pack for? Baines is one of my all-time favorites, but I can rattle off a bunch of guys who are more dominate in this era. Harold Baines, while being a very good hitter, for a considerable period of time, it not one of the all-time greats who deserve immortality in Cooperstown. I completely agree with that. I'd consider a player who was great for 10 years more than I would a player that was good for 20. Longevity tells us a player was very good or else he wouldn't have been able to stick around long. But it doesn't equate in itself of a HOF career. That said, I don't see any way that Harold is a Hall of Famer. Personally, I have always been an advocate of a tiered HOF. I still think it could be done and think of what attention it would bring the game of baseball as each player in the Hall would have to be rated and classified. It would create so much debate and draw so much attention to the history of the game, that I think baseball would win in a huge manner. In a nutshell, there would be a determined number of levels, with the top level being for the ultra elite and would include very few players. Each successive level down the pyramid would include more players, but each level would place the players in a class of achievement. In theory, the Hall is supposed to do that know by putting all the players into one elite level, but no one here would state that all of those players were equal, so why not divide them up within the Hall? The base level would be for those still very deserving, but at a minimum level of achievement. Separating the players would be completely subjective and even controversial, which would make the process even more fun. This could also allow for some distinction between a player who makes it in due to amassing numbers due to longevity and a player who is dominant for a shorter amount of time. I don't think you can compare two such players now. Just my 2 cents

QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jan 10, 2009 -> 05:30 PM) Huge Hire by the Jayhawks. They named Billy Miller as Co Def Coordinator. He left his position at Louisville to come home to Kansas. Miller, originally from Hutchinson, has an impressive resume. He has worked as a defensive coordinator under Nick Saban at Michigan State and Butch Davis at Miami. He worked at Oklahoma State under Jimmy Johnson. He was a linebackers coach and assistant head coach at Florida while Ron Zook was the head coach. Before taking the job at Louisville he was hired by Dirk Koetter in 2005 as the defensive coordinator. He is also a beast in recruiting the state of Florida, which Kansas has started grabbing kids from. Mangino gets better and better while staying plumpy and fun. What position did he have at Louisville? He wasn't the DC there.

Jordan, great work. I'm glad you got the results you were hoping for. Let me add that you did it at the most difficult time during the holidays. That's nothing to sniff at. As for me, I finished the year down 111 pounds (I started on Jan 5). After hitting the 95 pound mark by the end of September, I had higher hopes. But doing a realistic evaluation, I can't be anything but pleased. I didn't lose at the same pace as before, but I didn't go backwards. Moving into 2009, I have to figure out where to go. I have no set specific goal as of this time, but I'll come up with one. I am seriously considering training for a half marathon in Nashville in April. We'll see how the next couple of weeks go and if I can get on a regular training schedule. Congrats to all who made progress and mucho encouragement to those that want to start in 2009. If I can be of help to anyone, please do not hesitate to PM me.

Have you ever noticed that the years when USC goes to Notre Dame it is always early in the year, yet in the years ND goes there it is toward the end of the season?
