QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 10:25 AM) How about Pauly snoozing on that play and allowing a guy to score from 2nd? Oh my, I totally forgot about that one. That was Ridiculous. I was furious when that happened. This is what starts to happen when elements on your team keep playing with their heads up their behinds. Other players start to get affected who might not normally be making mistakes like this. If Im Ozz, they wouldve been lit up for that. As for Garland, YES, he needed to MAN UP and not allow all the nonsense in the field to affect him, but he did. Our "defense" let us/garland down big time. Garland has always been a head-case, someone that has to be catered to and kept an eye on, which is why hes a perfect #4 or #5 starter. Little things start to affect him and he loses his cool. Hes always been like that. Maybe for his starts, I put out the best defensive team out there. Mack everyday is doing something absentminded in center. Cintron doesnt have the arm/range of Uribe. Now were seeing the lack of a REAL CenterFielder is now affecting the Way Pods plays. These guys need to wake up and realize this is the AL, the league where mistakes will cost you.

Patio Party @ The Cell. Is SoxTalk interested?
Hangar18 replied to Hangar18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 10:31 AM) How come I feel this would be like a time-share seminar? Come to a patio-party, but first you'll have to listen to a lecture on the evils of the Chicago media before you get to drink or eat. Would it matter to you guys if I told you the food & drink were sponsored by the Tribune & SunTimes? heh heh heh heh Tribune: Say, speaking of Hangar, dont listen to him, hes a lunatic. We here at the Tribune have ALWAYS held you SOX fans in the highest regards, and we bend over backwards to give you coverage SunTimes: Yeah........... what he said !! -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:43 AM) I never said we were wrong. It does seem somewhat comical that that's where we are now. And because our expectations are where they are now, the losses seem a lot worse than they ever were in the past. And I don't particularly enjoy that aspect. I understand what your saying. My cousin, who was always a "sox aficianado", someone who follows them from afar but not keeping track of every game, this year is Far more interested in the SOX than ever, so Losses to him are magnified now, so your right in a sense. We were at the game the other day, and we pointed out all of the Mental Mistakes in that game, and how the Tigers were exploiting them, and all I was able to tell him was, HEY thats what happens when you make mistakes against a good team Believe you me, I hate losing too
-
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) I'm not exactly in that boat, but my fandom sure has changed. I feel like I'm insanely more bitter after any loss this year than I ever was in the past. And sometimes I hate the fact that I (and several of us) are not totally pleased with a 36-23 record. In any other year, we would be pretty damn pleased with that kind of record at this point. Our expectations certainly have risen and will stay that way for quite awhile now. I just have to say it was a lot easier being the optimist of years past and believing a World Series trophy is possible, versus expecting a World Series trophy. I need to turn my attachment level down a few notches to my teams, so losses don't get to me too much. Because this team definitely owns a great deal of emotions during the months of April through October. Losses affect me the same way as since I was a kid. I always remember being MAD and wondering why we didnt do this/or do that during the game (I paid attention). The losses today are just as bad for me, but they have been noticably less as harsh to me right now. Winning a WS will do that to you Im guessing. Or maybe im realistic about the other teams. I dont like to lose, but you have to admit, the spectacular way we gave the game away to the Tiggers, reminded me of our team last year. As long as you lose to a better team thats hustling, good for them. There are some (esp on other websites) who will say "Why cant you people be happy, were 36-23 and we Just won the World Series". Well, the WS was last year, and were 36-23 and have given away a bunch of games already, and have been mentally deficient for a few weeks now. Sure, its a nice record, but were still not in 1st (and probably dont deserve to be right now) Thats the difference between us and that other team up north. They get to .500, and PARTY WILD in the streets. Were much more intelligent and realistic as a fanbase, and know better. I think most of us feel deep down that even though were 36-23, this may not be our year like last year. Im resigned to accept this and will keep rooting for them, because anything can happen. Our bullpen is basically in shambles, Our big 3 arent as big anymore. And our defense and mental mistakes, which were minimal last year, happen daily now with this team. Kudos to the SOX at least, for giving us a Chance this year, as opposed to sitting on their hands and "hoping" for the best. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) And sometimes I hate the fact that I (and several of us) are not totally pleased with a 36-23 record. I disagree. Thats what makes White Sox Fans SO UNIQUE. We expect excellence, and WONT TOLERATE anything less. Remember the Booing and Catcalling at Opening Ceremonies for SOXFEST 04? That was awesome, to see the fanbase rise-up and tell the team how they felt. We always BOO and dont need the newsmedia to tell us to do so. We always CHEER and SALUTE our players and dont need the newsmedia to tell us to do so. Its one of the reasons ive stayed a SOX fan for so long ................ the Passionate (and long underrated) Fanbase. Like I said before, that other team gets to .500, their fanbase Parties HogWild, break windows, pees in the streets indiscriminately. You wont see SOX fans partying like its 1999 for a .500 team.

Last nite, with Irod on 1st, flyball to Lcenter, Mackowiak gets the ball for the out, but "forgets" someone is on first. Irod tags up. :banghead Mackowiak is noticably upset over his move, the crowd in the bleachers let him know. He then scores on a bloop single that Rodriguez just "Knew" Mack wasnt going to get, he never stopped running and Mack decided to try for him at the plate, even though he had no chance, and compounded this blunder and another guy gets to 2nd.

QUOTE(watchtower41 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 03:40 PM) never can have enough patio parties..... though I believe all weekend games are sold-out for the rest of the season My question to all of you is ......................... Would anyone be interested in a Patio Party? this website would get a discount on admission. I will lead this if enough of you want to go. -
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 12:24 AM) Fun random stat of the day: The Cubs are 4-21 on WGN this year. Even more fun random stat of the day: The Cubs have lost 18 consecutive games televised on WGN. Pretty mind boggling considering they are what, 22-36? I mean that would make them 18-15 for non WGN games. Did anyone else know this..................and tell us if you did. Did you know that SOX TV COVERAGE IS AT AN ALL TIME HIGH? Did you know that cub tv coverage is DOWN 45% (if that is the actual number)? Did anyone know this? the Good SOX news and bad Cub news?

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 09:42 AM) By my count, Trib had 5 articles for each team. Dead even. Hangar, no one will take you rants seriously if both your tone AND your data are skewed and lacking in objectivity. Im sure your counting the Detroit Tiger story as a SOX story. There are no interviews with SOX players, managers, staff regarding the Tigers. The story Isnt about what the SOX think of the Tigers. Its entirely on its own all about the Tigers, and thus isnt a SOX story. However, since were all nitpicking, im going to add this to the Tiger count. AGAIN, there are only 4 SOX stories in todays Tribune. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) Out of curiousity, are you counting the Adam Greenberg signing as a Cubs story, and not the story about the Tigers and Sox? Otherwise the numbers don't add up. If so I would like to see your logic explaining how a guy signing with the Dodgers is a Cubs story, but a story about the Tigers not going away is not a story about the Sox??? A story about the Tigers, entirely about the Tigers and how the Tigers are a force to be reckoned with, does them no service if its counted as a SOX story. Greenbergs story was tough to call, but the Trib included it in the Cub notes section. The story im sure didnt have to be included, but were told how he was a cub, was drafted, made his first appearance, got beaned, was injured, Cubs didnt know what to do with him, Greenburg asked Cubs to Release him making the Dodgers' interest a story in itself did qualify this as a Cub story. And by the way, the Trib adds the William Ligue tales as "SOX" related, but I dont include those either. Are you guys gonna sweat me for not including the Ligue stuff too? QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 9, 2006 -> 09:38 AM) Chicago NewsMedia Watch 6/9/06 The SOX again are not able to gain any ground on the 5th place and falling Cubs in terms of media coverage in Chicago. QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 11:54 AM) - I love Murph. He is the only radio guy in Chicago who will consistently talk baseball. Something key when the city's hot radio discussion is who the back-up left offensive line-man will be. Really, I don't care. - The Score needs to learn that you don't need an arrogant radio personality to be successful. See Mike and Mike in the Morning for reference. - Mike North is fine. I think he's a good fit for the morning lineup, just not well suited anywhere else. - Boers and Bernstein are unlistenable. And before the "Oh you just don't understand their show comments", I do. Their act/gimmick has gotten tiresome. Murph Loves The Cubs, and on any given day, will spend 90% of his 2 hr timeslot devoted to nothing but Cub. Hes a moron and when he wants to, is intelligent. Mike & Mike occasionally have something to say. Otherwise, they regurgitate everything. North is OK. Boers & Bernstein are excellent

Just curious, I know the SOX offer a very special rate ............. would anyone be interested?

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:34 PM) My only suggestion is that it all be in one thread instead of a daily one that clutters up the board...at least until we all get tired of them... If we do that, people wont be able to see that days story topics (some have said they want this documented daily) that might be hard in one Giant Thread, but I like the Attention it will get MERGED. It would be great. I appreciate being able to have my say about a subject on a democratic fan-friendly website where Im free to say Whatever I like without worrying about disagreeing with administrators. Were all not going to agree, but I love opinions with substance to them, not just "this sucks". Thanks Again. For a guy with barely 80 Posts here, youve given me MORE already than other places gave me in 4 years. Thanks

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 10:07 AM) Wait then your post about there being more Tigers stories than Sox stories doesn't make any sense if it was just the numbers being transposed??? There were more Tiger stories than SOX stories the day before (tuesday)

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 01:21 PM) Yes but this does reflect poorly onto all Sox fans. Hey, thats what this WEST guy said before! I disagree. What does reflect POORLY on all SOX fans, is when a fan of that other team runs on the field at our ballpark, and years later SOX fans continue to get "blamed" because of the Irresponsibility of media reporting here. SOX fans complaining about other SOX fans documenting media Mis-representations of SOX fans reflects poorly on SOX fans indeed.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 12:34 PM) Maddux is a 300+ game winner and a surefire HOF. Contreras isn't. . ...............................instead of looking at it from a broader perspective and deeper understanding of the marketplace, audience, demographics, bigger picture of baseball, etc. Sadly, I think you lack the ability to do that. So 2 pitchers go 5-0. Pitcher A should get the entire Back Page and extra coverage because hes a sure-fire Hall Of Famer, and Pitcher B should just be relegated to a corner blurb? Hmmmmm Ok we'll go with that. What about if .................. Team A is off and doesnt play a game, and Team B plays a game against a division rival and wins big. What should the picture be about? Team B game picture or Team A disabled pitcher warming up in minors? Im sure some may say "Hey, Wood is a sure-fire hall-of-famer-to-be" or "This is a major story"

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 12:48 PM) We have a good attendance, we are the defending world champions and are .5 games out of first place in June. WTF are we still talking about media bias and crap like this. NO ONE CARES IF THERE ARE 5 STORIES ABOUT THE CUBS AND 4 STORIES ABOUT THE SOX on X day. If you want to read whitesox all the time, I suggest you read the Southtown Economist. Lots of Sox stories. You may want to purchase a sissors to cut out the random cub stories so they dont hurt your eyes. (Misses Big Picture)

Both Teams are scary to me. The Indian Bullpen is very good, and their hitting is going to wake up sooner or later. The Tigers are just like the SOX of 05 (but theyre getting press), and will only make themselves better next year. I told some Tiger fans last nite, they should be proud of their team and this division, its going to be very competitive for years to come

QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) Okay... But cf exposes everything about Mack. Granted, they both suck. But cf is the more important position, so you have to ask, who is worse? Good Post. I agree completely, also with Klaus. This isnt the NL, and Mack is only playing passable CF. Too many balls are getting into the gaps with the hitters here in the AL. Unfortuneately, we have to keep things just like they are, because CF would expose Pods' arm ............

QUOTE(zach23 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 10:52 AM) Hangar's old obsession - The Sox are cheap and won't win because they get cheap players like Dye instead of spending money for better players. Now that he can't complain about that anymore his new crusade is the media bias. Note: Hangar has been doing the Media Watches since 2002.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 10:38 AM) To illustrate further, let's suppose a casual baseball fan reads a Cubs related story and it piques their curiousity about baseball in general. Ultimately they pay their way into ...............ballparks. this is exactly my point. This casual baseball fan picks up and reads both papers. Both papers have more stories about one team vs. the other. Both papers put more of a positive spin about one team, the other gets a negative spin. Both papers make sure to also tell you how EXCITING one park is, and the other one is bland, boring and dangerous. Casual fan, based on this.........will go to the "fun" park, the one with the most stories about it/them. This person most likely eventually becomes a "fan" of that team and spends his $$$ there. Ive long accused the Trib of using their paper as a daily informercial for promoting their team ("so what, its their team man") The Trib said in 1981 it wouldnt let its association with that other team, affect the way it covers the SOX, and things would be equal. Since ive been keeping track, things have NEVER been equal. Was there a big deal about Jose Contreras getting to 6-0 the way Maddux was given the entire back page/headline and all, upon upping his record to 5-0? Nope.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 11:52 AM) If Pods hadn't held the runner at 1st, and that flyball ended up being a base hit, then the Tigers score 2. Actually, I was referring to Pods play, had he gotten to the ball sooner, Maggs doesnt go to 3rd
-
QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) When have I ever been anything but? It's just frustrating listening to the same s*** year after year with people complaining about media bias when all these papers are doing is running the way they see fit and frankly it's working for them. Can anyone really argue with the number Cubs to Sox fans? Since there's a large discrepency doesn't it seem that there may be a difference in the amount of coverage each team sees in the papers of that city? What came first ..........The Chicken or The Egg?
-
It seems our defense has been letting us down alot more than from last year. I am not sold on Mackowiak in CF long-term though I like his bat. One thing that stood out to me last nite, was a situation that allowed the Tigers to tie the game early. Magglio was on 1st, and the Tiger hitter looped one directly to LF. Podsednik, at first froze then breezed over towards the line to get the ball. Maggs saw this and never stopped running, Pods hurried and seemed poised to make a play at 3rd, but threw towards 2nd to stop the runner from advancing. Moments later, a fly ball to Center scored Maggs.

QUOTE(zach61 @ Jun 8, 2006 -> 11:13 AM) After reading Jim H's post in another one of these pointless watch threads, please post the titles of the stories to back up your numbers. And I think you should be starting with new numbers since the mistake was already caught about mis counting stories. You're numbers can't be considered accurate now unless you can post all the story titles to verify their correctness and so that we can read them too. Start tomorrow at 0 for both teams and post the stories so we can all see what you are claiming and counting. Did you read my response to JimH's post? The only mistake that was made, was where the numbers were placed in Cub/Sox. They all corresponded and are still correct, if you look at the totals. For instance.... Apples 1 + 1 = 6 Oranges 4 + 2 = 2 Apples-2 Oranges-6 Right away, one would say Hey these numbers are all wrong, but the Totals are correct. How about if I post the LINK to both papers, you guys can read for yourselves what im "claiming"
