QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 05:13 PM) He claims 2002, yet he admits he was a Cub until the end of 2003. So you figure out where the truth lies... Steff accused me of being a cub fan, so I was being a wise guy (forgot to use green) and I told her, "your right, im busted, i just became a sox fan recently blah blah" I was kidding. Ive been a sox fan since day 1

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 04:45 PM) Zach61, Whatever man. You keep a tally with me, and we'll let the people decide tomorrow. Im not going to sit here and nitpick with zachs inane questions, which he is missing the point greatly. Post your own watch, I promise I'll check it out. Otherwise, the 2 of you should quit clogging this thread with stupid and repetitive questions/assumptions in a blatant effort to get this thread closed.

QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 02:48 PM) I've never met anyone personally but I know a few people that went to school with the members of Cheap Trick. Those guys all went to the same school also didnt they? Wasnt the biggest CT fan, but they grew on me as the years went by. I do admire the fact that they stayed together and their friendship kept them together as long as it did. Lot to be said about friendship QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) grew up with Jimmy Chamberlin, drummer for Smashing Pumpkins. Does that count? Also shook paul mccartney's hand when he was outside of a recording studio near work. Details? Paul McCartney? thats pretty cool, id love to meet him. I think ive got you topped, met, chatted with, shook hands with, and got an autograph from the master himself, JIMMY PAGE. I still cant believe I got to chat with him ........

QUOTE(zach61 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 04:18 PM) So nothing is actually being proven. Unless the Sox are the only team covered by the trib, then they are wrong? Why wouldn't the trib cover more of the cubs than the Sox? Isn't it in their best interest to promote their own product over another product? Don't they still own the cubs and need for people to pay to see the cubs if they want to make a profit? I thought this whole media watch was to show how many stories the trib and times wrote that made the Sox look bad and the cubs look good? Guess it changed again. Zach, cmon man. How many times are you going to ask the same question/ask question already asked by others and answered. Tribune is newspaper and they promised both teams would get "Fair" coverage and by their own admission, said they wouldnt let their ownership get in the way of covering the Sox. They cant do that because its a conflict of interest. They DO want to promote their own team first. GET IT NOW? or are you gonna ask the same stupid question? MSPT

QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) Steff saying stuff is one thing, because she knows him personally (I'm assuming you're the same Steff from WSI...if not...I will be pretty embarassed. hehe). But for all these posters to rip on a guy who was really respected at WSI...it doesn't make this site look very good. I never liked it over there ....... dont like it here, but Im new, so I'll put up with it for now

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 04:03 PM) SF76, hangar18 has stated he believes the Sox should dominate media coverage. YES. I think its only fair. The Media BURIED the SOX in 03, and 04 with coverage for that other team, and they won NOTHING. The SOX actually win it all, and are still "losing" in coverage to that other team. A double standard exists and is exposed on a daily basis.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 03:30 PM) .......... no one denies the fact that Maddux has always had a large strike zone but 6 inches is f***ing excessive. that might not be too far off. Ive watched some umps give him that and Ive watched other umps bring him back to "earth" and he has a much harder time. One thing is clear right now, the guy is clearly running on fumes now

QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 02:27 PM) Um, let's clear up a few things here. First of all, whoever said that WSI'ers coming here are "Eurotrash" now that EuroDisney has closed, guess what? That's where I came from. Am I trash? I suffered the same fate--without getting into it as I'm sure the moderators are watching--and was stunned that I got banned. But people welcomed me here with open arms and I've been here since. I would suggest we do the same for the people who come here from there--or should I say flee there for here. That's what made this place feel right. If you don't like Hangar's media threads, then don't read them. Maybe he can flag them as such so you won't waste your time. Otherwise I'd like to see a little more hospitality here for new posters and not the sort of secularism that makes places other than this such a drag. heh heh. There seems to be alot of us refugees here now, heh heh. I like how some on that site snicker at the number of us who are here now in a condescending tone, as if we were banished from the big leagues to AAA or something, I dont really care for that. I do know some of the regulars here are pretty guarded about this mass influx of new people, and I can understand. Bunches of people get banned/treated poorly and show up here as if this is "2nd choice", Im sorry it looks like that. But some of you took the time to welcome me and the others (and knew the circumstances) so THANKS MUCH and I promise to contribute help make being here fun and interesting. For the others, I understand I'll have to "earn" my stripes here and I understand that and I'll try not to get mad right away, give me me (and everyone else) a chance, it will be worth it.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:28 PM) Hyperbole? If he were getting 6 inches off the corner he'd of thrown about 10 perfect games by now. or won 15 games a year for a bunch of years .........

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:51 PM) I think that Ozzie was out of line, but I'll say this: For anyone who's never been unfairly chewed-out by a moody boss before, welcome to the real world! It's not fair, but it happens all of the time. And it usually has nothing to do with you personally. Just let it go. Hopefully Tracey knows this. Agree wholeheartedly. I hope this doesnt blow up and become more than it really is

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:46 PM) I've in fact played with a few (jazz and classical, that is). But they are names that are probably only famous to those who follow jazz or classical music. Really? Whom? If you say someone like Chris Botti, thats pretty cool

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) I was at a game in Toronto in '98 and met Ray Durham in the SkyDome bar. Very cool guy, very funny. I knew some people who saw Ray in a bar after a game on the road somewhere. The people said they were the only real "group" of SOX Fans in the place, it was crowded, and that Durham noticed them and chatted with them and took pictures. They said he also bought a couple rounds of drinks for the whole table, I thought that was very cool of him

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:32 PM) Doesn't this belong in another forum? oops. Sorry, Im being a Rookie again

The more I think about it, it seems Ozz may have lost his cool and OVERREACTED big time. Again though, Ozz is a very emotional guy, and this kind of thing doesnt surprise me. It would not be cool if Sean Tracy were to be blackballed with the SOX because of this. But if everything is correct, there is no GRAY AREA here. Ozzie asked him to do 1 Specific Thing, and he didnt do it. Hopefully Ozz talks to him afterwards and this gets straightened out, we cant afford to be throwing away pitchers right now QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:30 PM) I'm not happy with the way it went, but like I said, that wasn't meant for our consumtion in the first place. ...........this also is very important to note

Got to thinking about this in another thread ............. I was at a bar, and got to meet Scott Ian of Anthrax (band)

QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:17 PM) Before the Marte talks go any further, let us keep in mind why he isn't pitching for the White Sox in 2006. As has been said here on multiple occasions, Damaso Marte and Ozzie Guillen could no longer co-exist. Period. Damaso, since day one, has been described as a sheepish guy that avoids confrontation on all fronts. Damaso Marte is the stereotypical "dumb jock" type. Very nice guy, but hes more athlete than rocket scientist, which isnt a bad thing, if a manager knows how to harness a guy like that

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:47 PM) This is exactly right. Obviously, the Sox weren't all that high on Lopez. If Riske bombs, all it really costs is cash. and if im not mistaken, Riske is making pretty minimal money also correct? This is a great deal
-
QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) At a bare minimum, hangar needs to eliminate the "media ignored" statement from his White Sox sentence because it's completely untrue by anyone's definition. Fine. I'll redefine that tomorrow

QUOTE(WCSox @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:19 PM) Yes. If Hangar would .................. make more posts like this one, he'd have a lot more fans here. .............hey, I havnt changed at all. Im still the exact same, sox lovin', beer drinkin', music listening, media watchdog Ive always been. Matter of fact, I put my pants on one leg at a time, heh heh QUOTE(Pods22 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:55 PM) Being obsessed and bringing the Cubs into everything couldnt have anything to do with it ....could it?!?! not at all .......... im told theres more to it apparently, because I never broke any rules or cursed anyone out or cursed a mod out for that matter, but who cares. they banned me for talking about the cubs in a cubs forum they designated for cub talk only, and caused some head scratching. whatever. At least here, I can say "Im not feeling so good about the SOX" and have to worry. Back to player sightings, I also remember seeing Robin Ventura walking on Fullerton and Clark with his wife back in 1990 on a saturday morning. I was across the street and heard someone say GO SOX and the guy was pointing to a guy that looked like Ventura when I realized dang, that is Robin Ventura! QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:21 PM) Inferiority Complex defined. Glad you brought that up. I was watching the game, and DJ was saying how he liked going to Ballpark in Arlington and that it was a really nice park and he really liked the design. Hawk then said yes its very nice, but that he really likes the work done on the Cell. DJ then said YES, he also loves the work theyve done, the bullpens, the green, the work on the roof and bricks. Hawk said The Cell in his mind is one of the nicer parks in baseball now and DJ said he agrees, its alot better than what it was before. Hawk then said he thought the park was "fine" before the renovations, and that the SOX and the park were simply getting maligned on a daily basis in the media and in particular "a couple of guys" back in chicago (referring to columnists/Idiotti) who would everyday blast the park that soon everyone started believing "all of that" about the park (inferiority complex indeed-Sox shouldve ignored everyone I guess?) ..........he then trailed off, as if he were Angry, and DJ came back and said he was right about that, and now at least the SOX have a nice park

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:43 PM) what kind of car was he driving? It was a really snazzy one. I think it was an escalade?? QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:06 PM) Why are you now frequenting this website? Did the WSI crew grow tired of your media who-ha? Yeah, the mods over there finally had enough with the media watches and banned me. Supposedly your not supposed to talk about the other team over there (Shhhhh, cubs), but they have a forum specifically designated for talking about the other team there, (and a wildly popular and media-mentioned thread "write your own cubune headline) so I think something else was going on, not sure what, they havnt told me

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:35 PM) But we have Coop!!! That should straighten him out right quick! This is a good point. We have one of the BEST pitching coaches in baseball with Cooper, and one of the BEST trainers in Herm Schneider. If anyone can work magic, its definitely these two. Remember the props Bo Jackson gave Herm in his recovery and training?
-
QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 12:39 PM) Good. Let everyone think that...and when Riske pulls an El Duque '06, who'll be laughing then? I agree ............ obviously the SOX scouts thought highly enough of him to make this move

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 04:48 PM) Well, let's look at his average over the past three eyars during the Questec era in a few parks that have it. In Shea Staudium he has a 3.00 era In Minute Maid Park he has a 3.44 era In Miller Park he has a 2.77 era http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/spli...tching3&three=1 So, I don't know where you read that...but its wrong. Thats interesting. Are those the only parks with Questec? Are there stats for this year?

QUOTE(retro1983hat @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 11:58 AM) On Jonathon Brandmeier's show this morning he played a clip of Rick Sutcliffe in the booth with Len Kaspar and Bob Brenly and they cut him pretty quick because he sounded sloshed. He then played Sut singing Take Me Out to the Ballgame and he was slurring all over. Has anyone else heard this? How come there's not the attention like when he was in the booth in San Diego last month? I was flipping channels and saw his "interview". He definitely sounded like he had a few beers already, but he wasnt as Loaded Drunk like before. He kept saying "look at this place", not referring to what he was talking about, and he gushed like a cheerleader about how great 1984 was. Memo to Sutcliffe: You guys didnt win anything.

Heres a quick tidbit I thought Id share with everyone. Late afternoon on Saturday, we were driving on the Ryan northbound just past 31st, when to my right, I happened to look over to a guy on my right passing and when I couldve swore I saw a WS Ring on the guys hand (on the steering wheel). Sped up a bit and took a look at the guy, who now took a quick glance to his left, and it was Jermaine Dye! I laughed and gave him the thumbs up, he smiled. I happened to be wearing my SOX jacket, so I pointed to it and he gave us an even bigger smile and nodded his head. Thought that was pretty funny ........
