  1. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 01:01 PM) I'm confused as to what this has to do with baseball? Supposedly, this "cell phone" is going to revolutionize the way managers talk to their bullpen coaches/players.
  2. Is this really breakthrough technology? Im kind of curious, because it seems lots of people have this now
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 12:23 PM) 5:35 Shes right. 5:30pm
  4. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 12:18 PM) Dun dun dun! Feels like a soap opera revelation. yeah, I used to hit cub games all the time with Steff ....er, I mean with friends
  5. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 09:32 PM) Well let me ask, are you happy Ozzie took him out, or would you have preferred to see Jon try and get out of it himself? He was only at 91 pitches, so he had all kinds of room to try and wiggle his way out of the inning pitch wise. I was alright with it. I think OZZ took him out so that nothing BAD would happen, and just keep his confidence up. Garland has been up and down in his starts, this was a good start, he was fairly consistent and did make just a couple of bad pitches, I hope he realizes his location was pretty good and thats why he was effective. This ranger team can hit, so not bad for Jonny G.
  6. QUOTE(Pods22 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 11:51 AM) bang away...you are like the preacher guy in front of old navy on state street. talk and talk and talk and only a few people stop to listen! I love intelligence
  7. QUOTE(alexgtp @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 03:48 PM) any update?? I will get an update hopefully by end of week or Monday. There are enough of us who want to take advantage of this correct? Price is generally about $45 bucks, includes all you can eat/drink in the patio before the game, starts at 5pm, and you get a reserved seat in the OF.
  8. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) And my results are still being ignored by him... :headshake http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...dpost&p=1173334 Ask an intelligent question ...........
  9. QUOTE(Pods22 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 11:04 AM) You see what you want to see BECAUSE YOU ARE OBSESSED WITH THE CUBS! Might as well give in and get a Barrett Jersey! At least your obsession will be healthy! :banghead
  10. QUOTE(zach23 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:58 AM) You still haven't backed up your claim that the Cubs have "dominated" the Sox in coverage in both newspapers since the 1980's. You had said previously that you didn't start your little crusade until 2002, so how do you have proof that the number of stories have differed greatly since the 80's? But he mentions that the Sox are outspending the Cubs by $10 million. If he aim is to make the Cubs look good and the Sox look bad as Hangar claims, why would he do that? Wouldn't Hangar's random fan in San Diego read this and think, "Wow, the Sox are right there with the rich-boys. That team must be good." Wait, your taking ONE LINE, where he mentions that the SOX are outspending the Cubs by $10 million ... where are you going with this? His article is RAHRAH, did you read the end of it? His throwing that $10 Million out there is certainly a way (in his mind) to remind the Cubs to start outspending the SOX. Its foolish on his part, because we know that simply spending $$$$$$$$$ doesnt guarantee winning. ("hey hangar, but werent you the one who called the SOX cheap because they wouldnt spend money? Your contradicting yourself again) I started my "crusade" in 2002, after years of noticing this ridiculous inequity in coverage. In fact, I noticed it Immediately in 81, 82, and especially in 84 when things got out of hand. The problem I had in posting my totals from 1984 was THE INTERNET WASNT READILY AVAILABLE as it is now. Your right, the random fan in SanDiego will hopefully read that and say to himself, WOW, the SOX are a big-market team After the SOX won the WS last year, I remarked often how things in the Media will change. Or how the Media will be FORCED to acknowledge the SOX and there was really only 2 ways for them to go. There was a reporter from the Tribune and SunTimes at the bar I was at (puffers) and they asked what all of this meant to me. I basically said the White Sox winning it all changes EVERYTHING, they will NOT be the dirty step-child of the city, and the Media will HAVE TO ACKNOWLEDGE the White Sox and Give them their DUE finally, they EARNED IT. Well, they never used my quote obviously. But the 2 ways the Media couldve gone (which is why alot of people were interested, myself included, to see how the Media would take the SOX winning) were either A: Give the SOX their due, and give them the EXTRA COVERAGE they didnt get previously OR B: Continue with Status Quo but b**** even more about the Cubs and What they need to do to win. So far, thru June 14th ................ that other team is winning
  11. QUOTE(zach23 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) Shouldn't the Chris Deluca story in the Sun-Times count as a Cubs and Sox story? It is all about the suspensions from the brawl and has quotes from Ozzie in it and things about A.J. and Brian Anderson as well as Barrett. If not, then why are you counting the Quick Hits as a Cubs story. There is only about a paragraph or so about the Cubs using wireless phones in the bullpen and then there is a bunch of other stuff about other things in baseball and other sports. Also, the tone of the story by Greg Couch is almost ridiculing the Cubs. How would that fit your theory that the papers are writing only positive things about the Cubs and negative about the Sox in order to sway popularity. I can almost see Couch laughing at the state of the Cubs as he writes that. good questions. Kind of. DeLuca story is about BARRET, not the SOX. SOX only mentioned because they are part of that suspension, and DeLuca LAZILY uses ozzies quotes from day before YESTERDAY. The SunTimes felt compelled however to put this in the "cub" section. QuickHits uses its lead headline to determine what is the real "story" in its section. Had they used something else like "Woods likes Golf", I wouldnt have counted it. Greg Couch is ridiculing the Cubs. He sounds like a pissed off cub fan who is tired of losing and is trying to play GM and get them to do something. Of course, he submitted this from the Wrigley press box, and the Cubs are in town, so he is compelled to write a Cub story (unlike last week, where he did a piece on the Tigers ). I too see Couch laughing at the cubs ........... This article doesnt rub off as "negatively slanted" as much as its a "were tired of losing-heres what we need to do" piece. Couch could easily have written a piece on who is available for the SOX Pen, or we could have another update on Dustin Hermanson.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 11:38 PM) That's right, Cubs vs. Tigers this weekend. I dislike the Cubs as much as everybody, but for 3 days, I'm a BIG Cub fan. I want to see everybody in here (that includes YOU Hangar and Cuck the Fubs). Hehehehe, this weekend will filter out who is a Sox fan and who is a Cub hater that just kinda likes the Sox on the side. This was brought up on that other website, and I had to think Long and Hard about that, and my love for the SOX is much stronger (despite what some over there and here will lead you to believe) than my hatred for the Arrogant Organization 8miles north. If I dont make it to Cincinatti this weekend, I will be at the Saturday Flub game with my cousin (who is a fan of that other team) and will be rooting very extra hard for that stupid team. Get this, as a show of good faith, my cousin is trying to get me to wear something related to that team ......(shivers) I may do it as a joke ..........(still shivering) QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:34 AM) Amen. I f***ing hate the Cubs and root against them almost every game every year, however this is priority time and it's pretty easy this weekend for me to root for the Cubs. If you hate the Cubs and openly root for them to lose ........ You must not be a Real Sox Fan according to some people supposedly
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 05:10 PM) Actually I think my assessments are quite accurate. Unlike yours, when it relates to: 1. The reason you got booted off WSI ... you can't quite seem to figure it out, you are flip flopping like a dolphin, and, 4. Please be accurate in all your terminology. The woman who threw the ball at Wrigley and almost beaned Jacque Jones was in her mid-20's, not underaged. 26 IIRC. But I guess you can throw labels around (underaged drunk Trixie) but the media can't. Congrats, yet another double standard. Do you have her information? Please let us know, the Media isnt telling us who she is, id like to know how YOU got her information. QUOTE(Felix @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:50 AM) not to help you or anything, but the Cubs are in 5th place, not 4th (you have both mentioned in your post?) Where? I'll fix it ............
  14. Chicago NewsMedia Watch 6/14/06 The SOX win a nice game last nite, with the big story being the performance of the bullpen last nite. The SOX unfortuneately lose ground to the 5th Place Cubs and are now behind by 100 stories. Despite Winning the World Series in 2005, the White Sox find themselves INEXPLICABLY getting less attention from our 2 major Chicago newspapers, who somehow believe that the 5th Place cubs are worthy of more news coverage than a team that just won the World Series in 2005 AND are currently in 2nd place with one of the top records in baseball. Chicago Tribune: 4 cub stories 3 sox stories Chicago SunTimes: 7 cub stories 3 sox stories Standings as of Wednesday June 14th, 2006 Priviledged, Media Owned, Media Favored, 4th place in 2005 Cubs 578 Underdog, Media Maligned, Media Ignored, WS Champs in 2005 Sox 478
  15. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 09:02 AM) I don't have time to wade through all this. Whether you like it or not, whether you like Hangar or not there is significant media bias towards the Cubs in the Chicago market. It's been happening for a long time and the White Sox themselves did a lot to cause it. A number of bonehead decisions were made, and this predates the Reinsdorf era. Now the White Sox are at long last defending World Champions and the worm is starting to turn. I guess people want to focus on that more than the popularity of the lovable blues on the north side. Steff says anyone that notices this must be "sick" or a "Cub" fan. by the way, Steff busted me on something. I was a huge cub fan up until 2003. I had enough of the lovable losers and decided to get on the Winning Track
  16. Wow. Cant believe the DBacks just outright released him. Thats a lot of money
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 07:12 AM) I am sorry to hear it, but at the sametime, we all knew we weren't going to get Dustin back this year. yeah, I wasnt ever expecting him back either, good luck Dustin
  18. Bratwurst, on main concourse, 3b side, w/ Grilled Onions and bun slightly toasted ............... add Brown Mustard. Best Bratwurst in Baseball, right here in Chicago
  19. QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 04:35 PM) As I said earlier, you brought this on yourself. The stat and fact guys here are meticulous with post details. If you screw it up, they will catch it, as they already have. I dont think anyones caught anything. One guy sees numbers transposed (yet simple math would see that they still matched with the previous days totals) and says the whole system is flawed. Another says my calling out the Trib for saying most fans at WS Parade werent really SOX fans, but fans of that other team, thats why numbers were so high is crazy and I better prove it (like I would make that up) Yet still another guy who says my system doesnt work, it should be measured in inches, not numbers of stories, so again whole system is flawed. im dodging bullets here .................. Id welcome Jim to take his own measurements of the same stories, and would be interesting to see if our numbers Coincide.
  20. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Further you are accomplishing exactly the opposite of what you choose to accomplish, you are trying to get people to not buy the Tribune when in fact your rants bring more PR to the Trib. However, I don't think you understand that and I'm tired of explaining it to you. You call measuring column inches ridiculous? Why is that? Because it doesn't fit with YOUR accepted methodology of determining bias? It's the only way to truly determine how much space each team is given, or aren't you able to connect the dots? You are also incorrect to suggest that I haven't added to the thread. I disagree with your rants, I think they are inaccurate and dumb, I've said so, and I've told you why. The last I checked, that's the nature of this board. Also, proof of a bias is you telling us your own personal opinion about the way things are "slanted". You already counted the stories wrong, and you conclude your daily rants with an adjective laden pukefest which clearly shows your own vendetta. You call it "truth" (LOL) and back it up with shady numbers. I call it a blatant bias on YOUR part, driven by your need to validate your own conclusions. As for the Chicago Sky, your statement saying "front page headline" is misleading and a misrepresentation. They were mentioned on the back page of the sports section, that ain't front page headline. Oh, and the thread became personal because you did in fact follow Steff down the path. Stop pleading innocence, you contributed to it as well. Personally, I think you should shut up and quit whining, but that's just my opinion. If you got booted off a website due (at least in part) to this crap, it ought to send you a message. Sadly though, I don't think the dots are connecting. Keep your personal whims to yourself Jim. THANKS. (I think you should stop complaining about my posts, but I wont say it) I got booted off a website for talking about the Cubs in a forum dedicated to talking about the cubs. Thats like you getting towed from a parking lot that says FREE PARKING. The Chicago Sky were the lead story in the Tribune for basically a week (front cover of the Tribune sports is ..............well its Front Cover Jim, I gotta tell ya. Back page? the SunTimes treats the back page as the lead page for their sports ........and well I gott tell ya Jim, its considered "front" page JIM. "Oh, and the thread became personal because you did in fact follow Steff down that path". You acknowledge a poster getting personal, somehow that was My Fault? I didnt send her a message telling her to try and air some of my personal dirty laundry on a baseball website. Where did I say IM trying to get people to NOT buy the Tribune? Ive been looking and cant quite find it Jim. If someone can post a link, id appreciate it. Your getting tired telling me that my crusade to get people to NOT buy the tribune is falling on deaf ears is because PRESTO, thats not what my "crusade" is all about Jim. Sorry you were confused. You hold firm to the assertion that column inches determines how much press a team gets? Why not actual stories? It doesnt fit with my personal agenda because ITS INEFFICIENT JIM. How hard is that to understand? I think we can assume the more stories a team gets USUALLY means theyre getting more column inches, or you dont want to assume that? Me telling someone glossing over this thread about 96 1/3 inches vs another team only having 10 7/8 inches doesnt have the same effect as 100 stories vs. 30 stories. Or are you going to say what about the European SOX fans, how will they measure this if it isnt done in Metrics? QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 02:31 PM) You said in this post that Cub negatives are buried, and then you say a sports radio show is talking about all the Cubs negatives. 2 differences in negativity Jim. * Underaged Drunk Trixie throws ball at cub player. No sensational headlines or talk of wrigley being dangerous. * Sports Radio Show. Hosts engage in b****ing about the cubs, the "fans" deserve better, why are they playing so bad, who can we trade, what can we do, this has been going on too long, why does this keep happening to Cubs, when is Lee getting back, lets talk about Wood blah blah blah. Fan on radio call and say enough, lets talk sox, they say NO SOX because Winning Is Boring (which was the whole point of that conversation, is winning boring, and no wonder were being ignored) QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 02:24 PM) Frankly IMO you are so biased on this whole issue and have a big gigantic chip on your shoulder about this newspaper thing that I don't blame the Trib for laughing at you. It is totally warranted IMO, as are the comments from other posters. What about the posters who find this informative? Are they too somehow less of a SOX fan? Just because you dont want look Jim ............... doesnt mean it doesnt exist.
  21. I remember playing in a game, my 2nd ever for this team, so they had no idea who I was or if I had any talent so thats why I was batting 9th. We have a guy on 2nd and 3rd, and for some reason, the firstbaseman is playing way way off the line practically in between 1st and 2nd. I could hear my teammates all saying 'can this guy hit', 'he sucks man', when I got the bright idea to take a late swing and see if I can hit down 1b Line. I did .................... we won the game ........and I thought man is this game Crazy
  22. We were at the ballpark last week on a work outing, president of the company got to enjoy US Cellular Field for the 1st time (hes from nebraska) hes been to that other park a thousand times, and just mentioned just how much "fun" he had at the Cell and that the Bratwurst he had had to be the best hes ever had. Apparently people in Nebraska are now wondering just how good our Brats really are. Any similar stories?
  23. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 01:43 PM) Ligue attacked a coach DURING A GAME, and INSIDE THE STADIUM. Thus, it was by nature, a sports event. The homicide outside Wrigley? Not sports. Why can't you accept that the media delivers what people want to read? If they don't they go out of business. And the Ligue mess was absolutely something people, including Sox fans, read about and cared about. I personally DONT want to hear about Ligue anymore, at least stop linking him with SOX sports section. Ligue attacked a coach DURING A GAME and INSIDE THE STADIUM. Weve been "hearing" about this for years now. Why? Tribune says the same thing, its of "interest" to people, even SOX fans want to hear more. They didnt ask me thats for sure. Every time thats brought up, the SOX look worse for it. Whatever happened to that "fan" at Wrigley a few years ago, ran on field and ATTACKED RANDY MYERS, DURING A GAME, INSIDE THE STADIUM? Myers had to fight the guy off, resulting in a brawl on the mound etc. Why wasnt that brought up ? As Much? As Often? I'll bet nobody even remembers that incident, much less the offenders name? The Trib decided that that particular event Wasnt "news", and was an "isolated incident" and not worthy of being brought up anymore. Its funny to sit in an airport and have someone say "you guys run on the field and attack coaches". Were not the only ones, I tell the person, this happened before at Wrigley and Randy myers. "Yeah right, stop lying"
  24. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 01:36 PM) You think some random Angels fan said that because the Tribune (a paper from 1000 miles away) mentioned that some people at the parade weren't Sox fans (which is true anyway)? Did it occur to you that he/she may have said that because... oh, I don't know... THEY ARE AN ANGELS FAN?! The team we beat in the ALCS?! I thought about that, but the person in question posed it to me as if he heard this 3rd or 4th hand, and openly questioned this. the fact that he "heard it somewhere" is exactly what the Trib likes to do. I told this person where that LIE originated from, a guy named Morrissey. I assured him that I was at that same parade, and it was all SOX FANS. I told him how the Chicago Police (who are in charge of estimating crowd sizes) were SURPRISED at the numbers of people (2million) and were expecting hundred thousands or so. Plant a lie, and watch how it becomes an even bigger lie down the road. thats the Trib when it comes to the SOX. How many fans have I met who think that Comiskey is "dangerous" and "stabbings" "home break-ins" and "robberies" happen outside the park all the time? If I had a dollar. But then, these same people who "heard" this, also hear that the other park is "Fun" "Safe" "good times" "historic". Where would you want to go? Wasnt Mark Twain the one who once said "Tell a Lie and watch it run halfway around the world before the Truth has a chance to tie its shoes". By the way, the Tribune owns the LA Times
  25. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) As for the next part... All you do is count articles. Please show us proof that the Tribune does what you claim concerning the content. If not, don't pass it off as fact. Man, your opening a can of worms here, where do I start, there have been so many compelling moments ..............Hmmmmmm. OH, ok everyone remembers William Ligue right? how can you not, the Trib makes sure to link all of his troubles and court dates with a quick blurb in the Trib. In Fact, they would often link his adventures in the SOX section! Has nothing to do with sports or the SOX. Well, the Trib (on the other website) commented that it Indeed had something to do with the SOX, people wanted to "know" what was happening with him, it was a major event. Both papers put that event on the Front and back Covers of their papers. it was a BS answer on the Tribs part. But when that guy got murdered after the game in front of Wrigley a couple years ago? Where was that story? It happened in front of the stadium didnt it. Well, the Trib this time decided this was a "non-baseball" issue, even though one fan was ath the game, and the other fan, was driving into the area to "party" after the game. The Trib buried it on page 3 of their Metro section called it a "traffic incident, and left it at that. Anyone remember the way some in Radio ripped on the Trib and Times for their portrayals of this? Nonsense. Well, SunTimes decides for once afterwards to take the high road, openly wonder why it wasnt on the "front page". Anyone remember the way TV crews portrayed this? CLTV and WGN BOTH made sure their cameras of the incident pointed AWAY from that bogus marquee of theirs, and towards the CubbyBear Lounge, to make you think the incident occured there as opposed to directly in front of Wrigley. We never did hear about the guy who was caught, never heard of any subsequent court dates, and basically never heard anything else about the story.
