  1. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 11:50 AM) Tell ya what, gonna change the title and unpin it for now until we know for CERTAIN. I don't trust Levine much at all for obvious reasons. Thats a good call changing the title until further confirmation. Maybe it does have something to do with Riske simply passing a physical. I hope its true, we need bullpen help
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 11:45 AM) Just when you think winning would solve everything...I wonder what Mr. Knue has to say about the video highlights, because I notice every day how they're prodominantly Cub low-lites. Oh well, time to win a couple more Championships and make this a Sox city once more. Mr. Knue doesnt like the Media Watches, I can tell you that for sure.
  3. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 10:42 PM) He's hitting .417 in 50 ABs this month, and overall, he is hitting .332 with a .934 OPS in 220 ABs. He's hitting .357 on the road, and .297 at home. How is all of this possible considering that he's a lifetime .255 hitter who will turn 32 this summer? What in the f*** is going on? Every once in a while, theres a guy who is just a LATE BLOOMER. I was thinking the same thing last nite watching him ............... He is just one of those guys, I think hes going to do this the rest of the way
  4. QUOTE(Sox1422 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 11:07 AM) Per ESPN 1000 WOW.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 10:23 AM) Did you have this story from page 2 of the Trib in your counts for yesterday? "Outside trial, Daleys talk--about Sox" Good Catch. this isnt listed online under the heading "SOX", which usually is. I will add this to the total. Ive noticed from time to time, Both papers will have a story in the paper, but not online and vice-versa. Not sure why that happens but it does. While I skimmed thru the Tribs sportspage online looking for this Daley/Sox article however, I did notice that the Trib has a section titled SPORTS VIDEOS and the Top Video apparently is ESPN analyst Rick "Im a Drunk" Sutcliffe singing the 7th inning stretch. I scrolled down and noticed its all sports related and there are 10 video clips. For what its worth, here is what the Tribune deemed important enough Chicago sportswise, to attach a video clip. 4 clips of Cubs (Drunk tv host sings 7th inning, rookie gets pie in face, Messiah update, Messiah AAA hilites) 2 clips of Rush (preparing for Arena Bowl, Win Arena Bowl) 2 clips of Bears (piece on Brown, Vasher missing) 1 clip of Bulls (rookie gets a workout) 1 clip of USAToday (columnist plugging her book for 4 minutes) Interesting.
  6. QUOTE(Felix @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 10:09 AM) I'm confused. Yesterday, the Sox were 100 less than the Cubs. Today, even though they both have the same amount of stories, its 99 less. Am I missing something here? Felix, good call. I marked the stories yesterday on my calendar, and right when I finished, saw another cub story in trib and added it to the totals (and didnt mark my calendar, which I used for today) I'll Fix now. Thanks
  7. This is pretty interesting ........... I will say this. The BEST managers are the ones who DONT have one set of rules for dealing with their players. Each player is different. Some have to be coddled and paid attention to (BigFrank, Garland) others can be left alone (Thome, Konerko) and some have to be "yelled" at ...... I think Ozz knows best what works with his players, and if it doesnt work, hes smart enough to know to change course when he has to. At least thats what I get from him, and the players all say the same thing, they LOVE playing for Ozzie. Ozzie is a very complicated guy and thats great
  8. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 09:43 AM) Saying they were WS Champs in 2005 is your only accurate non debateable statement. Glad we finally agree on something. Now how about giving me some bars close to Great American Ballpark that we can take over this weekend...
  9. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Jun 15, 2006 -> 08:22 AM) I'll be at sundays game. That is a Great signature you have. I think we need to pick a bar close to GA Ballpark to meet at and take over with Black and Silver. Im going to check with some Red fans and see what they recommend

    Hawk

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) Notice how D.J. was trying to restore some professionalism, but Hawk would have none of it. Not that I disagree with the sentiments of what Hawk was saying, but it was very unprofessional for the "voice of the White Sox" to be calling for line drives off the ptcher's kneecap and advocating waiting for him outside the clubhouse. The real problem here is the Sox are still using that outdated technology--a land line from the dugout to the bullpen. Seeing that it was in Texas, the Rangers probably intercepted the call and relayed the wrong message to the bullpen. They've been known to do things like that--ask Buerhle about the lights in CF. Hawk has ALWAYS been like this, its what endears him to SOX fans. It would be worse if BOTH announcers started saying the same thing, I like that DJ took the other side of the coin regarding that matter. I had no problem with it, as soon as AJ got hit twice, I yelled TWICE? and Hawk was right there with the viewers' sentiment. That just tells me Hawk is still in tune with whats happening, I had no problem with it. Hawk is from the old-school, you have to remember that. Trying to censor him now would just make the network and him look bad. As for the outdated technology comment, that was HILARIOUS heh heh hehe hehe ehehe
  11. Hes lucky he didnt hurt himself or anyone else ..........
  12. Chicago Tribune: 3 cub stories 3 sox stories Chicago SunTimes: 3 cub stories 4 sox stories Standings as of Thursday June 15th, 2006 Priviledged, Media Owned, Media Favored, 4th Place in 2005 Cubs 584 Underdog, Media Maligned, Media Ignored, WS CHamps in 05 Sox 485
  13. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 05:11 PM) Well one of these days, please do what my dad and I did ... take your son on a long weekend road trip, maybe get a brother and his son or something similar to go with you. My dad and myself, along with his dearest lifelong friend and his son (my "uncle and cousin") went on a once a year weekend baseball trip for 10 years until my uncle became afflicted with Alzheimers. We went to a different city every year and I am especially thinking about those trips right now because one of the best we had was Cincinnati. We drank the s*** out of Little Kings and Hudepohl, toured the brewery, went to Mt. Adams, ate Skyline Chili ... wow what a trip. I have memories to last 5 lifetimes and believe me, you will find something good in every city. I hope you get to enjoy something like this with your son, just as I've been able to do with my father. thats a very nice post ............
  14. QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 04:51 PM) If you go, watch out for those Underaged Drunk Trixies who are really 26. BTW, it was in the paper and also mentioned on Chicago Sports Tonite that she was 26, just so you know, flipflop ex-Cub fan. For the rest of you, watch for quickman at the Hofbrauhaus and also the Mt. Adams Bar and Grill and the City View Tavern, hopefully he can make all of those. what does quickman look like?
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 04:31 PM) Who is going to Cincy this weekend? What games? What bar are we frequenting before/after the game? Theres a very good chance Im going to be at these games too ............ we should pick a place to meet afterwards/beforehand. Last time I was in Cincinnati was way long time ago (met a former Sox player there, have to tell you guys that story later)
  16. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) I started this project in 2005 to see how the attendance had progressed over the season. Now I plan on keeping up with it this year as well. Those 40000+ games in October helped last year. Interesting. Its been a long long long time since I saw anything remotely about Attendance. Heres another interesting fact (Note that this WASNT played up in the media either) Last Wednesday, the SOX went over 1,000,000 people in Attendance (oops, A word) the fastest in Club History. Tells you 1. Just how far this team has come, 2. Sox Fans were always an untapped market and under-marketed before Congratulations White Sox
  17. Im sorry. Ross Gload is NOT an outfielder. And I think Ive seen enough of Mackowiak in Centerfield. In Left maybe, but NOT CENTER
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 11:14 AM) A bunch of us will be there all weekend. I'm looking forward to it, I've never been there. SO IS THERE AN OFFICIAL ROLL-CALL for those going to Cincy? I wasnt planning on going, but dang I want to go now ..................Is there a bar near the park people would like to meet at?
  19. I read somewhere that parks that have Questec, are parks that Greg Maddux magically isnt that great in. Seems those pitches way outside arent called strikes anymore ....... any truth to that?
  20. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 13, 2006 -> 02:04 PM) I remember playing in a game, my 2nd ever for this team, so they had no idea who I was or if I had any talent so thats why I was batting 9th. We have a guy on 2nd and 3rd, and for some reason, the firstbaseman is playing way way off the line practically in between 1st and 2nd. I could hear my teammates all saying 'can this guy hit', 'he sucks man', when I got the bright idea to take a late swing and see if I can hit down 1b Line. I did .................... we won the game ........and I thought man is this game Crazy What I also remember about that, was we "Practiced" for a couple of weeks, and the guys on that team didnt really make me feel all that welcome, probably because nobody knew who I was and I was pretty shy as a kid. So for like basically 3 weeks, I would be practicing and not really talking to anyone, and after that hit, my teammates were so excited we won, I was mobbed going back to the plate everyone jumping on me. That ended up being a really special summer, as it was the first time ever that I started to hit and hit regularly. My confidence grew leaps and bounds. I love baseball
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 01:23 PM) No, and I've been here 2 days and I've seen more pointless Hangar bashing than I ever did at WSI. Grow up people. It's about the stupid excuses the media makes to cover the Cubs constantly. Everything they do is a "huge" story. Cell phones in the dugout? Big deal. Ozzie could call the bullpen on his US Cellular phone and call it "new technology". It's the same thing. (sarcasm-->)But you won't hear that because the Sox have no fans and the southside is full of gang bangers and there aren't enough bars around the park. ( note how only 1 person has commented on the use of a Cell Phone in baseball and how its use might change the way communication works (felix). Im not sure what the other comments are supposed to be in favor of them? are they breakthrough? Not really? Crains Business thinks this is a big deal too, not sure why, its a CELL PHONE, theres nothing new about it
  22. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 01:15 PM) Heres the link for those who havnt seen the news lately ....... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...-sportscubs-hed SportsNite couldnt help themselves talking about this. Abc-7 even saw fit to do a special segment on this
  23. QUOTE(Hangar18 @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 01:12 PM) Excellent post by the way Felix .......... Heres the link for those who havnt seen the news lately ....... http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...-sportscubs-hed
  24. QUOTE(Felix @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) That actually would be something new, and would be breakthrough technology for baseball.. Excellent post by the way Felix ..........
  25. QUOTE(Felix @ Jun 14, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) That actually would be something new, and would be breakthrough technology for baseball.. I didnt think it was that big a deal, but apparently, the media are running wild with this the last couple of days. If they start letting outfielders wear wireless headphones ...............
