Damn, I was hoping this would be a 'type with your forehead' thread...
  2. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 30, 2007 -> 11:47 PM) Chris Rix I used to go to Bible study with him...terrible QB, but a nice guy...

  4. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 25, 2007 -> 01:04 PM) How so? It was just an interesting thought to me because he may just mean that recent immigrants are not keeping the neighborhoods in the type of condition that more-established (over many generations), better-off residents do, but it made me wonder how it compares to those other waves of first-generation immigrants he mentions. Now, personally, I don't claim to know exactly how those neighborhoods were because I was not alive to see it when past first-generation immigrants inhabited (or were forced into) certain neighborhoods, but I wonder if it was similar, better, or possibly even worse to current situations. From my limited knowledge, particularly while being bored outta my mind during my dull U.S. history class in college, I seem to recall that immigrant neighborhoods in the past were pretty bad too... And, again, personally, I think poor/bad neighborhoods are more a product of economic conditions and socioeconomic status than race. Another point that I found interesting was the claim that current immigrants are not pushing their children to assimilate as much as past immigrants have. I don't have first-hand knowledge of how it was back then, but I also wonder just how different it is. It might even be to early to judge that currently...
  5. QUOTE(Yossarian @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 03:29 PM) Recent immigrants have not treated those neighborhoods with the same respect as past residents. Interesting...
  6. Anybody else gonna join??
  7. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Aug 24, 2007 -> 08:39 AM) It really is. It reminds me of the travesties in Darfur.
  8. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Aug 21, 2007 -> 02:30 PM) I think he's talking about the big Penn State/Northwestern basketball tussles. Or Minnesota-Indiana in football. Not that either of those games won't have fans...but those will balance out the big time matchups. That's exactly what I meant. And to my understanding, the overwhelming majority of premium games won't be on that network anyways, no? That's what I meant by fringe games. I'd take that bet of those home shopping channels having higher ratings than whatever programming that big 11 channel is gonna come up with when not featuring what would basically be considered lower-tiered games. And it'll also be about 6 non-football and basketball months of sports with very minimal interest along with that programming. Honestly though, is it a channel that even the most die-hard big 10 fans will be watching much of outside of a few games? How many people are really interested in big 10 men's volleyball and softball??
  9. I agree 100% with that argument. Cable prices are way too high already to begin with (another major gripe for me, and I'm actually looking into other services). A counter-argument someone mentioned on here is that we're paying for stuff like that home shopping network that many of us don't watch, but I bet those ratings would blow away whatever a big ten networking showing fringe games would get. It seems that comcast does not want to put it on a basic cable package because it would not generate the viewership necessary for it to make sense for the price, and I think that makes sense. Yes, there is a large contingent of big 11 fans in the Chicago area, but probably nowhere near as much as some of you may think. If the NFL is considered niche, big 11 should obviously be too...by far. But if they were to get rid of a crappy channel or two that nobody watches to add it and not change the price, I wouldn't care.
  10. Would that big ten network cause any sort of price change for the basic cable package? If so, it has no business being on the basic cable package...
  11. Wimps. There's plenty of time left before the season anyways, and I prefer later drafts so that we aren't drafting preseason injury casualties and hold-outs and unclear backfields and what-not. I like the advantage of playing against inactive and neglected teams too. I'm still in.
  12. Did we do 2 QBs last year? I kinda don't like doing 2 starting QBs...
  13. Wasn't that kid an illini fan?
  14. Last year I used fox sports and really liked it. What I like about it over yahoo is that stats and scores are updated real-time instead of having to wait til the next day like in yahoo or having to pay however much it is to get that stat tracker thing. Not sure if it's like that this year, though, since the league I was in that used it last year is using yahoo this year.
  15. heidi is wayy overrated...

  21. Probably been asked before, but is the clock off for everybody or am I doing something wrong?
