QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 08:31 PM) Are we really any better? Booing DeWayne Wise on just the 2nd day of the season was pretty pathetic. For all I know his life wasnt threatened via mail, email, phone calls and racist remarks from the right field bleachers like the fans at Wrigley did to Jaque Jones, Milton Bradley, Dusty Baker, LaTroy Hawkins etc.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 07:25 PM) Something is going to have to give. I think I am being fairly optimistic to think when its time to re-up with Keith-Toews-Kane, the salary cap will be the same. Supposedly the cap is coming down this off-season, so lets say it rebounds and comes back to where it is now. After the 09/10 season, here is what is on the books RIGHT NOW Campbell-7.1 Byfuglien-3 Huet-5.675 Sharp-4.1 Seabrook-3.5 Sopel-2 Hawks sit at 25.5 right now for the 2010-2011 season. Right now, without knowing what is in store for the big 3 in 2009-2010, its probably safe to assume that the 3 together would command 18-20 million annually Lets say 18 to be nice to Tallon. Thats 43.5 for nine players. As we know, the cap sits at 56.7 right now, and I'm being optimistic thinking it will be that amount when this time comes. So with that, the Hawks will have just over 13 million dollars for 14 players. Thats not going to work. I know this post was all over the place, but I don't think any of it is very fair fetched. Tallon may have closed this teams window before it even opened. Gross. You have to think they are going to move at least 2 of those guys listed above not including Sopel. If I had to choose I would say Huet and Campbell would be my choices, but they may also be the hardest to move. -

Everyone should try this exercise if they find themselves going down the path of Soxtalk irrational thinking: Base everything for the season off of this one game like we do for our players good or bad: Adam Eaton is the Cy Young winner Luke Scott may lead the league in RBI's Carlos Quentin will hit below the mendoza line -

QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 06:59 PM) Bad Contreras + Bad Colon = Sunk Ship. s***, where is that ship going to go when Buehrle, Danks and Floyd have bad starts? Wait, Floyd already did and people on here were saying last year was a fluke. -

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 06:55 PM) danks wasnt throwing only 88mph 2 seamers with shoddy location though Is that because he doesnt have a 2-seamer? Because every pitcher has a bad game. Everyone was singing Colon's praise through his first 2 starts, one bad outing and off the ship you all go. -
Where were your threads when Colon had his first 2 good starts? Its April. We are 3 starts in. There are no better in house options right now even if the org decided to make a snap decision based on such a small sample size like you are.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 04:41 PM) Rock, thats a rather short-sighted way to look at things, and you know it. Campbell is taking up over seven million dollars on the cap. If the Hawks spent 3 million less and signed someone like Streit(a guy some of us talked about in the off-season) you still have a nice piece of change to play with for another need. On top of it, a contract like Streit is a lot easier to take on instead of the albatross Campbell's deal has already become. I don't think anyone, myself included thinks BC hasn't made an impact on this team. He has. However, he is the highest paid Hawk, and probably will be for quite some time. Over the last 2-4 months, he probably doesn't make the top 10 list for most productive Hawks. Thats unacceptable. Of course his cost is prohibitive, but his play has been as expected pretty much. He's a defensive liability, but will score 50+ points. His contract is what it costs to bring in that type of player on the market, and I'm not sure there was a person on here who was really against that signing. We are stuck with him most likely, but at the time, it was a move that had to be made. Alot of things have changed since then, not everyone wanted Havlat back, which now looks like a must-make move, and will cost us a pretty penny. And of course all of that is unrelated to the blame of every loss falling on his shoulders, which is just biased. I had to edit to add this: If his contract makes us lose Duncan Keith, I may just lose my f***ing mind. -
QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) have to love Len Kasper and Brenley spinning Samardjza (sp?). Kasper ignoring his bad September last year in talking about his progress as a pitcher. I mean, if you want you can say he had pitched more than he ever had and he might of been tired, but to ignore it and basically say he's never really struggled in pro ball is silly. Then Brenley saying the Reds got a lucky hit to score two runs when it was hit nicely up the middle AFTER the Reds were robbed of a run by the vine rule. Especially since the ball was about an inch into the vines and 100% visible and accessable to Soriano.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) I'm interested in what Jim has to say about the fans feeling, but Hawk said on a broadcast or two that he talked to people within the org and they said they're not going to change their philosophy and just cut the grass short like Texas. Even Hawk, who is in love with the Minny org, mentioned that probably won't work do to the weather differences. Thats the thing, for most of the first two months and the last month or so of the season, its going to be f***ing cold as hell. Its not the same as being down in Texas. I personally have been on the field at the Cell and I think they cut the grass pretty short, and I dont see it really upping the ground ball hit ratio like concrete covered in carpet.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 03:57 PM) If you want nonsensical, read any of your hockey posts. You have brought that quote up many times, at which point I said he would be better than Jason Williams on the PP (fact), that his play in the defensive zone leaves something to be desired (fact) and that he is not physical pretty much at all (fact). This year, his defense have been even worse than anyone thought it would be! Thanks for playing. LOL. I am glad I "played" the game with you of pointing out your ridiculous statements. Although I will give you the fact its pretty ballsy you continue to hammer the point even though you were pwned a few pages back. And with a player like Campbell, if his +/- stays positive, I consider that a pretty good season since offensively he was more effective than his putrid defensive skills. And without Campbell on this team, there is no way the Hawks are playing the Flames in the first round, they definately fall a few seeds. -

QUOTE (T R U @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) He was going to be falling down that way anyways I dont think many people saw him falling into the second round like its been projected lately. He will be a very good NFL player. -
The media likes to paint Cubs fans as very loyal followers, rooting for their team through thick and thin. The reality is that they turn on their players quicker than any other fanbase in baseball. Racism, booing, garbage on the field. Those are the true actions of Cubs fans.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Part of it is post-colonial effects, part of it is the fact that they were all run by tribes and some places never fully adapted into modern states, part of it is from only the last couple of decades where militant Islam started to come into play. I mean, isnt that region one of the oldest if not the oldest human civilizations? Havent we given them enough time to figure s*** out? I just dont get it. -
Jim, Whats the feeling in Minny about the new stadium forcing changes to the way the team is constructed? Those turf hits arent going to be there anymore for the little slap hitters and they will have to start either grooming power guys, or buying them IMO. It has to worry fans that they are basically spending their way out of the largest home field advantage in the league.

This is what I dont understand as a whole: What is it with the people in that area of the world? They cant seem to govern, they can seem to ward off threats, and its ripe with terrorist organizations. Is it race related? Is it economic? I guess I am not that into politics to know the answer. -
LOL, Z throws a ball into CF because nobody was covering. Just turned and threw it at nobody.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 01:04 PM) I was looking at adding that to my breakfast regiment. Looks pretty good. I am also looking some spagetti made from it as well, more expensive. But lets sugars in the mix. Replace regular bread if you are eating toast with Spelt bread as well.

Zambozo's fastball sitting at 89-90 MPH. Talking to the ball, and just threw away a pickoff letting the runner take 2 bases. I forsee an implosion.

I can give anyone a good 15 min ab workout to be performed 2-3 times a week. Thats about as much as you really should be doing ons abs alone. You can work your core obviously, but through other exercises like balance movements in Yoga.

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 11, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) 64 tastes better than I was expecting. Miller Lite is higher in calories and carbs than I thought. Sierra Nevada (my favorite) went directly to my gut, I only have that if I'm out. Its just MGD light rebranded. If you guys really want to eliminate weight and fat, you HAVE to cut beer out of your diet at least for awhile. If you must drink, have some clear booze with water. I would suggest cutting out drinking all together at least for a few months.

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 12:25 PM) Even though the team is poor and can't afford anyone, if Jose's struggles continue would anyone want to take a flyer on one of Byrd, Pedro or Mulder? Cause they're still out there.... Pedro, yes.

QUOTE (almagest @ Apr 23, 2009 -> 12:22 PM) So Rowand is better than a high school pitcher who didn't even sign with the team that drafted him that year, and was later a #2 overall pick at the same experience level as Rowand? I honestly don't see how that makes Rowand a good prospect. I agree that we shouldn't move Beckham up any time soon, though. Rowand wasnt really a good prospect. When he came up he was thought of as mostly a reserve player and the org was surprised at how well he handled CF to be honest. I dont think anyone expected him to become the player he was when he signed that contract with SF.
