Sox looking at Fukudome, Bay, not Rowand
RockRaines replied to beck72's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
QUOTE(beck72 @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:50 PM) IIRC, his name is pronounced Fu-Koo-Doh-me. If you are talking to me, I know. I just like the Fuk U Dome in reference to the metrodome -
QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:47 PM) Broadway most definitely. Poreda is close. Depends on whether the O's believe he'll stick in the rotation. Makes sense. I really think Lance gets a rough rep for his pedestrian stuff, he looked MUCH better than Gallagher did in the majors albeit tiny sample sizes Gallagher 14.2 8.59 ERA 3HR 2.11 WHIP 5k Broadway 10.1 IP 0.87 ERA 0HR .97 WHIP 14k

QUOTE(Vance Law @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:45 PM) Thank you. You are a sane poster. That's nice to see. Cause its his birthday that old s***

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:43 PM) No. Gallagher will not be in the top 100 at least on BA's list. BA puts his ceiling at a #3 SP and compares him to Jon Lieber. The problem is, he's better than anyone besides Gio/DLS in our system. So either the O's take a lesser prospect than Gallagher and an extra prospect, or we have to give up Gio/DLS. You think hes ranked higher than Poreda and Broadway?

QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:37 PM) Offer him 3/48 and see if anybody beats it. Ill tell you what. We sign Fuk U Dome to that contract and trade for Brian Roberts and this team automatically looks pretty tough. I wouldnt even know where to bat Fuk. 1. Roberts 2B 2. Cab SS 3. Thome DH 4. Kong 1B 5. Dye RF 6. Fuk CF 7. Fields 3B 8 AJP C 9 Quentin LF -
QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) No, that wouldn't be enough. They're going to want a stud minor league pitcher, so maybe Gio, Richar, and Sweeney for Roberts. I just don't think Angelos will trade his golden boy. Then the Gallagher reports cannot be true, because that kid is not a stud pitcher in any way, shape, or form. If they want us to blow them away in an offer, Gio will trump a majority of what the cubs are willing to offer. Quick edit: Gallagher isnt ANYWHERE on the top 50 prospects list. The cubs #1 guy is ranked 30 while Gio is ranked #24. Gallagher is their 5th ranked spect, does he even fall in the top 100?

QUOTE(Chombi @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 06:07 PM) I probably couldn't hit it but I bet i'd tip one. ha. And so I guess you're agreeing that the only way Hill is a "poor man's Danks" is age? Cuz last time potential mattered when we are discussing performance was idk...never? Hill next season will again far better then Danks. I don't think Hill has topped out yet but I do think he is close. Danks has a higher ceiling but he got bombed last year. Point to his age, fine...But why was he up then? Clearly he wasn't ready IMO and it should be noted. Meanwhile, Hill spent a good portion of the first half of the season with a sub 3 era. So like I said, we can hate on the Cubs and what have you but the guy performed and Danks didn't. Can Danks be better. Yes. Is Hill a "poor man's" version of him? Are you kidding? Hill is a poor man's MB maybe but not Danks/ Open market Danks is worth more simply because of his age. People are hoping he can hit that ceiling we speak of but I wouldn't get my hopes all the way up on that for at least 2 more years. Dude come on, a poor mans Buehrle? They have NOTHING in common pitching wise. Rich Hill is a two pitch pitcher who gets by on a spike curve and delivery deception. He is 28 years old. He has pretty much peaked ceiling wise. Danks was a 22 year old pitching a year too early in the bigs and has a MUCH higher talent level and ceiling than Hill. Hill did perform, a 28 year old is supposed to be a good pitcher, his ERA would translate into about mid 4's in our division, which by all accounts is avg, and thats basically what he would be for most teams, a middle to end of the rotation starter. Danks is worth ALOT more than Hill is on the market, and frankly to most teams.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:25 PM) Your sources say OCabrera was the White Sox #2 target. You need new sources. Please inform us all oh wise one. I dont know where I would be without your wisdom

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) Me too, he'd be a great leadoff hitter. Heck, trade Richar for him in the package. Yup. I'd think a package of Richar, Broadway and Sweeney? Would that equal about what the cubs are offering? I know Bal wants OF'ers. I dont know all that much about our prospect rankings this year.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:21 PM) KW was lead to believe they were close to getting him, believe me. Nah, ill believe the Miami sources that said that we werent all that close. One of the reasons he had any hope at all is that we were basically one of the only teams at the WM that was making a serious offer.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 11:41 PM) Yeah, I'm familar with them. Their 3rd place Anaheim finish got my interest. Probably the best the MAC has to offer again. Kent State may be decent though. We (miami) get by on confusing the opposition by playing 5 white guys at a time. -
QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:16 PM) Probably exactly why Dye called KW 2 minutes after the trade came out asking what happened? C'mon, if Orlando Cabrera was a target how come Uribe was re-signed? Kenny himself said the Angels came to him after he signed Uribe saying they were about to offer him Cabrera but then they heard about Uribe. The reports the Sox didn't wan't MCabrera real bad,and weren't upset they didn't get him were spin, Im sure Dye heard the rumors and was excited, I didnt even know that you were on the call? And he was resigned because as you well know, not all trades happen the way we want them to, and it was a smart move to have a backup plan, you know that. And if it was spin, why did it come from other cities papers and sources? Wouldnt it have come from our market?

QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) He probably also doesn't want any leaks like with Hunter. I wonder if the Sox organ-i-zation is having Iguchi and Shingo call him? I hope we get him, but I hope we don't overpay. BTW, how old is he again? 30? Overall the White Sox have treated our small sample of Asian players better than the cubs have. Not to mention playing at the Cell for a new player trying to adjust to American life is exponentially easier than having to deal with the misinformed ignorant masses in the outfield at Wrigley. That has to play a serious factor in where he would go. In fact the San Diego Asian population may play a big part as well. -
QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:14 PM) And hunter is a negative. Im sorry but half of you are claiming you want to rebuild, and Hunter would have made that so much harder. Spending money just to spend is not good business. Us not getting Hunter for that contract was such an overall win for the White Sox its not even funny.

QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) Seems to be some sentiment that the Gallagher/Murton/Cedeno rumor was bs, and it would have to be Pie with Gallagher and another good prospect included. I just don't see Angelos trading Roberts. Gallagher still isnt much, Pie maybe be a lighter hitting version of Corey Patterson, and dont think that many gm's dont know that by now. The rumor right now is that the offer was two players and after gallagher there was a disconnect. I would be interested to see where. I would gladly give up 4 5-10 ranked prospects out of our system for Roberts.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:08 PM) Depends. A lot of people thought he was hurt. He could bounce back. Vazquez wasn't too impressive in the NL the season before KW traded for him, and a lot of people were doing cartwheels KW got him. Really, Willis is a guy who could go either way, but he was part of the price for Cabrera. Vaz has tremendously better overall stuff than a gimmicky Willis.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 04:02 PM) Who, don't say Santana he's still out there. The White Sox top 2 are gone, and that's why Kenny cried. Those teams top 2's are gone too. IM sure they all cried. From what I understand, plan A was Hunter, plan B was O Cabrera, which he got. All of the reports that have come out in the last few days state that the Sox werent even close for MCab, so we didnt lose s***.

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 12:13 PM) I can't see Danks being part of a Roberts deal. Considering the "win now" mode that we are in, I think you'd see Gio or DLS go before Danks. I don't think Owens or Uribe has much trade value for the O's. If they are trading one of their premiere players, they don't want our trash. apparently we dont need to include Danks. The cubs are basically throwing a young arm and a nothing position prospect out for him. It looks like a deal we can easily top. Sean Gallagher I believe is the spect they want to send. He is a 12th round reliever who didnt have much success in his short stint last season. He was a starter in the minors. He is ranked as the #5 prospect in the Cubs system. I believe the cubs have the 18th ranked system in the league. This is a guy who was ranked behind Samardzija last season. There is no doubt in my mind we may be able to beat their offer without putting Gio or DLS in the offer.

QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 03:24 PM) And the White Sox lost out on their top 2 targets? Who else has? dodgers, giants, yankees, red sox, mets, orioles, phillies, cle, AZ, Col

I dont know if anyone posted this already, but mlbtraderumors.com posted earlier that us and the cubs are willing to give Fuk U Dome big money. Then all afternoon its been the cubs, pads and a mystery team talking to him. I think KW is trying his best to go under the radar so he wont get outbid anymore -
Mayweather is going to draw 45 million bucks for this fight.

QUOTE(rockren @ Dec 7, 2007 -> 01:09 AM) I'm ready to scrap him and get an O-Coordinator who will put the ball in the air. We have the QB in Rex to do it. With the way the NFL is now in pass interferences/illegal contact and everything else the defense isn't allowed to do....it's stupid not to throw more. Lacking the ability to incorporate our most dangerous offensive weapons and a total lack of a decent game plan is what should give him the boot. He has been just awful.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 10:35 PM) Xavier is decent, possibly good, not great. We'll see if they'll be able to beat more quality teams and not lose to teams like Miami Ohio, who is fairly average. You should check some of the games Miami has had. Not that they are a great team, but they have taken great teams down to the wire pretty regularly. -

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Dec 6, 2007 -> 06:54 PM) I'd expect nothing less from a IU homer. Guaranteeing a championship, gotta love it. A national title? I'd be extremely surprised to see a big ten team in the final four, even the elite 8.
