Official Recruiting Thread II
RockRaines replied to greasywheels121's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
You dont need to be that deep in cbb, so making some room isnt all that horrible as long as you sign back to back good classes. I've seen us hurt by it a bit if the players dont develop as fast as you like. -
GR is a beautiful city, the property value is decent but you can get alot for your money. Invest in a snowblower.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 01:16 PM) Last year they ranked in the top 50. White, Basabe and Marble are all really good players. Maybe not lottery picks, but guys that can win you games. If no one transfers or flunks out, if Woodbury gets stronger and plays anywhere near someone 7'1", they will contend for the Big Ten title next year. If they could have closed out games this year, the only team they really couldn't or shouldn't beat was Michigan. Peter Jok was rated #10 prospect in the country by Van Coleman, and they have Uthoff coming to play next year as well. McCaffery is really turning that program around. But you understand that doesnt put you near the talent level of the contenders in the conference. It looks good compared to other Iowa classes but compare that to what Crean is bringing in. Its night and day. At this point its a better goal to finish in the top half of the conference I dont think theres much of a chance of actually competing for a regular season title. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 12:47 PM) Not really. How so? Iowa is nowhere to be found in the top 50 recruiting rankings for the past forever. 2012 was a nice class but still isnt in the same realm as the top classes for conference foes. Compare that with OSU, IU, MSU, Michigan and even Illinois. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 12:40 PM) They have an outside shot next year if there are a lot of early departures across the Big 10 which is possible (would require Zeller, Oladipo, Thomas, Harris, Burke, Payne, etc. to all go pro). But their chance of winning the Big 10 would more be a result of the conference being bad than Iowa being really good. Even with that they are short on talent, existing and incoming. -

QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 12:28 PM) Fran McCaffrey seems to be on the right path. I honestly dont see them competing for a conference title anytime soon. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 11:50 AM) As an Iowa alum..........Todd Lickliter? Really? He seems like a nice guy, and probably is a decent enough coach, he was National Coach of the Year at Butler, but you throw him in a major conference, you better not give him too long of a contract or you will be paying him to coach NAIA which is exactly what Iowa is doing now. Stevens is an interesting case. If he ever leaves Butler, the expectations are going to be enormous. It would be interesting to see how he does. I'm not sure Matta himself could make Iowa a contender. But I did say FAIRLY successful. -
QUOTE (Jake @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) Airplay is definitely cool, though I no longer have a Mac Surprisingly I use it alot with my ipad too. Our office is also now equipped with this instead of projectors so everyone can present on the LCD's

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 26, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) If he follows in the footsteps of the other members of the Coach K coaching tree, he will be a bust. Hire someone from the Matta tree, its been fairly successful so far. Chris Jent or Jeff Boals are about ready. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 25, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) Roku has a store for all its apps though, last I checked Apple TV didn't, so that's one thing Roku has going for it. If you're heavily invested into iTunes, Apple TV will obviously be better. I also like the Airplay feature in Apple TV. Underrated feature.

QUOTE (farmteam @ Mar 25, 2013 -> 03:47 PM) While all this may be true, haven't there been strong whispers of NCAA violations as well as Howland generally being a jerk to players/administration? Yes, but you cant argue with his performance. -
Sox looking at Harang/Lilly/Capuano

I dont see any truth in this. If anything we have almost too many starters. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Mar 25, 2013 -> 05:31 AM) Anyone use Roku? I'm probably getting one to watch MLB.tv on my TV. Apple TV is similar. Once I got one I needed one one every tv

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Mar 25, 2013 -> 12:59 PM) I don't follow the Illini. At all. But it seemed to me that the gameplan should have been "more Brandon Paul does what he wants at the rim" and less "bunch of guys chuck threes". Great game, though. Great day all around for basketball. Groce loves chucking 3's. Its not going away unless he leaves.

Hire Howland. Minny would be more than happy with conference titles and final fours. -
An Illinois fan gave me a chuckle today when browsing their reactions

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Mar 25, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) There's a huge difference between reviewing fouls and the play last night. I don't agree with reviewing fouls, those are judgment calls. I agree with you, I dont think you should be able to review fouls at all. Out of bounds, for sure.
-
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 25, 2013 -> 10:52 AM) Illinois started college football replay after getting screwed against Michigan. Perhaps they'll get the rule changed for reviewing calls in basketball too. At the end of the day I can't blame that one blown call for the loss, but there's no good reason why we can't make sure the call is right at one of the most important points of the game. Same with the Craft block/charge. but where do you draw the line? Then you have to review all fouls because why is a charge more important than a hack? Craft was beaten down on his last second shot against Michigan and that cost them the game. Is that reviewable?

PV on wednesday.

Groce all class in the press conference. Not letting any player comment on the bad call. Smart move. Keep it positive focus on the seniors.

s***. Almost had it.
