  1. i'm basically ready to see Peavy and Hudson as the 4 and 5, but im fairly certain last time we brought a rookie up to start a game in yankee stadium while in the middle of a division race it cost the manager his job
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 07:42 PM) You know him, KW, Walker, and Cooper have job security for life. I truly feel like Ozzie did a great job during the 1st half of the year, but he's been absolutely atrocious the 2nd half of the year. really? i thought ozzie had a horrible 1st half.....how many times did we see wise and lillibridge in there unnecessarily, not to mention the countless times he refused to walk guys.......the second half, ozzies hands have been tied IMO with the pitching staff, but what can you do i still like the peavy trade, and he still has a chance to make an impact...but i honestly feel like we are at least 1 game better in the standings right now if we didn't make the deal
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 07:40 PM) Its amazing how much s*** AJP gets around here. Wait until he's gone. He will be greatly appreciated. to me, AJ is a frustrating ball player...he swings at absolutely everything, and is horrendous defensively (at least IMO)....i think hawk gives the pitchers way too much crap about guys stealing than they deserve to cover for AJ....that said the guy is a good pure hitter and has a knack for coming up with a clutch hit....and i love the way he runs the bases.....he is valuable, no doubt, but he has his shortcomings as well I've been to that taco bell many a time btw
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 07:37 PM) He was set up on the outside corner, the ball was in the dirt on the inside corner, it was almost impossible to stop. AJ's reputation is excellent for blocking balls in the dirt. then his reputation isn't accurate...he's well below average....watch a guy like dioner navarro for two innings and you can see the difference
  5. im still fuming about AJ not even trying to block that f***ing pitch btw.....there are balls int he dirt he just stabs at i feel every other game instead of blocking it...and of course hawk never says a word about it because they go way back.... his offense has been as good this year as he's had in a sox uni
  6. QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 07:29 PM) This isn't the game to get worked up over. Contreras pitching in Boston can't be a good thing. Our two best pitchers losing to the 2nd worst team in the AL at home? Those games were a f***ing embarassment. yeah but when you team spots your pitcher a 3 run lead, expectations change a little bit
  7. unequivocally, the worst move of kenny williams tenure has been the Jose Contreras extension
  8. get your goddamn ass down and block the f***ing ball once in a while AJ he doesn't even try to f***ing block it ....just stabs at it...he's horrendous back there and nobody on this board will convince me otherwise
  9. make a pitch here jose and get out of this with limited damage
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 07:16 PM) He looks like Seinfeld's bookie. and ortiz looks like the ball and chain guy from mario 64 christ almighty jose
  11. god kevin youkilis is good....this scares me...he's so underappreciated nationally IMO...especially since the boston guys usually get tons of fanfare
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 07:07 PM) Contreras 3-5 with an 8.68 career ERA against the Red Sox, but mostly as a member of the Yankees. He did manage to get at least one FB up to 95 tonight, Bucholz has been 94-96 pretty consistently. C'mon Jose...NO WALKS. Jose's performance against the red sox is basically what punched his ticket out of new york....his first two starts he got lit up like a Xmas tree IIRC....that was a different boston O back then though...not that this one is bad, but they had some ridiculous offensive teams in the middle/early part of this decade
  13. its amazing how many of jose's wild pitches lead to a run in one way or another
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) Alexei and its not even close. There should be a disclaimer at the top of the board that keeps mentioning he's a rookie at the position for god sakes. this really depends on what you want to believe. according to the organization the guy is a natural SS and he played there for years in cuba. now there have been contrary reports that have said his real natural position was CF (which i tend to believe), so if that is true, you are right ,and he is learning SS. but if you trust KW and ozzie the guy has been playing SS for years and "would make us forget about ozzie ever playing SS"
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 12:17 PM) But herein lies the problem. Alexei has been this shortstop, since day 1. He isn't improving. When he first showed up like this in April and May, I was all for giving him some leeway, as he learned the position. But he isn't doing that, so, I personally would be in favor of him moving to another position, depending on how the offseason plays out. Given Beckham's quick adjustment to 3B and his career as an SS, I'd be surprised if he couldn't do better. But again, this really depends on who is available for the various IF positions going into 2010. and alexei is playing his "natural position"....while beckham is not now that we have solidified center field, im not sure what to do with alexei...I find it laughable that the organization had him in CF opening day last year but refused to look at him for the OF...if pods doesn't come back, and one of dye/thome don't I'd still look at him in LF (with quentin in right), but heaven knows the organization won't....one way or another he is likely our SS for the remainder of his contract. now the bigger question is where to keep beckham long term 2b or 3b, but that will likely be 3b, though it should be partially dictated based on our other options at those spots
  16. valentin was a butcher on routine plays (leading to alot of errors), but had superior range (at least according to most metrics) alexei is a butch and has average to subpar range according to those same metrics....gimme valentin
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 23, 2009 -> 03:06 AM) Slayer would easily be the #1 pick if the 08 Draft was redone. Thats why if it comes down to two shortstops named Beckham, pick the one that's stellar in college over a high school one. I'll take the more polished guy every time. i dont know that this is necessarily true...as i think some teams would still have taken buster posey, justin smoak, brett wallace and pedro alvarez have all shown flashes of brilliance...but gordon would definitely be in the conversation, and likely would be ahead of tim beckham
  18. i said it when it happened, and i'll say it again now, i wish we never let charlie haeger go
  19. with the probability of the sox not spending much this offseason after the peavy and rios acquisitions, the only way id give up on fields this offseason is if i'm absolutely sold on chris getz or jayson nix at 2b.....and i'm not sold on either
