My God Al Davis is a moron....though I often understand that picks in the top 5 aren't as valuable as they seem due to contractual demands...though with a team like the patriots and the NFL looking more and more like an uncapped league in the future, it doesn't really matter....

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 11:45 PM) Danks also stole a base. Seth Loman got back into the swing of things with a 3-6 night. Loman had a homer, a 2b, and 2 RBI's. Not a bad year from a kid we plucked out of the independent leagues. as long as he doesn't whistle in the elevator

QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 02:17 AM) 44 doubles for cj. that guy can flat out hit. great find by the sox. im excited to see where he goes from here those doubles have a chance to turn into HR eventually, and if that happens Retherford has a chance to be a solid major leaguer

Sox at Twins September 1st game thread

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 05:56 PM) No. Apparently moving from LF to RF is similar to moving from DH to SS. haha seriously, if we are giving up, and it appears that we are .....i just hope we use september to really evaluate our guys...and I wouldn't mind evaluating a few guys at different positions (beckham at ss and maybe 2b) quentin in RF...I'd love to potentially see Alexei in the OF (left?) but that won't happen either as i stated in another thread, I still would be willing to give Fields a shot to play 3b next year with Beckham potentially playing 2b. I certainly am not sold on Getz though I think he has value. I'm just saying i dont know that getz at 2b and Gordon at 3b is any better than Fields at 3b and Gordon at 2b -
QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) 1. We got 26 year old High-A SS Justin Fuller for him. AND we sent money to LA. 2. He's a complete class act. He didn't deserve to go just because Kenny was pissed. 3. We should've traded Dye instead. IMO, we should have kept Thome for next season as a middle-of-the-order LH bat. 4. We could have kept him one more year and had him retire as a member of the White Sox. That would have been nice seeing as he's one of the best LH power-hitters of all time. 5. I'll miss you Big Jim. it was a favor to Thome. Its clear we weren't going to pick up his option and likely weren't going to resign him next year. I know Kenny told Jim about the dodgers the day before the trade and Thome talked to Coletti the night before about it. I'm fairly certain it was Thome's option. It was a nice thing for Kenny to do, and it alleviates the current OF logjam and allows us to take a look at youngsters like flowers in september. I also think Fields deserves another look at 3b, and hope the Organization looks at beckham at middle IF during september.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 02:58 PM) 6 GB. I hope Minnesota sweeps us. i never like for us to lose, and i don't think theres a huge difference in drafting say 14th instead of 11th...but in this case, i agree with you, because right now we would be drafting 14th, and there is a SIGNIFICANT difference in drafting 16th and 14th, in draft pick protection for type A free agents, so we best not fall in that lower half of the draft...although i can't see us necessarily signing type A guys -

that was gone most ball parks, but that said...i can't believe how tiny this park plays.... the linebrink contract is up there with the contreras extension as one of few terrible kenny williams moves...eveyone around the league called us crazy when we signed him for that much and worse, for that long -

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 27, 2009 -> 04:43 PM) We changed the sports-pub up and set-up specific sub forums for basketball, hockey, and football. That way all of those threads went in there but there is still a sports forum for the more generic sports. It breaks stuff up a lot and maybe that is a bad thing, but it would also keep things clean and maybe encourage a lot more generic sports debate as opposed to sticking stuff in these one massive threads. What do you all think? yes. I liked the NFL talk and NBA that went on here better before the split of talkbears and talkbulls....it was way easier when it was centralized and you could get all sports in one spot.....now it seems like those sites really struggle to maintain consistently good Chatter (talkbears gets a decent amount of posts, but the quality is horrendous compared to what is here and what used to be here IMO). and honestly the existence of those sites deteriorates from the quality of the NFL, NBA, NHL talk here IMO. I wish those sites were never made and soxtalk was just the big center for them all

theres no definitive answer as to who is the 3rd best qb (or even the top 2 in the league frankly)...does Rivers have the ability to be the best QB in the league? I certainly wouldn't be surprised if is the best qb this year. That said, can tony romo or ben roethlisberger have better years than Rivers this year? Certainly. Personally, i'd like to see Rivers repeat his year last year before I annoint him as the best of the non-Manning Brady QBs, but certainly I'll admit he might be. Warner has a terrific body of work for his career, but does that mean hes a top 3 or 4 QB in the league right now? I doubt it. Its really hard to compare Kurt Warner to Phillip Rivers because one is past his prime, the other is in the heart of it. For me I break up the list as follows, and in order of how I perceive their abilities. Established guys still in their primes, but on the downside Manning Brady Brees Warner McNabb (maybe he slides ahead of warner) The Up and Comers hitting/just in their primes Rivers Cutler Roethlisberger (IMO he's given too much credit ....been on great, great teams with good recievers, running games, defenses) Eli Romo Now for 2009-2010, who will be the best? It could be any single one of those guys....and matt ryan probably should be thrown into the mix as well. It isn't until after guys careers are over that we are able to say who the better player was, simply because the NFL season is too short, and too much variability occurs year to year in only 16 games. Back in the mid 90s when guys like Favre, Aikman, Marino, Elway, and Young were in the league (and even Montana at the end)...it was impossible at the time to say who the best was, but now looking back I think its much easier to come up with a logical and more accurate ranking

if theres one thing i'm slightly angry at, its myself for allowing my expectations to heighten a tad....you can go back through any thread from the beginning of the year and i said that i thought this was .500 team with an outside shot at winning maybe 85ish games....shame on me for thinking maybe we were an 87 win team that had a chance to win 89 or so....i should have just stayed with my initial unemotional analysis of this team -
QUOTE (DaveBrown85 @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 08:42 PM) AGREED! I also hate Zach Zaidman 1.) zach zaidman covers the bears for the score and he is excellent and 2.) we are just now realizing how worthless cowley is?

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 12:57 AM) Mitchell probably isn't on the same track Beckham was. It's likely we'll see Mitchell there next fall though. there hasn't been a prospect i can remember in the last decade that has been on the same track beckham was, for any organization QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2009 -> 01:26 PM) So this means Viciedo won't be in Chicago in September... interesting. his .692 OPS in AA doesn't exactly scream "major league ready"
