  1. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 30, 2008 -> 01:02 PM) this needs it's own thread IMO You're right. Sorry.
  2. On a tangent... Why is the gay marriage issue not covered honestly in any form of media? The term "marriage" has two distinct meanings. One is a holy sacrament in the church; the other is a legal contract granted by the government. I don't think anyone is saying that churches should be forced to marry any couple that they do not want to marry. What they are saying is that the government should not discriminate against people when they grant contracts of marriage.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 30, 2008 -> 08:58 AM) Its funny, it looks to me like their recent tactic has been to play both sides of that fence. They run articles saying its over, and they start to focus on Obama v McCain... but at the same time, their pundits will talk about how Puerto Rico is Clinton's last chance. She still has a chance? About as much chance as I have of going to the Oscars with Scarlett Johanssen. It's not very likely.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 29, 2008 -> 05:53 PM) I also find it odd that they have more say in the primaries than many states do. Well, in any other year, they wouldn't have gotten any say. It's just an anomaly of this year's race.
  5. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ May 29, 2008 -> 01:01 PM) Godd*mn, Mplssoxfan, what makes you think you can come in here and tell us what to do? It's like you're the damn Gestapo or something. . . sheesh. One more outburst from you, and I'll send you to the Russian Front! [/Gen. Burkhalter]
  6. I'll give you "Wild Blue Yonder!"
  7. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 29, 2008 -> 09:42 AM) Back in the days of "cheap" oil, the big airlines probably laughed at LUV for hedging, because it meant spending a little extra money. It was an insurance policy. Now its LUV who is laughing. Laughing all the way to the bank. They can undercut the big guys by a greater margin and still increase their profits. Nice.
  8. Can we have a Godwin's Law guideline in here? I want to edit this to say that I'm not singling Knightini out. I'm just a little weary of how quickly some things degenerate to Nazi/Hitler comparisons that are approximately 99% unwarranted.
  9. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 28, 2008 -> 03:39 PM) Did they use that on February 23? They should have.
  10. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 28, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) Just as an aside, I found this funny when I was looking at some info on the keffiyeh: That is funny. How soon will a "Buy Palestinian" campaign start?
  11. I own a black-and-white patterned scarf. I wear it to stay warm. I also have a hat made of rabbit fur in Russia. Does that make a supporter of Lenin, Stalin, or Putin? I like to think it makes me warmer than most people. If you can show me the Palestinian flag on Rachael Ray's scarf, then I'll agree that this is an egregious show of support from Dunkin' Donuts to the Palestinian cause. Otherwise, I'll just figure that she was wearing a scarf, and Malkin is full of crap, as usual.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 28, 2008 -> 09:28 AM) Why is this such a problem? I mean, I'm no Phil Gramm fan, so I'm not sure I think he's a great choice for McCain in that role. But if you are going to have people on your economics committee, then chances are, some will be current or former lobbyists - that isn't necessarily a bad thing. If one of the things you're stressing is independence from lobbyists, the fact that your principal adviser on the economy -- a man who helped craft your response to the subprime mess, in fact -- is working as a lobbyist for one of the banks most hurt by the subprime mess, well, I think that could raise some eyebrows. Add Gramm's record as a Senator, specifically the work that he did that enabled the Enron fiasco, I think that criticism of McCain for using him as an adviser is warranted.
  13. No question that Obama should know his history better, but this was an old family story he was relating. I'm certain that at some point in the telling and retelling of this tale, Buchenwald got changed to "a death camp", and "a death camp" got changed to Auschwitz, since, IMO, that is the place that most people who weren't in the war think of when they think of death camps. The story is sort of a 60 year game of telephone.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2008 -> 03:48 PM) I find is irritating that so much attention has been focused on the occasional verbal gaffes of Obama and McCain. Not only are they silly things to dwell on, but let's put this in perspective here - neither of them are nearly as prone to them as Dubya is. Not even in the same ballpark. And yet, the MSM continues their laughable slide into becoming "A Current Affair", providing us with a deluge of pedantic and idiotic fodder for the pounce-and-denounce crowds to use as artillery. Ridiculous. If these sorts of things are what make you choose McCain or Obama, then I respectfully hope that you get lost on the way to the voting booth. Concur.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 27, 2008 -> 03:20 PM) He was at a meeting at McCain's ranch this past weekend, yes. That meeting is looking more and more like a, "Gee, I like you guys, but don't count on getting a call from me to be my running mate", affair.
  16. QUOTE (Cknolls @ May 27, 2008 -> 09:45 AM) Does he lie or just embellish? Over the weekend Obama said his uncle was among the troops that liberated Auschwitz???? Was he in the RED ARMY? I haven't seen this. Do you have a link?
  17. Crackdown on corrupt Border Patrol officers, per the NYT. Probably not a good idea to disband the Internal Affairs unit, I guess.
  18. Happy B-Day! I heard 41 is the new 39.
  19. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 25, 2008 -> 09:35 PM) As great as Carlos has been, I want to point out that without this rotation, you'd be looking at possibly the worse team in baseball. All I can say is that hopefully Q keeps kicking ass and that some of the other bats finger things out (or Kenny finds other guys who can). And to the pitching...keep on being BOSS!!!! Half empty.
  20. QUOTE (shipps @ May 23, 2008 -> 08:07 AM) That is the lamest musical lineup I have ever seen. Don't be dissing Kool and the Gang, man!
  21. In Ball Four, Jim Bouton asks a similar question. I don't have the book in front of me, so I'll have to paraphrase. "If you offered a pitcher a pill and told him it would guarantee him 20 wins, but it would take five years off his life, would he take it? Most would." It's a tough dilemma for guys. The money's so big that I can't fault a lot of guys for doing what they did.
  22. During our just-finished meeting, our delivery manager stated that a number of drivers have threatened to quit if the delivery charge isn't raised. People are always going to drink, though, so my job's safe.
  23. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ May 22, 2008 -> 09:08 AM) Politeness? Thanking John for considering him, making sure you stay on his, and others, lists for the future? Free food? I have since read stories that state that the time at the ranch is more akin to having friends in for the long holiday weekend, so I withdraw my question. I've been to Sedona, and it's very nice. I'm certain the McCain's place there is very, very nice.
