  1. Robbie and Varlo are so replaceable it's not even funny. Colon is less so, but again, anything over 8 Mill for him veers into "diminshed returns". Clutch (as I view it): Colon was 1-1, 3-60 ERA against the Twins, which is sorta good until you realize that he got very lucky not to get smoked the second game I mentioned above, the fact trhat he gave up 17 hits in 15 innings and struck out only 1 batter more than he walked. Was very mediocre in terms of actual pitch quality. Colon had 4.40 ERA in two starts against the Cubs. Not exactly stud numbers. Against our would-be oppenent in Disivsional Series, Yankees? .308 batting average against in 2 games. Enough said. Not exactly worthy of 20+ % of payroll, is he?

"f*** me, Santa" Gilmore Girls will never be the same.
  3. If he is indeed clutch (I don't have the numbers but I doubt it) AND his overall ERA is 2.75, then give him the 10 Mill fii you want. But his ERA is 3.90 in a s***ty-hitting division, he is not very young anymore, his velocity declined a little and he has too many innings in his arm, is fat and mechanically unorthodox. 12 Mill? No way.
  4. Trust me what I say it, 2002 Giants nor 2003 Cubs would have been where they were (few outs away from winning the WS- since Cubs absolutely outplayed the Marlins in the first 5.8 games, I think they would haver beaten the Yankees) without Lofton setting the table. That b**** was absolutely unstoppable when they needed him. And since I don't Rowand can hit RHP-ing and that Jeremy Reed should start the year in AAA, getting Lofton for under 2 Mill will be a good idea. As long as Sox stay in contention, he'll be good. If we start slowly, he's done.
  5. 1. The season does not consist of 3 dates. 2. I remember the 6 inning/2 run game against Minny at USCF. Colon did NOT win that game- offense, defense and general luck did. Bartolo was VERY hittable that evening and even mediocre Minnesota hitters smoked LINE-DRIVES all over the place-- Valentin leapt up to take a 2-run gapper away from Doug Jones and Bartolo himself saved another 2 runs by sticking out his glove in desperation on Danny Hocking's liner up the middle and somehow the ball ended up in the glove.....Meanwhile, Valentin and Olivo got two flukey bloopers off Lohse in the 1st.....In reality, pitch quality wise, Bartolo should have been tagged for 5-6 runs in 5 innings-- more if he pitched like that against the Red Sox or Tankees in the playoffs.
  6. Oh common, Tolly: 1. Ventura had good years in a hitter's park in NY. He was bad in 2003, but I don't think he is done. He ain't no Rickey Henderson. 2. Crede can post a 850 OPS or a 650 one. You simply DON'T know. High risk. And it's not like he is all that great on the pads or with the glove. Ventura will be able to hit against RHP if Crede struggles out of the game or if we don't find Konerko's replacement at 1B. 3. One million a year for a fan-favorite Robin is GREAT for the Sox even if he ends up being a platoon.
  7. Yes, but limit them to 70 and I can see a 45-Mill-but-with-a-great-GM-and-farm-system small market teams smoking those behemoths' asses year in and out.
  8. See, I always suspected that under 14's Miss Perfect veneer dwelled a heartless, psychopatic b****!
  9. When will you jealous lamo-socialists realize that some are born to have and some- to have not. It's, like, what nature itself intended and stuff.
  10. BeGOOD is like a girl who is so impossibly sweet and cute that you want to smother her with a pillow while she is angel-sleeping......just to see if God will strike you down right there and then.
  11. Am I missing something here? What is this "on the ____th day of 'mas" stuff?
  12. You know what I realized last year? My principles (and my time) are MUCH more valuable to me than even a White Sox World Series. Not money (and I don't have a lot of it), mind you, but self-respect that comes with saying and doing the right thing. Another off-season/April bulls*** will not be tolerated. I guess I AM growing up afterall, slowly but surely.
  13. Oh the incomprehensible lightness of BigHurtBeGood! Good lord.
  14. True. And if Sox start out the season 9-17 because 1) by paying 20+ % of the payroll to Colon they pretty much ensured that Uribe, Rowand, Harris, Adkins start in place of Valentin, Cameron, Robbie and Lightenberg, etc and 2) complacent, overpaid Colon has little incentive to bust his ass and post a sub-4.00 ERA, especially if things go sour.........I will simply not go to or watch a single game for the remainder of the season, also not caring what "anyone else thinks". I believe there a bunch of people like me out there, espcially among the Sox Army.
  15. For what?! Near 4.00 ERA despite pitching in one of the weaker-hitting divisions of the decade if not all time? He deserves to LOS a million from last year's salary. In any case, it looks like I am going to be breaking a lot of stuff very soon.
  16. I wouldn't be Brando if I didn't get to embarass myself once in a wee, er, while. Delayed apologies to CW. My presumption was out of line and stupid. I should know better.
  17. Any reason why my Dec. 7, 5:14 PM post was DELETED? WTF is this, it didn't even have swear words or racial content in it. I know it was CW which is funny cuz the post was pro-Em.
  18. Judging from pictures and interviews, he had old-school charm about him and a keen mind, tho. How did he accumulate his wealth?
  19. Now that Coloniks is in arbitration, I hope they give him 7-some mill and I welcome him back.
  20. If we lose Lee, make Cameron happen.
  21. 1. I have no respect for Judy. Cocky air-head who probably won't amount to much. Might have topped out. I don't know why everyone and their mova consider him "super-talented": his 94-95+ fastball is all but a memory; his curve is bad; his slider is bad; his change is average and his fourseamer has little movement. The ONLY thing that saves him is a sinker. 2. It appears Sully is gone. Good-riddance. That makes Kock and Ownedweiss all that more important. Danny Wright will be a solid long man cuz he won't have to conserve or hold anythnig back and can once again be effectively wild. None of that 90 mph fastball finesse garbage. How awesome would it be if we could send Konerko and 2 prospect to LA for Perez and Ventura.
