  1. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 19, 2014 -> 09:19 PM) Carbonell is a 6’3″, 220-pound switch-hitter with four years of pro experience in Cuba. He's known for his speed and power and is considered by some to be a five-tool player. That's all I've got on him. You tell me. Where's Cubano? Maybe he could fill us in. Anyway, if he's a plus defender I say the Sox should make a very serious effort to sign him. Sox desperately need another good OFer and we've had good success with free agents from Cuba.
  2. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 19, 2014 -> 09:15 PM) He has 5 offers, one of them rumored to be from us but unlikely How highly is he rated? Is he supposed to be major league ready or is he a longer term prospect?
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2014 -> 09:00 PM) Yes, but isn't that what the coach who gives thumbs /down sees? Stone said right away he missed it. One would hope Alexei knew if he touched it or not and that he would tell his coaches/manager the truth.
  4. On another note, the interaction between Alexei and Eaton after the play at 1B puts to rest any speculation that there is a problem between them.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) The Sox don't have enough Cubans in the line up. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) Yeah, they're down one big one for sure. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:28 PM) No wonder they're playing defense like it's 2013- they only have the 2013 Cubans playing. Anybody know anything about Daniel Carbonell? A 23yr old Cuban OF free agent. Would he be worth the Sox pursuing?
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:27 PM) The Sox don't have enough Cubans in the line up. Yeah, they're down one big one for sure.
  7. QUOTE (JoshPR @ May 19, 2014 -> 08:04 PM) Yeah but the defense doesn't catch the ball pitchers tend to nibble trying to get swings and misses instead of trusting the defense. Good point.
  8. QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:58 PM) Yep whether GB makes the play or not Mr.Carroll needs to go. Carroll is just an emergency stop gap. The only reason he's here is because Paulino sucked, Sale is fragile, Danks lost his velocity due to surgery and Johnson mysteriously lost his velocity for some unknown reason. I can't help but pull for guys like Carroll and Noesi. But I agree, once Sale comes back, Carroll has to go.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:54 PM) The Sox are crazy if they rush back Sale while he has any soreness at all (he said his lat is sore). I agree. And the defense isn't going to play any better just because Sale threw the double play ball instead of Carroll anyway. Make sure he's 100% before you activate him.
  10. QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:49 PM) The poor fielding is obscuring the real problem which is starting Noesi, Danks, and Carroll back-to-back-to-back. No, the real problem is the Sox aren't making routine plays.
  11. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:47 PM) I didn't know defense was being specified. Davidson hit very well last year. I was talking all around both defense and offense but the comment was posted after misplays by Beckham and Semien.
  12. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:40 PM) I strongly disagree. I love what Micah Johnson's been doing. I also think Matt Davidson will turn it around. I heard Micah Johnson is bad on defense and Davidson was never known as a plus defender and he hasn't proven he can hit yet.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:36 PM) Three "errors" this inning. Two bad decisions and throws by Eaton and the original misplay by Beckham that wouldn't have been ruled a hit in any other stadium in America. If Semien catches the ball at 3B and Dunn doesn't miss the cutoff those throws result in 2 outs.
  14. Now it's Dunn's turn to screw up on defense.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 19, 2014 -> 07:31 PM) 30+ pitches already. Not a very good throw by Eaton at all. Gordon smartly tags up and gets to 2nd base. Are you kidding? He had him dead to rights at 3B.
