  1. Yep, then they rehired Al Lopez but he had to quit in early '69 due to illness. Then they hired Don Gutteridge. BTW, Thank you for your service!
  2. Yeah, I didn't start following baseball until 1968. If I remember correctly, I think the Sox lost the first 10 games that season. That was the auspicious beginning of my White Sox fandom.
  3. Good post. Veeck came up with the "rent a FA" strategy after free agency came around which was actually a pretty innovative strategy at the time. '77 was probably for me my third most fun season as a White Sox fan. Number one would be 2005 of course with '72 (the season of MVP Dick Allen) being the second most fun, followed by '77 then '71 ("The Sox have risen"), then 2000. Even though they didn't make the playoffs in'71, '72 or '77, I enjoyed those seasons more than '83, '93, 2020 or '21. Those '70s teams were a lot of fun to watch on TV as well with Harry Caray, Jimmy Piersall, Dizzy Dean, and Satchel Paige. Good times!
  4. I still remember (and still resent) when the Sox fired Jimmy Piersall from the post game show for criticizing LaRussa after a bad loss. I never liked the Einhorn/Reinsdorf organization.
  5. I didn't like LaRussa the first time he was here. Was against JR hiring him back. But I never thought he would be this bad. This is just ridiculous. JR has got to go.
  6. Well, Beckham does have "that face."
  7. Oh, I agree. But as a 1B playing out of position in the OF, he did a good job keeping that runner from scoring for the time being anyway.
  8. He faked out the runner. No way was he going to get to that ball.
  9. This is what the White Sox are. Remember last year a lot of people thought they were just coasting the last couple of months to get ready for the playoffs, then they were going to turn it on when it really mattered. It doesn't work that way. The Sox are good enough to make the playoffs playing in a weak division. But it's a flawed, injury prone roster managed by a bad manager. Disappointing result after suffering through the rebuild.
  10. It's a good name for a double cheeseburger though.
  11. Too many injuries. Lousy Manager. Lousy front office. Too many 1B/DH types playing out of position. The players they expected to be their "core" to build around did not pan out to be as good as they thought.
  12. It was a hollow core.
  13. Don't worry. Just wait until they "flip that switch!" ? Still waiting since last summer!
  14. Too late. I was advocating trading him and Moncada over a year ago. Probably could have gotten quite a haul for those two back then. Now, not so much.
  15. Eloy and Yoan were the wrong guys to try to build the team around.
  16. TLR threw this game away. Screw him - and JR and RH as well.
