  1. Never a doubt in my mind. It's always management's fault.
  2. Here is also part of the issue. It says it in the definition. It is an attempt to look at only the factors that the pitcher can control. Does looking at only these factors control enough of the variance of all factors involved in scoring runs.
  3. Sure but personally I would look at the K/BB ratio or WHIP instead. FIP does that as well but it also factos in HR. If you look at HR you need to look at the park factor and down the line.
  4. This is what I've seen as well and is part of the issue. People look at FIP because it is better than looking at ERA. However, the only thing FIP predictsis ERA. So you are correct in saying that that FIP doesn't really predict future performance. FIP only states that if the strikeout/walk ratio doesn't change he is likely to have a higher ERA. However, it seems fairly common sense that the more batter you walk (and don't negate with strikeouts) the more likely you are to have a higher ERA. Thus a higher FIP doesn't truly predict much of anything. Thus it is accurate to say he has given up fewer runs than the K/BB ratio says he should, whether that is due to good defense, weather conditions or just plain luck.
  5. Where is the research that shows it predicts anything besides FIP or xFIP. The most important thing for a pitcher is to prevent runs from scoring. Does it have any predictive value there? Or is it simply "we think if you strikeout more and walk less batters, you will give up fewer runs."
  6. KW always had a good response for this. The attendance is the one unknown variable in the revenue. The advertising, broadcasts rights and such are know before the season. KW said the attendance can determine if they can add payroll at the trading deadline because that could increase their revenue more or less than what they expected. This was always misconstrued as "if the fans don't show up, we won't add players." But it was purely based on economics.
  7. True because the players on the field are the only ones they need to pay. It's not like they have scouts or front office workers or tickets sales people or anything.
  8. This really isnt surprising because the gain referred to here is percent gain. Of course the team that draw the most fans and have the highest revenue are at the bottom. They made the most money so the revnue sharing part is going to be the least percent gain. Conversely the sox who had the lowest gate total will have a higher percent becausethey started out with the lowest. Its a purely mathematical discussion and is really somewhat useless. Look at the list as a whole, the clubs that made the least amount of money on gate are at the top and the ones that made the most are at the bottom. This is because the 31% sharing is a larger part of 86 million and a lesser part of 386 million. It has nothing to do with any other source of income like parkingor concessions.
  9. It shouldnt effect him too much while hes young. He will have some soreness and swelling but it should be manageable, depending on fhe size of the defect. He will start to have issues earlier than most people with arthritis type issues though.
  10. That would have ended my engagement immediately.
  11. Yep. Then it would impinge in the joint and cause the inflammation and pain he was feeling.
  12. I do think that he is a better pitching coach than most because of a few of his basic philosophies (or maybe its becuase he agrees with mine). 1. Everyone doesnt need to have the same mechanics. He works with what they are comfortable. 2. Dont throw as hard as you can all the time, take something off and create more movement. 3. Stand tall, throw downhill and throw early strikes. His history has shown that the sox usually have a good, healthy pitching staff. They just arent doing well this year. No one is always going to perfect. People have down years. Once a better quality of pitcher shows up, rodon, kopech, etc., it will improve.
  13. Tell them the Cubs will steal their chicken nuggets as well.
  14. Whether he is effective or not, he is not going to criticize the pitchers in the media.
  15. What do you expect Cooper to say publically? My guys suck. I dont think any coach could do much with this talent. He really only has a handful that are really worth much.
  16. Shields also. They are about equal for hitting prowess.
  17. NCAA lacrosse tournament is on. 4 games today, 4 tomorrow.
  18. The sox have the cubs right where they want them. The cubs always have difficulty scoring runs for a few games after a game where they score more than 10 runs.
  19. Best thing that could happen to him and the sox. He needs to learn how to bounce back from failure before he gets to the MLB. Thats the purpose of the minors.
  20. This usually happens with repeated ankle sprains or a single traumatic impact. This is a big deal. This is the cartilage that covers the bone. He will have exposed bone in the joint. That flap of cartilage wont cause inflammation any longer but that exposed area will get sore and eventually expand. He will be a case for a joint resurfacing or a total joint replacement later in life. This issue is essentially traumatic arthritis that most people get in the knee.

    5/9 Games

Thats a pretty high success rate for prospects. As someone else said, its highly unlikely most of these prospects become major league regulars.
  22. Sounds like my wifes philosophy. ?
