  1. No doubt. Howver i think acquiring talent in desperation for one last try vs. continuation of success will be a different situation. If they are sucessful in this rebuild, I will give them the chance to continue it. If the rebuild isnt a success then neither of us neec to worry about it.
  2. Those assets the sox had to trade were acquired and signed to deals by the same front office. This group has never had the opportunity to do a complete rebuild. Theo has never done a rebuild without having one of the highest payrolls in baseball. The white sox will never have the resources that the red sox or the cubs had to work with. Both are unknown but I would be willing to give the sox group the benefit of the doubt because of the talent they have recntly acquired. They have about 3 years to prove they can produce a consistent winner.
  3. I would somewhat disagree. I'm not sure the cubs group could do it without spending huge contracts on pitchers. The Sox group has used assets to acquire all inexpensive players in a number great enough to allow a few to fail and still have enough. Now they will be judged on the results of this group.
  4. This is true, if it's needed. Hopefully if all goes well they won't need to spend it on a FA. I would prefer to go the Houston route and trade for the contract in the middle when you know they are still performing well like verlander and McCann.
  5. Im betting the sox bring up Kopech before Jimenez.
  6. Hopefully all of this will also be said of the white sox acquisitions as well. That is the goal of the rebuild. Acquire the talent so they dont need to take a chance on big money FA.
  7. So its not the money and effort by the frint office and owner but every player must pan out. Houston whiffed on Aiken and other draft picks yet they won. Does that make their rebuild a failure? If jimenez produces like altuve is that a success?
  8. The sox rebuild also includes spending 50 million on Luis Robert. That makes them about even.
  9. The true test of the rebuild isto not needto spend the money on a free agent. If people want to follow the Houston model, there isnt a significant free agent there.
  10. He and Cease have the classic power pitcher mechanics and follow through. I really like to see that.
  11. They were testing it to see how it would react to full speed competition. Once it was determined he couldnt play at full speed, they stopped him.
  12. Its fine as long as they maintain flexibility. Injuries happen when athletes compete regardless of how well they train.
  13. There are plenty if negatives. One of the worst was when Herm chipped out Greg Walkers teeth during an on field seizure. No one is perfect in medicine. Thats why its called the practice of medicine. This staff is just better than the average staff.
  14. I would trust the medical staff to determine if he should play. In hindsight it was too soon but this staff has a pretty good track record.
  15. He hit the longest HR Ive ever seen at Comiskey. In BP for the All Star game he hit one that cleared the concurse in right center and hit the wall on the fly. If he wanted to he could have led the league in HR instead of hits each year early inhis career.
  16. Someof it the ball. Some of it is the different philosophy of hitting. Today strimeouts and swining for homeruns on every pitch is the preferred way. This is drastically different from other eras when sacrificing power for hits and manufacturing runs was preferable.
  17. No just rub dirt on it and get back out there.
  18. While spin rate wasnt always measured, thats always been the purpose of pine tar. Listen to Steve Stone talk about tr66ing to improve grip to get better spin and movement on a curve ball. Or like giolito early in the year when the cold wouldnt allow him to grip the ball and he couldnt throw the curve as well.
  19. Pitchers have always used pine tar to get a better grip on the ball and to make the movement increase.
  20. Want to hear something really scary? In the 80's when ACL reconstructions were faitly new, we would keep them in a cast for 12 weeks. It was no wonder it was difficult to return to sports after that injury.
  21. That is an extremely conservative protocol. It really outdated. The most recent reference is from 2003. An athlete will be back earlier than that protocol allows post-surgical.
  22. He did not have surgery. I believe I read it was a grade II tear. Maybe I just assumed that from the description.
  23. It's pretty much on schedule. Ligaments take 6-8 weeks to heal enough to begin work with them. They will want to be a little conservative with the thumb UCL as gripping is not functional without it.
  24. Just coming to post this. Thats going to be a tough defense to throw against.
  25. His OPS is well above 800. He is having a good overall season.
