  1. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 12:10 PM) He still is being held in prison. The US has 45 days to charge him with a crime or let him go. The ACLU is going after the whole concept of "preventative detention" since it is dubious legally. Sure, if he's a US citizen, he's entitled to due process and the government is wrong. The terroists being held in Guantanamo, on the other hand, are not. The right to a "speedy trial" doesn't apply to them because... 1. They're not US citizens and aren't entitled to due process 2. They're not part of a recognized army and, therefore, are not protected by the Geneva Convention 3. The government probably has no plans to prosecute them. They're holding them for information and, after they're satisfied, they'll most likely release them. Some may see that as "dubious," but I see it another way: If you don't want to be held indefinitely in a military prison, don't commit terrorist attacks against US soldiers.
  2. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 12:04 PM) Its nice legal pretzel twisting but it also refers to the people in the US who were picked up in "preventative detention" and have not been charged -- like Jose Padilla. 2 years in a cell with no charges filed against him or proof/evidence leveled against him. "Quick and speedy trial" ensured by the Constitution, eh? You can't compare Jose Padilla, a US citizen who was wongly held in prison, to terrorists who are not protected by our Constitution or the Geneva Convention.
  3. QUOTE(CubKilla @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 11:37 AM) Will this stop the ACLU from defending the rights of pro-pedophilic love organizations such as NAMBLA? I'm glad that we have an ACLU, but they've done an absolutely terrible job of picking their battles since 9/11. Unfortunately, they've lowered themselves to the level of opportunist demagogues like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton and most reasonable Americans don't take them seriously anymore. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 11:56 AM) Probably not. I think its funny though that these people are trying to invent rights for people when they don't exist. They dont seem to understand that the only connection that terrorists rounded up in Afghanistan and Iraq have with the United States is that they were caught while engaged in combat with our soldiers. They have no rights under the Constitution and if I'm not mistaken they also have no rights under the Geneva convention since they are not part of any standing army or part of any government. That's true. Terrorists have no right to due process under the Constitution.
  4. QUOTE(mreye @ Mar 2, 2005 -> 07:48 AM) I did hear that he gave $1 Billion to the UN. Talking about throwing money away. :rolly
  5. Thought some of you who grew up in the south suburbs might find this interesting... (Link) This woman was a complete idiot for saying what she did, but has a good point. I went to one of the Rich high schools back in the late '80s/early '90s and saw the quality of the student body deterioriate rapidly over those four years. And it doesn't have anything to do with race, as there was a significant amount of Caucasian trash there as well in my day. It has everything to do with parents in general not disciplining their children... and those bad apples (of all colors) have an adverse affect on EVERYONE in a school setting.
  6. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:39 PM) Or I may just be getting stupid s*** done like writing up a set of discussion questions regarding scenes from Family Guy for an educational psychology class presentation, paying my bills and doing a presentation for a social research method class regarding contraceptive use in Rwanda. You get to use Family Guy for one of your classes? That rocks. I remember using one of the Jerky Boys tapes for a rhetoric class way back in the day. Ah, the good old days... I never get to do anything fun like that anymore.
  7. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 10:22 PM) LMFAO This thread has more bull s*** trash talking then I have seen for a while. BugHurt, you ain't no better then anyone else here. Your nuts will shrink like raisins for a LOT of things, so why pick that fight? Just curious. And no, I don't want an answer. Some things are just silly to pick a fight about is all my point is. I'll give you one anyway. I was just yanking LCR's chain. Even sent him a PM telling him so. He never wrote back, though, so I think he may be mad at me.
  8. Brad Johnson is now a free agent. He wouldn't be a bad choice either.
  9. QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) They're the ones calling themselves gorillas Perhaps they meant "guerillas"?
  10. An attempt at humor shot dead by forgetting to run spellcheck. Doh!
  11. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) Pot. Meet. Kettle. For somebody yakking about the lack of accountability on the internet, somebody's got a real ax to grind here. Come on, I'm just having a little fun yanking your chain.
  12. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:36 PM) He would not assault random people. I don't know. Dude drinks A LOT (knocked down an entire bottle of Henessey at his show in Indy a couple years ago, according to a friend) and his judgement might be poor if LCR catches him at a bad time. OK, I think I'm done baiting you guys now. Have a good night.
  13. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:35 PM) I'm a linguist. Of course I'm a Chomsky fan. Noam Chomsky laid the groundwork for modern linguistic theory, pretty singlehandedly took down the dominant school of behaviorism, furthered the notion of localization of brain function, and is the only living member of top ten most cited people ever. Knocking Chomsky's politics is one thing, but knocking his linguistic theory (where he cut his chops) is another. I know nothing of Chomsky's linguistic aptitude, nor do I care.
  14. QUOTE(flippedoutpunk @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) Whats wrong with Noam Chomsky? Dont tell me your too cool for my boy Choms! :puke
  15. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:32 PM) Yes, I'm sure he'd throw everything that he's created (well moreso his record label which has commercialized and co-opted "hip hop") would let him do that. Keep thinking that. How old are you again? Old enough to admit that I wouldn't dare talk crap to 50 Cent's face. He could whip my ass, too.
  16. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) OMG that was the most brilliant comeback ever! You are obviously cool. An insult from a Noam Chomsky fan. Wow, I'm impressed.
  17. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:31 PM) And to paraphrase Mallrats, I'd have a lot of things to say to him. Yeah, I'll bet you would. You'd start off by telling him that your 10-year-old brother logged onto soxtalk.com using your ID and posted all of that bad-mouthing.
  18. QUOTE(qwerty @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) He says something to him and what is 50 suppose to do? Punch him in the face? If he does that you could sue him for a s*** load of money so fast it wouldn't even be funny. That hasn't stopped 50 from killing people in the past. What's LCR going to tell the police when he's six feet under?
  19. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) And I guess you can be a bully online without have to be accountable for it either.
  20. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:23 PM) Because LCR says whatever he thinks to whomever he pleases.... As long as he does it over the web and can't be held accountable for what he says. Put 50 Cent in his face and I guarantee that his nuts will shrivel up like raisins.
  21. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) I was saying friends for the people that it would be who would beat me up if I did tell him that he was a hack in the first place. Which you wouldn't do anyway because you don't have the balls... Kind of like you making fun of 50 behind his back, huh? If you have a problem with 50, say something to him. I dare you.
  22. QUOTE(flippedoutpunk @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 06:40 PM) we should start a john mayer thread so that we can make fun of the lifestyles of white people, that would be like totally awesome! On behalf of all Caucasians, I excommunicate John Mayer's pussy ass from our race.
  23. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 07:03 PM) And Hurt, if he and his friends punch as well as they shoot each other, then I don't think I'd have too much to worry about. Uh, I don't think that the person who shot him was one of his "friends." Then again, they're all a bunch of black guys and they look all the same anyway, right? :rolly
  24. QUOTE(flippedoutpunk @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 06:04 PM) i love it when dorky white guys make fun of rap music, that NEVAR gets old I love it even more when dorky white guys make rap music. Those three Jewish guys from Brooklyn did a pretty damn good job.
  25. QUOTE(Yoda @ Mar 1, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) You guys can't get enough of 50? Check out his new album cover... I'd love to see LCR call him an "idiot hack" to his face and witness the collosal ass-kicking that would occur immediately after.
