  1. QUOTE(winodj @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 05:49 PM) That's a hell of a lot harder work than I do or any grad student for that matter. Why shouldn't he get paid 10 dollars an hour? But the average McDonalds worker gets paid far less than that. Assistant Managers make about 8. An hour. I disagree. Having gone through six years of grad school and having worked at a Burger King waaaay back in the day, I can honestly say that the graduate student has the more demanding/stressful job. I suppose that managerial positions at McDonald's should theoretically pay about $10/hour. Then again, not everyone in the fast food industry can be a manager. BTW, $10 an hour is only a little over $19,000/year for a 40-hour week. That's still a pretty difficult salary to live on, especially when you're ineligible for student loans and have to pay Social Security (grad students don't).
  2. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:50 AM) shoot the b****. no trial or anything, just take her out back and shoot her... I'll refrain from using the "b-word" and just say that there's a special place in hell for people like her.
  3. QUOTE(Steff @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) Touche' "TheLastWord35". :rolly Alright, Ms. "Doable" :rolly
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 03:16 PM) Three people ask nicely for someone to stop doing something, and instead of stopping, the person berates the people and dismisses their feelings. I guess that works for some people. :headshake I assume their parents taught them that at home . . . Not done with your fishing trip yet, are you? :rolly
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) Not exactly true. They did it last year in Texas after both parties and a judge in 2002 agreed to keep the old map. Once the GOP gained control, they redictricted Texas, gaining seats and screwing my area terribly. Each district here looks like a fajita plate. 20 miles wide and 200 miles long. Link Here That's interesting. But that was only because they couldn't reach a redistricting agreement after the 2000 census, correct? I will probably be moving to Texas late next month, so this is of some interest to me.
  6. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 02:48 PM) No doubt my parents use to whip the s*** out of me when I was out of line. Now a days you can't touch your kid without someone wanting to call the cops on ya. They wonder why kids are friggin out of control. I remember once when I was about eight or nine, I flipped off my dad. My ass was sore for about a week after that. And I never gave the bird to an authority figure again.
  7. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:16 AM) As for the full time job part. I do believe if a person is going to work a 40 hour job, they deserve to earn a living wage. If someone wants to make less, there is nothing that makes them HAVE to work 40 hours in a week. If you are looking at a 2nd income job, it would fall under that part time category, as I can't see someone working 80 hours in a week. I disagree with this. It would be unreasonable to expect, say, McDonald's to pay someone $20,000/year to flip burgers, even if they work "full time." Most graduate students work 50 hrs/week or more and typically earn about $17,000-$25,000/year (depending on the cost of living where they work).
  8. QUOTE(winodj @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 12:11 PM) Re-Redistricting is rare. They can only do it after a national census. Unfortunately, both parties have conspired to gerrymander their incumbents back into office recently.
  9. QUOTE(Pale Hose Jon @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:32 AM) WAR should always be the last resort, and it clearly was not in this case That's right. The Oil For Food Program and the weapons inspections were incredibly effective.
  10. QUOTE(Pale Hose Jon @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) Sure Sadam was bad, but i mean come on, we can't fight one war based on this premise while ignoring all the other attrocities going on around the world. You're right. We should go to war with ALL of the countries that abuse human rights.
  11. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) No sane person would use "WMD" as a reason for an ivasion either saying they knew where they were (had satellite images and everything tracking the movements) -- and then not be able to find them. OK, then how about Saddam's rap sheet of human rights violations, his repeated violations of UN resolutions, etc.? Sticking up for Saddam, eh? Boy, you really have gone off the deep end!
  12. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:12 AM) But, I've noticed that you always have to force your opinions. That's cool and all, but sometimes it's better to just walk away. Is that one of those times? I don't know, that's your call to make, depending on your "b****-o-meter" scale. Actually, it's because it's a slow day.
  13. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 11:01 AM) Personal choice. There are several words that women find offensive, and should, IMHO, be avoided, especially when someone complains. Does it tell you something when one of the people who voiced up can joke about hot lesbian sex, but finds that word offensive? You may call it hypocritical, I accept it for what it is. An individuals preference to not read a particularly offensive word that is only used to insult females and describe a female dog. Because there are so few things here that people complain about, it would seem easy enough to avoid the one or two. But hey, it's your choice. And I choose to not submit to the idiotic political correctness going on here. There are many things that people here can complain about, lesbian sex being among them. What if I were to complain about lesbian sex "offending" me? Hey, homosexuality is against my religion after all! Oh, but wait, political correctness only works in favor of women and minorities. How silly of me to forget. :rolly As long as personal attacks aren't involved (which they weren't), there shouldn't be a problem.
  14. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:47 AM) Actually the historical record shows that the 1991 Gulf War was started by Kuwaiti companies slant drilling into Iraqi oil fields and depressing the price of oil by overproducing over the OPEC quotas. This made it impossible to get out from the Iraq-Iran war debt. Not saying it justifies the invasion -- but there was a reason he did what he did. http://www.prwatch.org/books/tsigfy10.html Yeah, and that reason was that Saddam was broke because of the war with Iran. No sane person would use "slant drilling on our land" as a reason for invasion.
  15. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:33 AM) So is it more mature and polite to dismiss their concerns or call them whiney? You decide. I would rather be a gentleman and find another way to describe a woman who I disagree with. I only dismissed one person's concern after said person questioned my maturity. FWIW, the allowance of cussing and the availability of offensive emoticons on this site take away from the "gentlemanly" character that you speak of projecting. In such an environment, I'm rather surprised that the use of the word "b****" caused such an uproar. In fact, one might even call that hypocritical. Just my $0.02.
  16. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 10:02 AM) I'm sorry, did you say something? Seriously, the ignore function helps both people. I have 4 or 5 people on my ignore list and I am certain there are many more that wish I also ignored them Agreed. At the very least, using the "ignore" function is a hell of a lot more mature than whining about somebody calling a political figure a "b****."
  17. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:29 AM) Wow. Just wow. Now Saddam has a reason to do what he did? Dude. Just stop, please. You're killing me. That's what happens when you get your news from the CBC and cartoons.
  18. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) Wasn't Saddam provoked by Kuwait when they started drilling in Iraqi territory oil? A la that Simpsons episode where Mr.Burns drills on a slant? Saddam was "provoked" by a combination of all the money he squandered on his idiotic war with Iran and his oil-rich, defenseless neighbor.
  19. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) No it was pretty much the attempted murder rap that got my panties in a bunch. Uh, oh! The left-wing feminists are going to be pissed.
  20. QUOTE(winodj @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:12 AM) Damn straight! BTW, what's the deal with your Bea Arthur thing? Are you related to her or something? Just curious...
  21. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 09:05 AM) I would contend he is the best VP we have had in a long time. No, Bea Arthur would be a much more effective VP.
  22. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 08:55 AM) what would it be saying about the abilities of a CEO if he was completely unable to look into KBR's financial doings and not see something wasa amiss? It would say that he's probably a better Vice President than a CEO.
  23. QUOTE(Controlled Chaos @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) Her boyfriend is a f***in jagoff!!!!!!!! Honestly though...I can give a f*** about him. She was the one over there, she is the one our soldiers would have risked their lives and possibly died to save, and she is the one that demeaned them by saying she can't rule out they were trying to assasinate her. That's what infuriated me the most...not the boyfriends comments. Hell, there are millions of men and women that hate the US and slander this country all the time...I have appropriate names for all of them, but in this case I was focusing on her, since she was the one involved. No, you're a sexist pig. And a racist as well.
  24. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 08:37 AM) I agree 100%. Apologies for not explaining my point clearly in the first place.
  25. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Mar 9, 2005 -> 08:34 AM) Hm, worthless piece of crap vs. b****. There's just something a lot more biting, personal, and insulting about b****. You have chosen to ignore ChiSoxyGirl. View this post · Un-ignore ChiSoxyGirl
