  1. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:50 PM) Some GOP members crossed over, was it to take a swipe at Bush, or was it to protect our wilderness? Environmentalists have been protesting any attempts to open that area up for drilling. Clinton was pro-Environment and this wasn't an issue, it was never brought up for a vote. It wasn't until the GOP had a majority, that they reintroduced legislation to open this area up for drilling. People are protesting this particular bill. Isn't that the time to protest? When a vote is being made? Most environmentalists also happen to be Dems. A Dem wouldn't propose this bill. It is unfair to say that this is a attack at Bush. Environmentalists would never, under any administration, support this measure. Fair enough. We'll agree to disagree.
  2. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:44 PM) No its the simply fact of a minimal gain of oil at the expense of a wildlife refuge and the money being spent to get it rather than a swipe at Bush. IIRC, the money is being spent by private businesses, no? And those businesses will provide jobs Americans in the middle of a slowly-recovering economy, no? Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. This reeks of anti-Bush partisanship, IMO.
  3. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) Nuclear power plants can only HELP Zion. I'd much rather see oil pumps surrounding my home than a nuclear facility anywhere near it.
  4. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:31 PM) Did we start offshore drilling in the past 5 years? Duh. Are you suggesting people should protest something that has been going on for years and years? This is new drilling. This is allowing something that has been banned before. This is a new decision. What a stupid f***ing argument you are making. Right f***ing back at you. Let's show some class, eh? :rolly Why shouldn't people protest offshore oil drilling? Can they not petition Congress to ban it? Conservatives are still protesting Roe v. Wade, 30-some years after the court decision. But liberals won't protest offshore oil drilling because they're more concerned about taking a swipe at Bush than anything else. That seems obvious to me.
  5. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) There were plenty of protests, and they lost. Just like there were protests against building a nuclear reactor in Zion, Il. And each time, eventually, America's overwhelming desire for batteries for our toys has won out. We are the biggest consumers of resources on the planet. I believe we have a sacred moral obligation to protect our planet for fish, fowl, and animal for ourselves and future generations. Then we'd better stop drilling for oil everywhere. But the sad fact is that we're going to have to damage the environment to a certain extent to obtain fossil or nuclear fuel.
  6. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:19 PM) Okay, but that doesn't make this any less selfish. It makes it more of a partisan issue than an environmental issue.
  7. QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) WILDLIFE REFUGE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE This is a selfish act. An oil spill in a wildlife refuge would be much less environmentally-damaging than one in the Gulf of Mexico, no? So, why are the Dems not speaking out against that? Oh, right, offshore drilling didn't occur under Bush's watch. :rolly
  8. So, if drilling in the middle of nowhere in Alaska is so bad, why is nobody protesting our drilling in the Gulf?
  9. QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 01:17 PM) Uhm, it's a novel. Agreed. I'm Presbyterian, but my wife is Catholic and we attend a Catholic church. Our priest rambled on and on about this during one of his sermons. It's a freaking nonfiction book, people. Get over it.
  10. QUOTE(BridgeportHeather @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 05:38 PM) This immediately makes Silvio Berlusconi a million times smarter than George Bush. There's no reason for him to be spending all of our resources on what's going on in Iraq...Now look at our gas prices skyrocket...I'm getting pissed! That's not the reason that our gas prices are rising, but you can believe that if you want to. FWIW, I'd like to see the U.S. begin to pull its forces out of Iraq at the end of the year. Hopefully the Iraqi troops will be properly trained by then.
  11. QUOTE(BridgeportHeather @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 05:36 PM) Nothing really...I love EVERYTHING that is Chicago (well, except for the ugly urinal on the north side). Even the traffic?
  12. I'd have to go with Navy Pier. It's nice that they decided to use it for something back in the early '90s but, unless you really like ferris wheels, it's just a crowded tourist trap. When I entertain friends in the city, I like to take them up to 96th floor of the Hancock building for drinks at dusk. The view is spectacular.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 02:30 PM) From what I understand, wait until you get your property tax bill. That's OK. I rent.
  14. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 12:40 PM) that's why we don't have a state income tax I'm moving to Texas next month and my bank account is definitely looking forward to it.
  15. QUOTE(winodj @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 12:33 PM) Yes, because red state projects never get screwed up. And how many of those jumped $12 billion (562%) from their original budget? Sounds like corrupt unions and organized crime made a pretty nifty profit.
  16. This is what happens when Ted Kennedy and John Kerry are in control of spending your tax revenue. $14.6 BILLION for an unsafe highway system. Link
  17. QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 10:26 AM) Brosnan was not "A" list, but was well known and an obvious choice as Bond. They were courting Pierce to be the next Bond as early as the mid-80s, but NBC wouldn't let him out of his exclusive contract with them. Pierce was the obvious choice to succeed Roger Moore. They're not pursuing any one person as agressively now.
  18. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 08:59 AM) I nominate Rowan Atkinson. LOL! Have you seen Johnny English? Good flick.
  19. QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 07:36 AM) True, niether is a A-list star, but if you recall neither was Pierce Bronsan when he took over the role in 1995. He was most famous for Remington Steele from the mid-80s ansd his jobs before "Goldeneye" were mostly bad TV movies and "Lawnmower Man" Only time will tell regarding McMahon or Craig, but Pierce was absolutely perfect for the role of Bond (almost as good as Connery, IMO). He'll be very difficult to replace.
  20. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) And how's this for cynical? Nothing is gonna get done about it so they can keep it a campaign issue. Democrat leadership isn't gonna chance insulting the powerful Latino block vote & the Republicans won't risk losing their next big campaign issue to smack Democrats with like they do with abortion. Even when they have all the power, they're not going to do anything to drastically change these issues simply, and sadly, because they are political tools. Agreed. And the Dems aren't the only ones afraid to anger the Latinos. The Bush administration is also ignoring this problem simply to retain their loyalty. It's pure stupidity.
  21. QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 08:39 PM) OMG NO WAY!!!!!!!! That's the most exciting part of my day!!!!! OK, now that's kind of sad. :puke
  22. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 14, 2005 -> 01:27 PM) Why not? We had Chinese spies stealing our secrets in New Mexico during the last administration. Nothing has changed. Our nuclear system is a joke, and just begging for a terrorist attack. Hell, our whole border security is a joke. I wonder how many al Qaeda members have snuck across the Mexican border already. I guess we'll find out after they detonate a nuclear device in the middle of downtown LA.
  23. I've heard very positive things about Southwest but I've never been west of Dallas, so I've never flown them before. Calling customer service at the airline and asking if they can give you a better price than what's available online sometimes works as well. My wife has done this a couple times with US Air over the past few years and has often gotten $10-$20 off per ticket.
  24. Hopefully, he's found guilty of this so that they can outright fire him instead of "buying him out" to avoid fighting the ACLU in court. What's really interesting about Churchill is that he's a fully-tenred professor, but doesn't even have a Ph.D.! And if that wasn't bad enough, he was the also the Department Head up until January. How the hell does a person without a freaking Ph.D. not only become a full professor, but also head a department at a Big 12 school? Did he have incriminating photos of someone?
  25. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Mar 13, 2005 -> 10:30 PM) Another day, another left-wing, anti-American moron. :sleep Ditto
