According to published reports, it all up to Amy Pascal.

She is the co-head of Sony Pictures and she is going to choose between two men to wear the famous tux and drink the martini in "Casino Royale" in 2006.

Julian McMahon - star of Nip/Tuck and the upcoming Fantastic 4 movie

Daniel Craig - co-star in Tomb Raider and Road to Perdition

Let's see what you think.

Me? Julian will continue the type of Bond we had with Bronson, it seems.

They are similar in style and humor. Distinguished, dark-side and charming.

Daniel will be a bad-ass Bond, akin to Timothy Dalton. Very much like Ian Fleming created.

I don't know, right now.

I don't know either one, but anyone who reminds you of Dalton doesn't sound very good.

I like Julian in Nip/Tuck, he's got that sense of humor and the suave look down. I haven't seen much of Craig but I don't think another Timothy Dalton is what I want.

What I exactly meant was that his Bond would be darker, like Dalton's Bond. I wasn't comparing the actors.

But I am going to choose Julian. He's got that suave thing down, but he's got the eyes of a killer too. That's Bond.

What about Hugh Jackman, I was hearing rumors of him earlier.

McMahon always seems to play the bad guy, Bond is always the winner, not the bad guy.

So, by default, I guess I would take Daniel Craig.

Though, neither actor has enough star power to draw fans into the theater for a dying franchise like the Bond movies, IMO.

Never heard of the second guy, so I'm going with McMahon.

I was hoping John Kruk would get it.

Dying Franchise?

Film Title International Profit Domestic Worldwide

Goldeneye 244.8 106.5 351.3

Tomorrow Never Dies 218.0 125.2 343.2

The World is not Enough 225.1 126.9 352.0

Die Another Day 253.7 160.9 414.6

Seems like a pretty solid amount of people still enjoy and pay money to see movies from this "Dying franchise". As a point of reference here are the profits of a few more recent movies.

The Incredibles 367.3 260.1 627.4

Meet the Fockers 201.3 275.9 477.2

Ocean's Twelve 234.1 125.4 359.5

The Aviator 83.5 97.0 180.5

Million Dollar Baby 26.0 76.6 102.6

True, niether is a A-list star, but if you recall neither was Pierce Bronsan when he took over the role in 1995.

He was most famous for Remington Steele from the mid-80s ansd his jobs before "Goldeneye" were mostly bad TV movies and "Lawnmower Man"

He was rumored, but his price is too high. Plus he has X-Men 3 and the Wolverine movies in the pipe

Yes, but he has been stalling the whole production.

I know he was complaing about being labeled a "type-cast" after three X-Men films. As a die hard X-Men fan, I hope he just takes his money and plays Logan in the third film.

Bad news: They haven't even begun the production of the third film yet. At least, this was true of the last update I received.

I  Phoenix. I can't wait. I'm getting stir-crazy.

They finally hired a director. Matthew Vaughn, director of the very good film "Layer Cake"

Ironically, he was a finalist to direct the next Bond film. But he truned it down, obviously he knew he being offered X3.

Who was the English actor in 'Closer' who played Julia Robert's husband?

I'd pick him. Can someone post his pic?

Only time will tell regarding McMahon or Craig, but Pierce was absolutely perfect for the role of Bond (almost as good as Connery, IMO). He'll be very difficult to replace.

I nominate Rowan Atkinson.

LOL! Have you seen Johnny English? Good flick.

He also played one of the assassins in "Bourne Identity"

His name is Clive Owen

I'm surprised nobody saw Road To Perdition here, especially with a thread going on right now about favorite local films. But that Daniel Craig guy would be downright nasty as Bond.

I am also a bit surprised at the lack of love for Dalton. IMO he was the second best Bond so far, second to Connery. But I also don't rate Brosnan that high. I would take him over Moore, but Moore still gets viewed for out of nostalgia. But that last Brosnan film was easily one of the worst Bond films ever. Terrible stuff, absolutley terrible. The two Daltons are two of the best Bonds though, IMO.

I am not familiar with the first guy mentioned though. TV series guy, never watch TV shows. So by default I go with Daniel, but I can't see him as Bond really.

I liked Dalton a lot, also.

License to Kill is easily one the BEST Bond films of all time.

Living Daylights was OK, but that was a generic script with no character because they didn't know who would be playing Bond at the time they wrote it.

As I said before, Dalton came the closest to protraying the Bond depicted in the original novels.

Fleming is gone, Broccoli is passed on, the actor who played "Q" is gone as well. There are many, many other options in the action genre to choose form today than there were 40 years ago.

Brosnan was not "A" list, but was well known and an obvious choice as Bond.

Jackman would be the best choice, IMO for the franchise.

They were courting Pierce to be the next Bond as early as the mid-80s, but NBC wouldn't let him out of his exclusive contract with them. Pierce was the obvious choice to succeed Roger Moore. They're not pursuing any one person as agressively now.
