QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 05:50 AM) If people complained about Paul Konerko, what about Alfonso Soriano, his .318 OBP, .230/.270/.382 away from Texas, and 74/18 K/BB ratio? But Soriano rocks. He's the answer to all of our problems. :rolly

QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 02:08 AM) Wake up NOW!!!! Nice!

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 04:38 AM) What would you offer for a pitcher that is bound to go on the DL at least twice a season and isn't clubhouse friendly? Kerry Wood?

QUOTE(Ishmookie @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) either way i dont want to play any of the teams that are left if the twins win the wild card, then its down to red sox/angels neither of those teams excite me I get it now. You want to play the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS, followe by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in the ALCS ... to get to a World Series matchup against the mighty Colorado Rockies.

I just checked the standings. You know what people? You're not going to believe this. The Chicago White Sox are in first place with a double digit lead. Their record is 63-33. That is 63 victories and only 33 losses. Maybe some of you folks are confused on that point. From reading some of these totally ridiculous panic induced threads, I'd say there a quite a few of you that are.

I am of this opinion on Paul Konerko. He is an important member of the team with the best record in baseball, and I am inclined to believe he will remain so. b**** and moan if you feel the need, but you will not change a damn thing by doing so.

QUOTE(Soxfest @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) - Is confident that with the current team they can go all the way KW excuses are getting so old it was attendance first , now it is the chemistry s***. Excuses? Excuses for what, not making a deal? Since when has KW been the type of GM to sit on his hands and not make a deal he thought could help this club? He's made several big trades, and then has made the small ones that don't seem like much at the time but turn out to be important. Example, Marte. Just to say he should make a trade, and to get pissed because it hasn't happened yet is idiotic. Making trades is not nearly as easy as some around here seem to think. Some of the trades proposed on this board are laughable. If and when KW does swing a deal, you can bet half the people around here are going to pissed. Either we will have paid too much, or the player traded was on one of their favorites or the player received is not who they wanted and someone else would have been better.

I'm gonna try my luck to get us a win. This game is big for us, and we have Contreras going, so it's not exactly a sure thing. Let's Go Sox. Need to salvage a split.

QUOTE(RibbieRubarb @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 02:07 PM) Some people do not deserve this team. This is the most insightful and telling sentence I've seen in PHT in ages.

QUOTE(Iguana @ Jul 24, 2005 -> 12:25 AM) My vote for dumbest thread of the year. Considering he's trying to make a point about all the other dumb threads that pop up here saying 'Fillintheblank' must go .... it's actually not.

Konerko doesn't suck as much much as this thread does. :headshake

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:08 AM) For Friday... IIRC right behind the Yanks dugout. Same section our seasons are in but 1st row behind the dugout. I think I'm in section 147 on that day.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:05 AM) That's the day Jim's doing BP so we'll be there. I'm sure we'll work it out. Where are your seats?

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 06:03 AM) I got them.. gave Mike his already, and I have the ones for you, Jason, and Mario sitting right here.. just too lazy to mail them. Can I just give them to you on the 19th..? That would be cool, assuming we actually cross paths on the 19th.

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:02 AM) A penny found is 1 more than you had earlier so pick that s*** up! It's free money! But be quick about it. He who hesitates is lost.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 03:01 PM) Usually...you can tell a players value by who they were traded for. And yes, Garland was picked higher, but so was Bobby Seay and thousands of others that never sniffed the big show. The Cubs had given up on Garland, the Sox stole him. Garland had only been drafted the previous year. The Cubs hardly gave up on him. Karchner had some decent numbers when we traded him, they were just crappy after the trade. The Cubs were pretty desperate for bullpen help at the time they made that deal.

QUOTE(JoshPR @ Jul 23, 2005 -> 12:43 AM) That trade would Suck That's three decent ballplayers. I don't see why it would suck.

QUOTE(Yossarian @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) After 88 years of pain and suffering you can't blame some fans for being doubting Thomases including yours truly. I'm unhappy on a number of things lately. Thank heavens for the Cleveland series. Every time this year the Sox looked like they were going into a deep funk, they've gone on another tear. It's time to do it again. The upcoming schedule has no mercy. Deep funk? When? They've never lost more than 3 consecutive games. That's a speed dump, not a deep funk.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 06:28 PM) This statement implies that Williams gets no credit, sorry, you can't pull that crap over on me. I have been watching the game, and this franchise in particular, for longer than you've been on the planet. It's total and complete naivety to suggest Ozzie is the one and only factor in changing this team's roster. I hope you're not suggesting that, and calling it a fact. If you are ... it's just one more wrong assumption from you, in a string of many. Yes, I agree. That was a very transparent slap at KW. He's forgetting, of course, who hired Ozzie in addition to the fact that KW acquired all these new players that are making things click.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 22, 2005 -> 01:56 PM) One thing that I am starting to pick up with Ozzie as a manager is that his focus is totally different than any manager I have ever seen. He is a macro-manager vs everyone else in the league who is basically a micro-manager. When Ozzie manages he always has something else in mind whenever he makes a move. When he brings in a relief pitcher, it seems like not only is he trying to match up for an AB, he also is trying to learn something about a pitcher. Like earlier in the season when he started using Neal Cotts in the 7th/8th innings when he never had before. Ozzie was testing Neal to see if he could depend on him. You would have never seen 95% of managers do something like this until they had to. Its the same with the 3rd game line ups. We all look at the one game and scream about how can you put those guys in the game? By doing this Ozzie is seeing who responds to certian games and situations, so that he knows who he can use and when. He also knows that come September and October, his guys are going to have their legs underneath them when they really need them. Ozzie isn't about the moment as a manager, he is about the post-season and the stretch run. All of his managing points like the regular season is one big spring training for the post season. The macro-management looks completely different to us, because we are so used to seeing managers caught in the moment. It is different to look a particular play in the context of a whole 162 games, but that is what is going on here. I've been singing this tune for about a month, now. Usually saying things like 'Ozzie hasn't got the luxury to only play for today, he has to keep the long haul in mind'. I've used the Cotts example as well. I'm glad someone has seen the light and climbed on board with me.

Nice first post. Welcome to Soxtalk.

The hell of it is, once they start b****ing and moaning, they all just feed off of each other. There are some that are analytically negative. That is, they have some logic behind there posts, and that's cool. But other just rant for the sake of ranting, and maybe to up their post count, but there is no substance behind their boarishness. Basically, it's just lame.

I want to issue a public thank you to Rowand44 for hooking me up with tickets to the Sox v. Yankees game on August 19th. It's not easy for us out of towners to score decent seats at these high demand games. Now Steff .. where are those August 20th tickets?
