  1. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:20 AM) In our defense, there had been no thunder or lightning up to that point... Plus I was in the field with a leather glove I believe you. I know of a kid in the Dallas area that was struck and killed at football practice. It was literally a bolt from the blue. Their was no sign of any previous T&L according to all on the scene.
  2. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 09:18 AM) Ok so tomorrow (well no it's really later today), I go schmoozing with HR executives from Accounting and Finance Companies from around here. Luckily there's a huge demand for accountants at the moment (glad I didn't choose Information Technology after all), but still I need to get some vacation work this summer, and hopefully this is the start of me putting my foot in the door. Good luck to you.
  3. QUOTE(Texsox @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 06:58 AM) Fox isn't conservative, It's fair and balanced It's also stomping the hell out of their direct competition.
  4. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:14 AM) I almost got hit by lightning while playing softball last night. The electricity flowed through the air, and the air turned a pinkish-yellow hue, and then the lighthing hit withing a couple of hundred feet of us. Needless to say the game was over at that point. Running around in an open field swinging metal bats during a lightening storm is not the smartest way to spend an evening. :rolly
  5. Remember .... this the no-waiver deadline. This speculation can continue for weeks and weeks. Now didn't that make your day?
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 08:31 AM) I still think its brinksmanship. When you have lots of interest you play one off another. When you have little interest you play like you want to keep him. I think AJ will be dealt, I just think the Marlins want to maximise their bounty that they shall receive on the AJ transaction. I agree. Jayson Stark said on Mike & Mike this morning that the Marlins were "calling people like me" to spread the word that they were leaning toward keeping Burnett. You call the media to get the word out about that, and you are angling for a bigger deal.
  7. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:26 AM) Wait, I don't get it. I'm picking on you a bit. Burnett, followed up by a reliever has been discussed here for quite some time.
  8. Here folks is the definition of a "chemistry" problem to be avoided at all costs.
  9. AJ and Tomko are like oil and water.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:57 AM) And of course he's sitting on his ass earning a nice paycheck this year. Good for him. I'm just glad he's not sitting in the Sox bullpen.
  11. QUOTE(UofIChiSox @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 10:45 PM) I definitely hate that tradition too, the only good thing would be pissing off all the people around me who would have loved to get that ball. Sell it. It's a minor league HR ball.

QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 02:31 AM) If Dave Littlefield has proven one thing over the past however many years he has been the GM of the Pirates, it's that he does not make the right moves. One of his lone good moments was the Ritchie trade. And then he redeemed himself for that deal by essentially giving the Sox Marte(given, Seattle had also given up on Marte, but why deal an arm like Marte when you are rebuilding anyways? Just doesn't make sense to me in hindsight) That organization's fascination with McClendon and Littlefield is beyond me. He didn't have an option with Marte. Literally. He had to either trade him or lose him as Marte did not make the club out of spring training and was out of options.
  13. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) Derek Jeter is very underrated. As are Jorge Posada, Randy Johnson, and Carl Pavano. Be sure you say that with a New Yawk accent.
  14. QUOTE(Benchwarmerjim @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 07:43 PM) there were rumors today that the Twins were looking at Alfonso Soriano for some offense Im all for that, even though Im not a big Soriano fan. He is better than Boone. Hell I might be better than Boone but they wont do it because he is arbitration eligible and will demand 10 mill next year and Twightwad Pohlad wont pay for offense (or anybody really) I'd be shocked if the Twins made a deal for Soriano. They might if the thought they'd move him in the offseason. In fact, that's both possible and logical.
  15. QUOTE(Goldmember @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:04 PM) per espn: bos team doc said that cat scans were negative, he never lost consciousness, was aware of surroundings, will be in hospital overnight for observation and reevaluated in the morning... That's good to hear, but considering Hafner is still out after getting hit by Muehrle, Clement may be on the shelf for a while. He got drilled.

    Hafner

Agreed. That was in no way intentional, I'm sure.
  17. QUOTE(mrzo2733 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 01:08 AM) I can see this happening. I was just talking to my buddy about the Sox and Cubs (he's a Cubs fan) and I kind of started thinking that I would not be surprised if we got Burnett and then Kenny followed it up with a trade for a reliever. I bet he already has something in the works for the bullpen if we indeed give up Marte. So I can definitely see two big trades happening very quickly. I'll say it again though- Guardado is my guy. We need him. Kenny, let's get this done. You're right on top of things, aren't ya? :rolly
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:56 AM) How about that Koch blown save on the 4th two years ago. Talk about taking the air out of a team after sweeping your rival. UGH, I hate piling on Koch since he manned up to his inability but those games hurt, a lot. Koch did accept responsibility for his failure, that's true. I respected him for that. But, wow, did he deflate this team.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:20 PM) Shingo had quite a few games where he looked awful. I remember at least one game, against Seattle, where Hermanson had to come in and bail him out. One of the best moves Ozzie has made all year was changing who the closer was, before the big blowout took place against Shingo. Last year, Ozzie stuck with Koch, even when he looked awful closing out games (remember those awful games at Baltimore he barely hung on to). I love to see a manager who's proactive, rather than reactive. Total agreement on this one. Ozzie played it right, and to blame Ozzie's decisions for Shingo's failure is asinine. Rememebr how that one blown Koch save in Oakland affected the team? Why have the same type of thing happen this year? Hell, if Shingo would have blown two more save, we might be 10 games worse off in the standings.
  20. Right at the moment, I'm more concerned about how he'd do against Hardin, Zito, etc.
  21. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:24 PM) Meh, I am not putting any more speculation into these rumors. I will believe nothing until the deal is DONE. Believing a deal will happen before it does is the wrong way to go. Listen to the rumors, disect them, talk about them, but don't believe until the deal goes down.
  22. QUOTE(cragi @ Jul 27, 2005 -> 12:29 AM) I agree. I was saying fans of both teams could think that way. Prior to the deal, (the always cash-conscious) Brewer fans were thinking..'oh great we just signed a big deal to career .250 hitter (Pods) that had one big year and now has sunk back to reality. Also, we have nobody that can knock in runs..now what?' The Lee deal seemed way too good to be true...and I know you have similar reasoning for thinking the opposite. What better than for the fans of both teams that each are happy with the deal. Carlos was a source of frustration for a long time to a lot of fans around here. He's a talented hitter though, and the Brewers' did not hurt themselves in acquiring him. Conversely, Podsednik has been exactly what we hoped he would be and with his addition, and the addition of several key players with money we would have spent on Lee's salary, most Sox fans are well pleased with the deal and the results that show up in the standings.
  23. That's total bulls***. Shingo closed 6 or 7 games after the Cleveland debacle, which was his worst appearance. It was a gradual change by Ozzie as Shingo continually failed to the job.
  24. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 11:02 PM) This is why none of us are gm's, the tendency to overreact to one game. I'd love to have Overbay and I'm sure Kenny's looking but he's not going to go nuts now because of tonight. My response is based on an observation I made durin the 2000 season that has not been addressed as of yet.
  25. QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 10:57 PM) I don't think that Overbay is the right answer for the rest of this season however (I love the idea in the offseason). Our major area where we have hitting woes is in the infield, both off the bench and on the left side. I think the right answer is we need to find a contact hitter (at least a .270 average) that can play at least two out of 2B, SS, and 3B to fill in when someone needs to take a rest. Polanco would have been a nice fit. I'm not sure who else we could get. Vizquel could work, but I'm not buying the fact that he is available. We need a LH hitting RBI producer. Overbay fills the bill.
