QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:23 AM) To each their own.. I just found the argument strange. Perhaps I'm out of line here, but this thing seems to be spinning out of control to me.

QUOTE(Ozzie Montana @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:22 AM) Julio Lugo is a great player. .290 avg. / 3 HR / 36 rbi/ 27 SB. Some good stats. I think KW sould be concerned with his defense though. Like someone said earlier he has like 15 errors. Do you remember all the b****ing and moaning about Valentin's defense? Thisa guy would be known as JulioE6 in no time.

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) She is two faced She's talking out of both sides of her mouth.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:17 AM) OM... If he has an issue why don't you let him speak for himself.. .? People have been jumping in from both sides of this spat. Perhaps both parties should take it to IM's and let this die on the board.

QUOTE(rangercal @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) Never mind 17 errors :puke He is a good fantasy player for me though ... which should not be taken into consideration when you are talking about real baseball.

QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:58 AM) No, you are not the only one that thinks that way - I am taking it one day at a time. That's the best way to enjoy a magical season ... if that's what this turns out to be.

I can't think of a better time to use this .... :fthecubs

Ya, I read this bulls*** column. Didn't give it a second thought.

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) Yes, totally agree. Call it a gut feeling, I see how he is with guys on base, he gets out of his rhythm fairly easily. Granted if he comes in at the top of the 9th, there's no one on. Based on history, I'm not convinced he's at his best in high pressure situations, he does not appear to have the bulldog mentality. Hermanson has that but he's got nowhere near the raw talent of Contreras. I guess that's why soft tossers like Doug Jones and Rod Beck were good closers in their day ... a lot of it is between the ears. Can't argue that point. I've felt that it was a simple matter of he's not able to pitch as effectively from the stretch.
-
I think, because we are such great fans, the Sox should treat us to a game in the scout seats. :rolly

QUOTE(JimH @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 08:40 AM) Contreras has the stuff but I don't think he has the mindset. He's not one to attack hitters consistently, and a closer has to do that. Combination of great stuff and confident/aggressive mentality = good closer. Jose has 1/2 of that equation. While I agree with you, it might be a case of Jose not being able to maintain the focus over an extended period of time ... like say, seven innings. If he can focus for one or two innings, he might be awesome.

Livan Hernandez "99.9% sure" he will pitch no more
YASNY replied to RibbieRubarb's topic in The Diamond Club
I was asking for a Livan to the Sox trade about this time last year. -
All-Time Greats in Baseball History..
YASNY replied to MurcieOne's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Yes, I'd have to add Satchel Paige to my list. -
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 05:43 PM) There's actually a reason for this. According to Orrin Hatch's own biography, when Clinton was trying to pick his first nominee, he had other people in mind other than Ginsburg. Clinton then went to Hatch and asked him how he felt about the person Clinton was considering. Hatch responded that the name Clinton had would provoke a major fight, and countered by asking if Clinton had looked at either Ruth Bader Ginsburg or Stephen Breyer. Breyer became Clinton's second nominee. That's the story from Hatch's own autobiography. That doesn't change a thing. Her political ideology was not an issue. She, in fact, dodged 36 questions about her ideology and Joseph Biden said that she wouldn't be forced to answer those questions. Seems the Dems want to have their cake and eat it, too.

I wonder if all those throws he made back to Satchel Paige counted in his pitch count.

Despite being in first, White Sox just cannot win
YASNY replied to IlliniKrush's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If you ask Ozzie ANY question, you can count on a smile (maybe) and a curse (certainly). -
QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:36 PM) Hey, the Nationals just designated Wil Cordero for assignment. How's that for an ex-Sox name? Now, let's just keep him an ex-Sox. That sounds like a helluva plan.

QUOTE(KevHead0881 @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 03:58 PM) Didn't see this posted, but it basically sums up my feelings on the AJ Burnett situation. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/writ...hers/index.html Go back in time exactly one year. Replace the name AJ Burnett with Kris Benson.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 03:28 AM) This might sound dumb but this kind of is like how the Iguchi negotiations went. Looks like we're going to get him, kenny has a strict stance then it looks like it's dead, all the sudden the player(team in this case) get desperate and poof a deal happens, wouldn't surprise me one bit if Kenny manages to get AJ for less then expected, who knows. If I'm in Kenny's place, I have two things in mind, what I'd like to trade for Burnett and what the max is that will trade for Burnett. If things work out to where we can get Burnett somewhere between those two points, he'll pull the trigger.
-
I think KW will keep exploring possibilities. However, when he made that remark about not foreseeing any big deals, he also said that he didn't want to rape the big club to do so and that is what was being asked for. The market changes as the deadline approaches, so he'll keep an ear open and see what happens.

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Jul 20, 2005 -> 05:12 PM) There is a difference between over all changing of players, and using the bullpen in each and every game. But Ozzie did not mismanage the bullpen today. (Hope you can see the sarcasm) SB Granted, Ozzie makes decisions within the frame of a game that I find questionable. Yet, he does not have the luxury of managing just for today. He has to take chances and give guys to opportunity to succeed, or fail, to what they can and can't do. He has to find the right niche for them. To find the right niche, he has to hit a few wrong niches as well. It's all about the big picture. Ozzie has done a masterful job with the pen this year.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 02:28 AM) Dude, you are Crazy. You have no clue what you are talking about. Rowand at his current level is a steal for anything less than $5M a year on the FA market Absolutely. This ain't Timo we are talking about.

QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jul 21, 2005 -> 01:35 AM) That contract, in terms of yearly money, doesn't totally scare me off...but that sucker is backloaded with some serious change through the year 2025....20 MORE f***ING YEARS. That contract is quite simply, a financial nightmare. Acquiring Griffey is definately the definition of putting it all on the line to win it all this year. Putting 20 years on the line. Or, at least, having that contract impact our payroll for 20 years. That's just crazy.
