    Cinco De Mayo

    I actually pointed out to my coworkers at the appropriate time that it was 05:05:05 05/05/05.
  4. QUOTE(Y2HH @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) I was at the game last night. We won. I don't care if there are 5 people or 35,000 people in the stands. I don't decide weather to love a team based on their popularity with the casual fan that doesn't even know what teams are playing. The less fans the easier it is for me to get: Beer. Churros. Hot Dogs. Corn w/lime, butter, salt, red pepper, butter, mayo, etc. Steak Pitas. ...and bathroom breaks without waiting in line. You left one thing off of your list ..... Frostbite!
  5. QUOTE(retro1983hat @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:07 AM) These are the Yankees. They will not be this bad all year. They always go on a run. I wish we were catching them now instead of later in the year. I disagree. Their pitching is for s***. They are old and slow. Jeter, ARod and Matsui ... maybe Sheffield, we'll have to see about him .... are all they really have.
  6. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:06 AM) Yep, the Twins have been doing it for, what 4 years and suddenly it's 'ugly' cuz it's the Sox? PPfft. Let them call it ugly. We'll laugh all the way to late October.
  7. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:04 AM) Don't worry, some f***head owners will make stupid trades with them and help them out. That's exactly what I was hinting at in post number 4 of this thread.
  8. QUOTE(Steff @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) Winning Hideous!!! Maybe, but the key word is Winning!
  9. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) I would like to see A Rod on the Sox but the Boss would have to pick up an insane amount of that contract... so it would never happen... It might, if he decides to listen to his people. Steinbrenner's decisions are the cause of the current state of the Yankees. Of course, ARod and the money to make him affordable would rape our farm system.
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ May 5, 2005 -> 09:00 AM) He didn't get the explination... Touche'
  11. Enjoy it while it lasts. Baseball thinks it's important that Yankees are one of the premier teams. It's been going on for decades. They won't be down long. I said 5 years in another thread, but thats at the outside, imho.
  12. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) Unless King George plans on going to $250 million-$300 million a year, they are stuck with what they have for a while. They have some long and bad deals on the books. They danced. Now they have to pay the band.
  13. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2005 -> 07:53 AM) It didn't... It was posted it was stolen a while back. They just now got arrested. I heard about this arrest days ago. I guess I should have posted it, but these things are usually posted by the time I get online.
  14. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2005 -> 08:15 AM) Ask any older Sox fan about 1994 and they will tell you that it was going to be the year they made it to the World Series. They were in first place, and were right there for the best record in baseball all year long. They also were coming off of a division championship in 1993, which we are not in 2004. There are plenty of reasons that 1994 attendance was so big. Exactly. The team was proven based on 1993. The Sox were very good in '94. The expectations were as high as they had been since, sigh, 1984.
  15. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2005 -> 08:05 AM) Oh you there is still plenty for the faithful negatives to cry about... Attendance, Konerko, Cotts... You just have to dig deeper As for me? THE SOX ARE THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL!!!!!! HELL YA!! attendance = tree Konerko = tree Cotts = tree THE SOX ARE THE BEST TEAM IN BASEBALL!!!!!! = forest
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 5, 2005 -> 08:10 AM) I have been thinking the exact samething. People have been saying Garland will be good since we got him, and now that is might be realizing his potential, we are ready to let him walk away for the next great thing? No thanks. Resign Garland if at all possible, and if Brandon is good enough, he will beat someone else out... most likely El Duque. Too many people are overly focused on the minor leaguers. Let the guys in the minors force us to make room for them instead of doing so and seeing what happens.
  17. QUOTE(Capn12 @ May 5, 2005 -> 05:52 AM) Konerko is doing his best to make Franks return back to first base smooth...down to .194 now, and hitless in last 22 ABs.... Frank at first base? I highly doubt that.
  18. QUOTE(The Critic @ May 5, 2005 -> 04:35 AM) Let's play that fun new game show that's sweeping the nation, Contrast And Compare!!! First, let's get in the Wayback Machine for SamME Soso's comments when he was injured and the Cubs were still winning games: "Bulls***, that team needs ME!!!" Now, let's zip back to the present for Frank Thomas' comments about basically the same situation: "When I come back, hopefully I won't disrupt anything. Every team needs a shot in the arm and hopefully I can be that for this team. On a consistent basis, I'm going to get up there and take my hacks." Ahhhhhh......that's NICE...... GET BACK HERE SOON, BIG MAN!!!!!! Speaking of Sosa .... Has anyone recently run across an Cub fans that will admit to ever having been a Sosa fan?
  19. Arson. They were going to burn it down and call the insurance company. At least, that's my gut reaction.
  20. How did it take this tidbit so long to make it to SLaP?
  21. QUOTE(Tmar28 @ May 4, 2005 -> 10:40 PM) somebody explain it to me It's all right here:
  22. The only option I see the Yankees having is to suck for the next 5 years. Till these long term old player contracts expire. They have some players of value that they can trade, but the Yanks will have to eat a lot of money to do so. That might get them back quicker, if they acquire some good propects in these deals. If they suck for a few years, they'll also have better draft choices if King George can lay off the bad free agent signings for a while.
  23. That News about Bull totally sucks.
  24. QUOTE(CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ May 5, 2005 -> 03:21 AM) Seeing the topic title "hitless wonders" made me think of sumthing that I might not have thought of unless I was living in Cali for the past 25 yrs. "Hitless Wonders" and Go-Go Sox" are the two most recognizable nicknames for Sox teams that reached a World Series and now we are playing the same type of ball. Maybe its just White Sox karma that we always need to play this type of baseball to be successful. But if I go back to my Chicago roots I'd say it's only becuz wih our histroy of cheap owners with those types of teams we can only lay out the dough for 1/2 a team . Can't pay for pitching and hitting now can we ? Peace, out dudes. The Go-Go Sox, those Hitless Wonders, are Winning Ugly!
