Neal Focking Cotts
QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 5, 2005 -> 02:04 AM) Never, IMO. Hopefully Cotts will be replaced as soon as possible. He can learn some control in Charlotte. My heart can't take watching Cotts come into a game and issue a leadoff walk every damn outing. That's my point. But I have a newsflash for you. Cotts is on an 11 man pitching staff and he will be used. Get used to the idea.

Neal Focking Cotts
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ May 5, 2005 -> 01:52 AM) Another Neal Cotts apologist. I swear, between last season and this season the kid can do no wrong. Nothing is every his fault. If Ozzie decides to use Cotts for one batter, regardless of his perceived long relief role, his job is to retire the hitter. He failed. Doesn't change my confidence in his abilities, but I understand Ozzie's frustration. Nothing is more irritating than a reliever walking the first batter he faces upon entering the game. Yes. He failed. But stop and think. When was the last time Cotts got into a game? It's been a while. Ozzie's got to pitch him at some point, and do so again to try and get him into a rythem. We don't have many 9 run leads this year. When is a good time for Ozzie to pitch him?

Jon Garland
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 4, 2005 -> 11:52 PM) Of course they can be replaced but before the year started it seemed like garland was replaceable also. My point is the sox weren't going to sign Jon to a long term deal when he's been an average to slighty above average with Brandon ready to go. We've been agonizing for 4 years waiting for Garland to become the pitcher he is today, and now we want to boot him and bring up another young pitcher to replace him, and wait till he learns how to be a bifg league pitcher? That sounds like a helluva plan.

Hats off to Joe Morgan
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 5, 2005 -> 01:03 AM) Sarcasm is a beautiful thing... too bad not enough people can realize when someone is being sarcastic. Agreed. Whether it's an old tired topic or not, the sarcasm in that post was a thing of beauty!

Anybody starting to worry about Konerko?
QUOTE(Princess Dye @ May 5, 2005 -> 12:54 AM) i guess we now have a new way for Everett and Thomas to both be on the field...... and Everett could still DH....... j.k, no fielding for Frank this year. not even in interleague. I've trumpeted that point of view a few times by now. Frank's had two season ending injuries will playing 1B. Tell him to just take a seat and enjoy the interleague game till about the 8th inning.

Closer
QUOTE(Wedge @ May 4, 2005 -> 11:26 AM) As somebody keeps mentioning on the board, using a closer for a closer's sake makes no sense. If you're taking out the starter going into the 8th and you have the heart of the line-up coming up, obviously we should put in our hottest reliever (at present that is Hermanson). Likewise if we're going into the ninth and the batters coming up + the bench are like .330 against righties, but only .178 against lefties, then we should obviously use Marte. "Set-up man", "closer" those are all meaningless monikers that might actually hurt a team's chance to win. I agree with you, but with this caveat. There are pitchers that need to have a defined role or they feel like they are twisting in the wind. The fact that this team does not have that problem tells me that Ozzie and Cooper have sold them on the team mindset, and done a damn good job of it. As Hermanson said, (paraphrasing here) Whether I pitch in the 6th inning or the 9th, I'm the closer because I have close out the inning.

Bad year for the Yankees
The 47,000 promotional Yankee caps for this weekend's games have been stolen in St. Petersberg, FL. How can you black market 47,000 promotional Yankee caps?

Report: Bonds has third surgery on knee
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2005 -> 09:21 AM) Wow, I wonder if that does it for 2005? They are saying two months. I was thinking about the similarities between the Giants and the Sox situations. Hot starts, with unknown return dates for our superstar sluggers.

Hawk to the DL
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 4, 2005 -> 07:49 AM) That actually would be a great move. Rooney does a ton of TV stuff in the off-season and is a natural at it. Then we could move Defalco into the radio booth for a few games. Contractual matters may make that kind of move easier said than done.

Impressed by Iguchi?
QUOTE(qwerty @ May 4, 2005 -> 04:50 AM) I think he will be solid but no where close to what he did last year. I think he will be close, if not have even better overall numbers. We'll see, I guess.
